As someone who has played since day 1, I really appreciate these "summary videos." With so much going on, sometimes it's hard to think back on what all has actually happened since the first day.
Hey! Just wanted to say thanks for everything that you do. It's amazing how much I learn from your videos even though I'm actively playing these things as they happen. You do a great job, and really add alot of depth to the experience for those of us who follow you. Thanks man.
Thank you WP. You've given me the motivation I need to return to Tyria and visit some of my favorite people and places. I look forward to future updates about the news of the world that some of us unfortunately can't visit as often as we'd like.

I love this, please keep these going forward into the future. I really like the GW lore, and would really like to experience these updates and speculate about everything that's going on by myself but the gameplay that GW2 provides me for some reason just doesn't entertain me. There's no specific reason to it, I just don't have any motivation to play the game, and because of that I feel like I'm missing alot of a game that I was hyped about from minute one when it was announced.
Great videos, loved watching them. Heard a lot of good things about gw2 recently so my brother and I are getting back into it and trying to catch up on whats going on. Could you please post a part 3 explaining in a condensed version what has happened since this video to now? The expansion is coming out soon I guess and I would love to get caught up on what I've missed since then. Maybe title a video "Coming Back to Guild Wars 2: The Story So Far." It seems like there is so much I feel lost coming back to the game. I know I'd be really grateful and I'm sure many others would too, or if there is something in writing on the internet that I can read to catch up I'd be glad to if you'd share the link. I love these videos and recap, because even though I am following the story and lore etc, I often miss much of the underlining plot that is going on. I also love speculation and it is nice to get the in game references. Move GW2 lore and general videos WP please :) makes my day.
The more I hear about this rather cool story the sadder I get knowing that I'll never be able to play through it myself. I don't care if A-Net makes certain rewards exclusive to the people that originally play through the event, but please, let me experience the story that you guys have worked so hard to create.
Now, since the mandatory brag is over, just wanted to say that I love these videos; since I'm having a hard time getting back into the GW2 saddle it helps me keep up with the whole thing.
Would be nice if you could make these on a fairly regular basis to sum up the story so far, I'm sure I'm not the only one that likes this content.

Theo Ashford was the counsil member that was assassinated by the Aetherblades. The charr representative WP mentions was called Garrot Ambercowl. He was a cultural representative selected to attend the burning of the effigies.

E could be either Ellen or Evon. That way, no matter who won, the story conveniently melds back on track after a rather insignificant split, just like the personal story line.

There has been the suggestion that Evon Gnashblade might be in cahoots with the Consortium, based on the fact that Consortium merchandise has been sold of the Black Lion TP before. Also, one might question why a Charr would care about a fractal about a human god.
WoodenPotatoes has a video that follows an asuran quest that makes a cameo(via his journal) in GW2. This quest heavily suggests that the gods and the dragons are connected. It also states that every races religion is one and the same.
I don't think it was ever said that the Aetherblades are getting their funding from the Inquest, but rather the Inquest and a band of pirates teamed up to form the Aetherblades and the funding remains a mystery. I think it might be the Consortium funding the Aetherblades behind the shadows, getting back at the Council/Kiel for destroying their contracts.
I think you're right. My problem always was that I joined the story for one day, do some stuff, come back two days later, and find out it has all moved on and my progress was in vain. I know everyone has their pace, but Anet is pushing out tons of content that is only present for a few days.
Right now it only hurts the slacker kind of players like me, but in the future, it may cause serious harm on their budget to spend so many hours of work on something that will just go to waste.
Abaddon's lore was covered pretty well in Nightfall so just replay that. Or I could sum it up for you. Abaddon gave magic to humans which caused war his fellow gods took magic away he and his followers got mad and went to war. He lost was thrown into the realm of torment in a disembodied form and plotted revenge. His revenge led to the events of the entire original game and the second expansion ultimately leading to a final confrontation in Nightfall where Kormir replaced him. The end
E could be Ellen Kiel as well, as an investigator of the lionguard she probably had previous dealings with the Aetherblades. They were pirates after all this is just the first time we players heard of them but probably not the first for the npcs.

