    WP, I want you to imagine a grown man in his house, with his wife, pick up his phone as he heads upstairs to play Path of Exile. As he touches the phone, the screen lights up and says "Guild Wars 2 Mysteries: The Deep Sea Dragon". What unfolds is two minutes of shrieking, the man telling his wife: "This is what I fall asleep to! This is what I listened to every day during my jaw surgery! This is my favorite GW2 series!!"
    I am so unbelievably happy to see another one of these after so long. Thanks, WP, really looking forward to watching this.

      @@perisemiotics3204 Don't worry about the surgery! I recovered very quick so that in a week I didn't feel pain, it just feels a bit stiff mostly as it starts healing. You'll look goofy for a few months but once it heals your confidence goes up big time. If you ever consider the surgery again, it's no big deal! I really didn't have much pain at all, just mostly discomfort and stiffness and had to eat non-solid food for something like 6 weeks (which goes by super fast if you just eat milk shakes, protein shakes, soup, etc.)

    Great to see this series come back. I’m surprised, however, that you didn’t mention what happened at the end of season 4 when we defeat Kralk. As he died, he said ”Mother...” and soon after, we hear the sound of waves breaking. The developers explicitly called this out during an episode of Guild Chat and teased us by saying “If you listen to what’s happening there aurally, maybe you’ll find some clues.”
    The deep sea dragon may turn out to be the mother of all dragons.

    What if the DSD is good or neutral?
    Perhaps the Largos are the villains here. We know they're obsessed with hunting powerful prey - what conquest would be more powerful than an Elder Dragon? Perhaps all of the "evil" things we've heard of the DSD is just Largos propaganda, and the aquatic races being pushed out were just a repercussion of the dragon defending itself from Largos assault.

    • @shinigamiFtw
      @shinigamiFtw Před 3 lety +1

    • @MrHawkelement
      @MrHawkelement Před 2 lety +1

      @@traveling.down.the.road56 Few problems with that idea: 1.) Children? They're all equals and if Jormag is to be believed, siblings and nothing more. (For the record, Jormag probably is as unreliable of a narrator as ever) 2.) It's treated as a good thing that we off'ed the dragons and was only treated as a bad thing during the time that Aurene was young, but now that she can contain and redistribute the magic, it's perfectly fine. Furthermore, she didn't even get most of the magic from Primordus and Jormag, it went "somewhere else"

    Well. At least that's just a thought I guess :D

    Hey WP! I'm really happy to see you doing these lore mystery videos again. The one mystery that's always been poking the back of my brain is the one introduced in season 4, A Star to Guide Us, in Jahai Bluffs, the displaced zones - specifically the "???"/"Unknown Cavern" area. "It features a small portion of another world, with highly hallucinogenic mushrooms." with "affected by low gravity". Where in the world (well, universe) is this location from? and what could it mean in terms of our understanding when it comes to Tyria and the universe it's in?

  • @Teraphas
    @Teraphas Před 3 lety +1

    WP idea for a daily/ floor topic. What is the aesthetic nature of the DSD territory?
    I started thinking about this the other day with the teaser art episode and the bubbles in the scenes. So far all the dragons territory are inhospitable and often menacing. What if in an effort to subvert expectations this dragons territory seems rather idyllic? Elysian fields with whimsical bubbles floating thru them. Whether or not they are a true ally as you think would be cool encountering an inviting and pleasant dragon domain would definitely throw our characters and cast off, especially on the heels of jormag's attempts to seem/be friendly.
    While maybe not connected to lyssa directly the dev's choice to give her water could serve to connect water and illusion in the players minds. So if a true ally the DSD presents a paradise and horrors to enemies of them and their allies. If really a big bad the illusions could serve as an almost dreamlike realm to lure you into the tentacles and teeth that will end you.

