      Rytlock got Sohothin by stealing it from the Flame Legion Charr who had dug it up from the rubble at the Mouth of Abaddon, where we left it in GW1. He got mist powers from spending too much time in the mists looking for Sohothin. But yeah, Balthazar is the one who made the blade, so he restored it to manipulate Rytlock into freeing him.

      I think it's because Mordremoth can attack pretty much anywhere, and maybe he wants to take care of the threat of the Ascalonian ghosts attacking, as well? I doubt they'd come to the aid of the Charr, since they're bound by blind hatred in their curse. I guess we'll have to wait to see for certain, though!

    Hey WP, rewatch this video and consider the events of season 2 and this potentiality. How much do we really know about the stone warband? the only members we know about are Rytlock and Rox. Rytlock accepted Rox into the warband knowing full well that she was working with the forming Destiny's edge 2.0 and knew that she would understand and fit in with his warband. The name of the warband is also curious. You posit that one of the more likely creatures to have recovered the sword was a dwarf. Do you think it's possible that the stone warband contains or at least works very closely with dwarves to an extent that it influences the naming of the warband? It would certainly explain why Rytlock distanced himself from them when advancing in the ranks as it would be very uncharrlike to be in such a warband. Use this question for a qanda or lore talk as you see fit :)

    its worth noting that if you are a char with an honorable sire the level 20 quest takes you on a journey to recover your fathers ascalonian valuable loot rytlock seems to have a special intrest in this, he grants your war band leave to go after this artifact, he asks to come along
    tribune of the blood legion, recovering your dads loot with a lowly legionnaire?
    its as if hes looking for something in ascalon, perhaps the twin sword as freeing up the lands of ascalon would probably earn him title of khan-ur, parhaps the pact will be broken and the kings heirs kidnapped, parhaps Logan will do it in exchange for the swords
    either way perhaps sohothin would teleport to reunite with mahagdir in ascalon, giving rytlock a chance to recover it

  • @swordsman1600
    @swordsman1600 Před 10 lety

    I'd never heard that first part about the origins of those swords before. I always thought that it might make for some interesting lore drama if the Iron Legion kept working out and found a way to 'contain' the ghosts forever as they seem to be doing, but then there were other groups, maybe humans or even humans and charr that felt that would be cruel and should be 'freed' in some way, like via these swords. Then whether or not the legions should care about ghosts and such could be built up.

    GW1 only got so large after several years, remember. GW2's accessible map is a little smaller than the original Prophecies though. There are plenty of hints to future expansion already in the game though, like the mysterious unreachable portal in Brisban Wildlands to the Maguuma Wastes, and the Desert Gate at Ebonhawke leading out to the Crystal Desert. Cantha and Elona may come after some years.... I hope!

    Building on my last comment, my guess at the events that gets Sohothin into Rytlock's hands goes like this...
    Devona recovers Sohothin from Undead Rurik's grasp after he is defeated by the player. At around the time of "The Last Day Dawns" (quest), she returns Sohothin to King Adelbern, who locks it away in the royal vaults in Ascalon. Centuries later, Rytlock discovers the royal vaults and loots the sword.

    I had the same thought. I think the guy you mean is called Beigarth the Smith. minor spoiler: Eir definitely knows him because she introduces him at one point in the Norn personal story. He is the guy, who searches for a way to craft a sword that has the ability to shatter the Tooth of Jormag, which may turn out to be one of the fiery twin swords, who knows. He also later joins the pact on Trahearnes request, so he is definitely a capable man. He never mentions Magdaer though...

    So I just happened to wonder about how related to this the announcement trailer for HoT might be. It opens with Rytlock journeying into the Maguuma and opening a gate into a large golden city (suspected Mursaat, of course). Now, this could be just a theatrical touch, showing off the new Rytlock opening the gates into the new expansion. Or, we could speculate...
    Suppose this is a legitimate story element? What if Rytlock had been there before? This is a rough theory I'm entertaining. Suppose, long ago, something happened to younger Rytlock's warband. [Would this also bear implications for the pain of Logan's desertion, as perhaps Rytlock has survived something similar in the past with his original warband? What if Rytlock was the deserter in the past and that's how he survived? Blind speculation is the best I have, of course...] Rytlock becomes a gladium; ridden with shame, he chooses distant adventure to distance himself from his past life or some such, and somehow finds the Mursaat city. Perhaps through a pre-conceived quest to find Sohothin (and regain some measure of his pride) by tracking scattered historical notes, or just by random chance, who knows. In any case, he finds this Mursaat city in the Maguuma, which lo and behold has a portal to the Fire Islands; while there, he manages to find Sohothin and thereafter return to Ascalon.
    A past visit to such a Mursaat city could explain how he would get to the Fire Islands to retrieve the sword, which could also be a reference for his name, Brimstone--supposing he did indeed lose his original warband beforehand and therefore eventually received a new surname. Also, if his retrieval of Sohothin was related to some dishonorable period of his life, perhaps he would prefer to shrug off questions thereabout as thewaterguy17 mentions.
    Or, after returning from the Mists, he is simply guided to the Mursaat city somehow by the Mists and everything becomes a bit more boring.
    ...Eh, that's the best I've got.