Yes! I knew that I'm not the only who thinks that Kiel is quite fishy character. I hope that hypothesis will be true. It would be a really great plot twist in lore!
4 teams work on this content, but the other half of the company works on longterm fixes/upgrades and expansions (amongst other things). While I do get your point, this simply is Anet's policy, to provide a steady stream of free, quality content to keep players interest, instead of binding them with a subscription fee to keep playing till the expansion. Im sure gemstore gives em the recources they need , otherwise they wouldnt have chosen this business model in the first place.

Actually I'd be quite chuffed if it was Evon and he'd been quietly looking out for the greater interests of Lion's Arch all along. It would, I think, be a nice twist.
I'd say the biggest shoehorns right now are Faron and Kasmeer, especially for that thing with the Dead End bar.
IDK if it's just me coming from a background of WoW instead of GW, but Rox reminds me of this person named Jljarrar on youtube. She did wow parodies about pvping and stuff and played as a hunter with a pet sprit cat named Frostbite. Rox is a ranger with a pet who is also named Frostbite (or maybe it's Frosty I think that was it's actual name in game) and is also a Charr a race built on war.

Ellen Kiel won because of what Collin Johanson said on the livestream that there was more to the thaumanova reactor lore and implied that players would also get answers to world defining lore. I'm surprised WP didn't mention it.
As much as I love the idea of Ellen Kiel being the leader of the Aetherblades I wonder if it's too subtle for the current ANet. The opposite seems more likely E is Ellen and Crimson is Evon the candidate whose primary color was red. Ellen is just a pawn of Magnus the Bloody Handed
I've been wondering about the Aetherblades and why they're in every patch no matter how unrelated it seems: what were they doing in Labyrinthine Cliffs? Why are they the main enemies for Queen's Jubilee, and not any of those we have in Kryta since before (bandits, centaurs etc)? I hope there'll be an explanation like that Ellen Kiel theory to wrap it up. Maybe she was an Aetherblade, but left and angered them? Oh and btw, I love that you used the GW prophecies soundtrack for these videos. :D

The story is expanding quite far now
With all these Sylvari villians, I wonder if we'll be going to the Maguuma Wastes to find another Palte Tree. I'd feel more confident about this if it wasn't for the Aetherblades supposedly coming from somewhere to the south. Considering they stole their ships from the Pact, I imagine that means Scavenger's Causeway. Since that area doesn't exist in GW1, I can't really come up with anymore ideas on what or who really created the Aetherblades and for what purpose.
ah thanks, that's nice to know. I haven't looked at the trading post much. but currently I don't want to spend real money and I'm saving my ingame gold for other purposes, so the not-infinite buttons will be sufficient for me.

Might just come out Kiel's been infiltrating the Aether Pirates and didn't want any witnesses left alive. But gets me wondering what reasons Evon had to pursue the access to the historical fall of Abaddon, maybe just him being a Charr and having denounced the human gods?

Well the Ashfords were an important human family I think. It would make sense for Logan to know him.
Didn't even notice anything about the 'E' stuff in the mail, I think I just skipped over them thinking 'eh it's just another 'show me my goal!' message.' Good perspective on Ellen being evil by the way, makes me feel a bit better now that she was voted in.
And history of Tyria teaches us that at one point in time those lands were home to the Charr. How many Charr skeletons do you think those ruins sat on? How much blood of Charr and human was split for those monuments to the Tyrian human gods? The Charr were reclaiming their native homeland from an ancient enemy. Ascalon fell because of its own ignorance in thinking the Charr were defeated. They built pass their wall and it cost them dearly.
Hey thanks sooooo much for this I REALLY enjoyed it. I was a GW1 OG but only started being active on GW2 about 3 months ago so I missed a lot. This put me right up to speed and filled in the holes my guild mates left out. I'm curious, what server you play on?
usually i watch in 720p, but where i am now, the internet is pretty slow so it takes a while to load 480p. But many clips on the youtubez have issues, the 480p option just doesn't appear for me often. Dnno if it's because of the internet here.