    It's really interesting seeing this video after EOD... that sentence from the article in 2007 is still as fascinating after as it was before, because... it wasn't the dragon?? Other people who are in the same boat as me (desperately excited for the DSD open ocean, tentacled horrors expansion) may be disappointed in Soo-Won but I'm not. That's a cool story on its own, AND it hasn't ruined what we expected from the DSD because of the NPCs that talk about what we thought was the dragon actually lines up with her *leaving* the deep ocean. I do kinda hate more waiting and I'm afraid they'll never actually tackle the story (here's hoping that sentence ages poorly!), but honestly learning this creature in the deep ISN'T the dragon, and we know even LESS about it than before since our only theory is out the window REALLY fits the vibe of incomprehensible lovecrafitan threat so well. We literally have no clue whatsoever what the thing actually is, and I can't wait to find out

    Yess I love this series!! Unexplained questions and theories in fantasy properties may well be my favorite thing in all the world, I love thinking about these mysteries and trying to solve them, hoping one day we get answers to that which is mysterious and unknown. And in GW2 the DSD is one of my favorite concepts/mysteries that I desperately hope to see addressed one day in great detail. I'd always hoped for the deep sea expansion with cthulu-like tentacled horrors serving this unfathomably horrific beast deep deep below the waves in the darkest shadows of the world. Looks like they're merging the DSD plot with Cantha (which already had enough story content to make an expansion for itself free of elder dragons), which is also very exciting!

    But on a personal level, my fear of deep open water and all the eldritch horrors it could hide makes the dsd the most important threat. I hope aNet takes some cues from Subnautica.

    This is why I became hooked to this channel in the first place ! Geeking about the depth of
    By the way, is there a possibility that the deep sea dragon is not one entity but two ? Kunaavang and something else ? Like two sides of the same power (alternating with who is "in charge" maybe ?). Looking at the expension logo and the two ying-yang dragons I can't help but think about this possibility.

    I always pictured the DSD as similar to the Kaiju Slattern from Pacific Rim after his possible appearance in the All.

    I enjoy anything delving into videogame lore/mysteries. I try and be one of those guys who reads all the in-game books and npc dialogue but I only knew a couple of these things, it's always fun stuff.

    Since most of the Elder's names come from real world mythology I started flipping through sea themed deities and monsters with a focus on the letter S and I am placing my money on Salacia, who was the female divinity of the sea, worshiped as the goddess of salt water who presided over the depths of the ocean and had Neptune as a consort. Also Sharks are Selachians, which get their name from her, so yeah, that's my 2 cents.

      Your money is on THAT ONE? When Seiryu is right there?! (Chinese-Japanese "Azure Dragon") when we're going to Cantha to meet said-dragon.

    During your EoD dailies, theres a lot of chat about Norn appearing in Cantha. Im more wondering the Asura involvement will be. Considering you mention the Inquest capturing a beast and chatter in the blue zone, perhaps we can tie the inquest in Cantha here?

    I always wondered if Steve (DSD) and Kralkartorrik are/were counterparts to each other, similar to the other elder dragons, like Zhaitan and Mordremoth, as shown in LS 3 with the grubs and more recently with the "twins" Primordus and Jormag. If so I wonder if Aurene inherits that trait, or if the Mother comment by Kralkartorrik with the wave sound hints at a different relationship between Kralkartorrik and Steve.

  • @Vallun
    @Vallun Před 3 lety

    I always wondered what the purpose of WvW and PvP are (from a lore perspective) What exactly is the "Mist War" the NPCs talk about

    • @MrHawkelement
      @MrHawkelement Před 2 lety

      In the mists, there are different versions of Tyria (in gameplay terms, the different servers) and when you go into WvW, you're trying to claim resources for your version of Tyria from the mists while other versions of Tyria do the same thing. Thus, a war happens. Hope that helps you understand it, but that's Anet's answer and it's riddled with universe-shattering problems when it comes to writing so don't think too hard about it or you'll see the big problems too.

    Crazy thought. Mordremoth turned out to be the maguuma jungle itself right? What if the deep sea dragon is the oceans itself. "Spinning into tentacle horrors" could be water sprouts or whirlpools

    WP, you of all people should have known the truth about the Deep Sea Dragon. You have played Guild Wars 2 for so long, scoured the lore and even became part of it at some points and still youu forgot the immense source of details about the plight against the Deep Sea Dragon, in fact, you have fought it before several times. It's name starts with an S, and it rules the ocean and spawns monsters from within... it is also the dragon of memory and summoning, it's name is Sin!

    7:41 'it might also suggest that the creatures spawned by the DSD are of a gargantuan size' well, that should make it considerably easier for the rest of us non-Inquest types to get a look at it somehow. so the DSD minions value their privacy and are quite sneaky?^^

    The Jade Maw might be a champion of this dragon. I am assuming the Jade Maw is Zhu Hanuku, but that isn't confirmed as yet. The lesser kraken spawn might be related to the Jade Maw and I think it is of note that the kraken spawn don't leave behind corpses. A similar trait to the nightmare tentacle horrors present in the underworld.