  • @LordXaras
    @LordXaras Před 10 lety

    Two things. First: In the Norn personal story mission chain "A Weapon of Legend" you meet Beigarth the Blacksmith, who is trying to forge a weapon capable of shattering the Fang of Jormag. He is probably the one Eir believes can restore the fire blade.
    Second: Do we know what Rytlock has done to earn his "Brimstone" epithet? It certainly seems a fitting name for someone who has braved the dangers of the Fire Islands and returned with a legendary blade in paw.

  • @regendo
    @regendo Před 10 lety

    I don't think destroyers drawing power from Sohothin's flames necessarily means Sohothin has a relation to Primordus, but rather that fire isn't how you fight a destroyer. A concept we should be familiar with: If I remember correctly, destroyers took less damage from fire attacks and were immune to burning in GW1. Hell, even regular Flame Legion charr drew power from flames according to "The Nolani Academy Of Arcane Arts".

    Glint may not have been able to see past her death, but could at least see Destiny's Edge (-Logan) holding their own and Snaff progressing well with his invention.
    Glint then hid SoO & Sohothin conveniently to ensure Destiny's Edge got as strong as they did. The fight may have been a final gamble on whether they would succeed based on her test in the book, or a belief that wounding Kralkattorik would give time for the "almighty" Trahearne to mature.

    You say that Sohothin was left at the RoF chain, but I just went and watched the end cinematic where the sword didn't get a scene. I think this means that it is not safe to assume that it was left in the RoF. Instead it may have been teleported through the same magic that teleported the Scepter of Orr.
    Glint hid SoO for Livia to find and Livia helped keep the Krytan Royals alive. Maybe Glint hid Sohothin for Rytlock to find as she already foresaw Destiny's Edge take on Kralkatorrik.

    How Rytlock (may) have gotten the sword:
    Scenario A: He may have been formerly Flame Legion and used his fire powers to go to the fire island to get the fire sword and be the fire king.
    Scenario B: When Orr rose, the resulting tsunami splattered the fire island chain and washed Sohothin into the Sea of Sorrows, Rytlock went for a walk on a beach somewhere and found it.
    Scenario C: Rytlock went to the fire island and picked it up? He's voiced by Steve Blum so he's automatically badass.

    logan should know that Prince Rurik was killed by Dagnar Stonepate over the Shiverpeak Mountains so the only plausible reason for him to mention that Rytlock looted Sohothin from ascalon is knowing of someone trying to reunite the twin swords before Eir... or a massive lack of knowledge

  • @TheGreatSkirazi
    @TheGreatSkirazi Před 6 lety

    I've always thought it odd that the ritual which cleanses the Foefire may only be triggered by a "true heir" to Ascalon. If the magic is Orrian (which it may not even be, as you noted in the video), how does it decide who the "true heir" of a completely different nation is? Is it decided by Adelbern's will, the one who initiated the Foefire? If the magic is indeed of human origin, might it still permit a charr to use its magic, considering the charr are the rightful (and current) rulers of the land? Would the Khan-Ur, if one appeared, be able to cleanse the Foefire?
    And simmering below all of this surface detail, we can pay extra attention to the events 250 years ago: much of Pre-Searing was focused on the Royalists' struggle to overthrow King Adelbern, who had been given the crown as a recognition of his military achievements, and restore the royal bloodline of Barradin. Could it be that the 'true king' of Ascalon was Barradin all along, and the Foefire is literally a curse brought upon the nation because Magdaer's power had been invoked by a usurper? There is, of course, the subplot where Rurik and Althea - Barradin's daughter, as you know - were supposed to unite the two families, thus ending the Royalist uprising. Is it at all possible that in the 2 years between the Searing and Althea's kidnapping, she bore Rurik a child? Could Barradin's (and Adelbern's, I suppose) bloodline still live on in contemporary Tyria, and would that descendant qualify as the "true heir" of Ascalon?

    One of the ascended trinkets you can get is Rurik's Royal Signet Ring, which makes me wonder if Devona brought Rurik's entire body back for a proper burial back in Ascalon?! If not, adding his signet ring to the sword she recovered doesn't seem too far fetched. Given there's a Rurik armour set AND the ring, perhaps it WAS his entire body that was recovered, and returned to Ascalon.