It's not like I think the time for these events should be changed because of players like me who aren't playing the game all that often, but at some point, Anet will have to spend less money on the game. Right now, there are a lot of new cosmetics, hundreds of lines of dialogue and code and hours of hard work put into each of these two week events. They don't have trouble with getting money yet, but for the good of the future of GW2, they should start saving up by saving that content for longer.

Personally think Ellen won because people thought voting for Evon was in a way voting for RNG, as it suggests people want to spend real money for chance of items from black lion chests. Interesting theory about Ellen being evil though, like it!
I really think most of the more dedicated players wanted Gnash to win, he's way more interesting, capable and was bringing a fractal for older GW players. The problem is, the dedicated players were a minority, most people were like, OMG CHEAPER WPS GO KIEL (it could even be because she's a human).
Feels bad, I hope the living story doesn't lose much because of it and that Gnashblade is still relevant.

Same here, I wanted that Abaddon fractal. Who cares about reduced waypoint costs? Its only for a month. People just looked at the tree without viewing the forest like they usually do. It's kinda like real life, stupid people elect stupid representatives, now we're FOREVER stuck with a Thumanova Reactor fractal that doesn't sound interesting at all. Probably does fit in better with the Inquest/Aetherblade story they got going though. Still I wanted a fractal related to the GW1 lore. I'm nostalgic

I still have over 200 evon representation buttons and will continue to have his face beside my Character for a while, so everyone knows I wanted Evon to win ;) (my reasons: I love Charr; Evon is the more interesting character; I don't really care about a waypoint cost reduction for 4 weeks; I find the idea of an abbadons fall fractal quite interesting and am not interested in some asuran facility; so far Ellen is a friendly character and all but who needs a boring human when you can have Evon^^)
perhaps E is ellion keil (or however u spell it) and evon ghnasblade is scarlet as his hidden identity (cause no one expects a male to have the name scarlet) the only person who knows this is ellion but evon has something over ellion so that she wont tell people

Ahh okay, I see. I always thought only 1 person died from the ceremony. Would have made more sense if we saw Ashford die and then investigated his death instead of some random charr dying and then Ashford afterwards.. At least I found it confusing to follow so I always assumed only Theo died.
how would a whole new map to explore be different from the stuff theyve released, and how would you be able to explore a map if you arent able to do this content (cause of lack of time I guess?). whats the difference? and how is two weeks fast for something that takes like half a day max to get all achievements? I mean do you even play the game at all then?
Just a thought, but when you talked about "E", I just thought.. Ellen or Evon. Ellen knows a lot of People and has great connections trough Magnus and stuff, but in the letters and talkings and also the short story on the gw2site it sounded like E is a male person and that "he" is a very influential person.. which fits totally to Evon. This whole Ellen is a aetherblade-thingy is also worth discussing.. Really, really interesting. WP is there any possibilty, that people can discuss this with you?

After that i travelled to Lions Arch and talked to Ellen who said that she never thought about politics much and wasnt interested in it at all, which made me really mad.

the chapters seem to be monthly, divided in two parts. so maybe you're better off waiting until the end of the month to cover the jubilee.
I'd just like to stand up as one of those people who is deeply interested in the GW2 story and who voted for Ellen specifically because she had promised to research the reactor. Honestly I get why people would prefer to see the Abaddon fractal but really, is it absolutely necessary to suggest (even by omission) that everyone who voted for Kiel did so for reasons other than story?

I find it extremely unlikely that Evon could be "E". Marjory was grabbed by E from the back and she did not mention anything about him being a charr. Even without seeing him you'd probably notice if a charr grabbed you.
In the Crown Pavilion story instance a mysterious character shows up at one point. I'm suspecting that's out Scarlet, though it's speculations of course.
You mean Scarlet, and it's more likely to be a woman based on the name. Magnus did a lot of good for Lion's Arch, I find it unlikely that he would orchestrate sabotage on this scale.

Even though I got my permanent Evon-button quite early in the event, I voted for him ~500 times ( and only 5-10 times for Kiel, for the achievements. D: ).
But it was clear that Kiel would win.. I mean, boobs always win on the internet..