    What about the Scepter of Orr? After it disappeared from the Fire Islands it was found. The end cinematic of Eye of the North clearly shows Livia finding it. Livia was a member of the Shining Blade and wanted to reunite Kryta. Could that be why you don't see many Risen around Kryta? Livia used the Scepter's power to drive off the undead that were plaguing Kryta, and through the ages it has been passed down by the Shining Blade, meaning that it could still be hidden somewhere. Probably by Anise.

    If considering what mortal might have traversed the fire Island Chain and recovered Sohothin there is one really obvious possibility even thought we can't be sure how much he can really be considered 'canon'.
    I'm talking , of course, about Nicholas Sandfort - known as the traveler. We do know that he traveled to almost unreachable places of the world such as the desolation. We also know that he collects items everywhere he goes and also that he gifts items.
    Now of course Nicholas died in 1110 AE and while we don't know the actual age of Rytlock we do know that charr age roughly as fast or slow as humans, so its rather unlikely that he was born long before ..say 1270 or 1280 - over 150 years after Nicholas death. But Nicholas might ahve given it to a charr who passed it down - or might have hidden it close to his final place of rest: Ebon Hawk, a city that has been udner siege by charr...

      +ricky222rofl I actually found further evidence for my theory in the expansion: If you buy a lore book called "there with Yakkington: A travelers Tale Prologue" from Zinn's Print-o-matic it'll read on page 4: "Still nothing compares to our trip to the ring of fire islands! Not only did we end up in the shadow of an activ vulcano, we also arrived during the Titan assault agaisnt the Mursaat."
      Now one migth say that is nothing new, because when you wereon the island that holds the gate of khomali there was always the assault going on. But we never really knew how nickolas sandfords appearance would tie into the cronology of the game. Well now we know for certain: he was right there when the sword was lost.

    On the other hand you may be right there! Cause by saying: 'I sense Sohothin's presence nearby Rurik u have returned!' he does confirm the fact of giving Rurik the real sword. I presume that's what you ment, if so then I can see that now! =) Good find!

    Maybe it were the Flame Legion in cooperation with the Dredge who retrieved the sword through some underground tunneling and Rytlock stole it. And in the living story they're bundeling forces again to get it back. That would give a whole other turn to the Flame and Frost Story. =p

    I suspect the story of Sohothin to be told in future. It seems many of the members of EDs' backstory will be told in the living story. Caithes secret, Eirs son, Rytlock and Sohothin, Logan and Zojja i don't know.

    Early in the norn story line, you meet a blacksmith who Eir also knows. That might be the blacksmith.

    No. Jormag's Breath is a reference to the Icy Dragon Sword in GW1, which was just a blue Fiery Dragon Sword. It's a remake of the IDS to better separate it from the FDS and to be more GW2 related.
    The vast majority of weapons, skins, and armors have nothing to do with the lore and are there to just be shiny.

    Seeing how with every new episode,you remind us of the multitude of unfinisished storylines, I am concerned whether or nor Arenanet are having a "masterplan" for the story/lore of the world or are just adding on stuff wherever need be. Because the living story is so rapidly moving the status-quo of the world forwards, they would now need to find a way to tie in some of the more recent events (e.g. Rox joins Rytlock) into the mysteries' conclusions to make them consistent with the world.

    I just want to bring up that the Scepter of Orr also had a twin. There was a quest about in the desolation.

  • @ctrout_studio
    @ctrout_studio Před 10 lety

    hmmm if Magdaer and Sohothin are relics of Primordus maybe the Scepter of Orr is a relic of Zaihtan (as it's all about undead). I can't think of any other relics though...
    Btw I think Eir is implying she's going to give it to Beigarth. It's not said anywhere but he is the only norn blacksmith we've met that's into old forging methods and fixing relics. I could be wrong though.
    Ty for vid :)

    I think you broke my brain a little bit, because now I'm trying to figure this out. I do think that anet has given these characters a bit too much potential. It doesn't seem as if they even remember all this mystery that they've put into their characters. If they have someone write another book with this kinda thing, then yay! I'll gladly buy it. But they can't really do anything ingame concerning Sohothin or even Rytlock.

    What if King Rurik was turned in to a Charr on the fire island chains and somehow escaped?

    Tequatal is slowly morphing k to Zhaitan, or new version at least. The chances of one of the old races not killing one of them is incredibly low, so either there used to be more, or a champion becomes the new elder dragon.

    Interesting that you mention he may be more important to the story than the others of Destiny's Edge, especially now since he is lost in the mists... looks like you were right. Also lets see a mysteries about Caithe, that girl is full of mystery.

    This is interesting, this makes me think of where the game might go forward in the living story... we have seen Scarlet go to Caithe with claiming she knows her past, maybe next we will see her go into the Catacombs and say the same about Rytlock.. maybe she is trying to get to Destinys Edge by past events? idk just a thought, i mean we still dont know to much about any of them really... What do yall think?
