      WoodenPotatoes i think you could actually link jormag and the deep sea dragon. jormag represents ice still standing, stagnation and the deep sea dragon is water flowing change. primordus is destruction and kalkratorik is growth (of crystals).

      @xkmto Před 10 lety

      MikePhantom The (of crystals) part is what doesn't make it work. :p I thought pretty much all elder dragons were destruction anyway? I believe WP said in an earlier video that the elder dragons would do anything to consume magic, and kill anything that gets in our way. Or at least thats evident throughout the game.

    one thing about the trailer is it had not only icebrood in it but it also showed a part of ascalon with mordrem vines all over it. to me it looked like a place that is near the brand. so what i hope Anet is going to do is show these three types of corrupted advancing forward and possibly coming into contact with each other. it would be neat to have to deal with threats from multiple dragons at once. it would convey concept that has been missing in gw2. which is the fact that these dragons can change the landscape with a sneeze and they haven't just been sitting in a cave waiting for us to get a letter from E saying its okay to kill them. they've been taking territory.

    @JonLukeWest Před 10 lety +1

    WoodenPotatoes another thing to add to your connection between Kralk and Kormir/Abaddon, Abaddon gave the charr the cauldron that was responsible for causing the searing, which was conveniently a bunch of giant purple crystals that look like Kralk magic falling from the sky, and "It is said that the magic powering the cauldron was older than even the Titans, powered by beings who had long ago fallen into sleep." -GW1 wiki

    Yeah, I think the stuff about Zhaitan's magic flooding the world is basically the conclusion we came to on GuildGab. We also figured that could be why Tequatl was getting stronger. That's a really good point about it being poisoned, though. I wonder what that'll mean for not only the other dragons, but us - weavers of magic ourselves.

    Hi WP and thanks for all the GW2 vids. I was kind of pushed into action when you now mentioned that there is no perfect match between the orbs, the elder dragons and the human gods. So I started playing around and I had this idea, that not only the orbs represent differnt/several things but the gods do too. Dwayna is not just simply a healing goddess but instead also the goddess of life and air etc. So starting with that, if you assigned each god twice to the orbs/dragons, it works really well if you ask me. So this is how I did it:
    * Primodus: Balthazar (fire), Melandru (earth=stone, growth) | FIRE | RED
    * Jormag: Grenth (ice), Lyssa (water=ice) | ICE | BRIGHT BLUE
    * Zhaitan: Kormir (spirit(death)), Grenth (death) | DEATH,POISON | GREEN
    * DSD: Lyssa (water), Kormir (order -> it's awake but won't act yet OR Abbadon's water+secret) | WATER | BLUE
    * Kralkatorrik: Dwayna (air), Balthazar (fire->branded) | AIR,CRYSTAL | PURPLE
    * Modremoth: Melandru (nature), Dwayna (life) | LIFE(cycle) | BLACK-TO-GREEN
    cheers ^-^

    The end of this, honestly, was really really brilliant!
    I am presently being tempted toward a theory that the PC and the Thaumanova Anomaly are closely related. I also still find it very intriguing that the wording of the dialogue following the PC's vision could be interpreted as implying that the PC is one of the things that the central orb stands for in the vision. It would be very interesting to me if the devs took seriously the past criticism about upstaging by Kormir and Trahearne and then decided that they would make up for this by creating a cosmic relevance for the PC in GW2's endgame.

    One thing thing I want to say about whole Dragons = Gods theory is that the Deep Sea Dragon isn't necessarily a "water" dragon the way Jormag is an Ice Dragon and Primordus is a Fire Dragon.
    We don't know anything about it, but personally I have a lot of doubt that it controls and embodies water those dragons do with their element.
    I very much doubt that when / if the Deep Sea Dragon and its minions come to shore, they'll shoot water at us, be made of water and that will be their theme. It just currently lives deep under water. So it always bugs me when people say "Oh well Kormir isn't water and therefore can't correspond with DSD. Lyssa has to correspond with the DPS because Lyssa is water now. "
    We have no idea what the Deep Sea Dragon is, what its actual theme is, what its domain of influence is, and what its capabilities are. The best we currently have to go on is that "horrors" appeared in the unending ocean. It's a wild card and could fit Lyssa, Dwayna, and Kormir all very well. Heck, it might still represent Abaddon instead of Kormir.
    Also, I feel Lyssa = Kralkatorrik is very strong because the branded use a lot of mesmer abilities such as Chaos Storms.
    Just my two cents on that issue.

      This doesnt have to mean magic becomes unusable. Dragons ingest magic wheras mages only handle it. You can perfectly use sulfuric acid as a tool and work with it but you probably shouldnt ingest it.
      Or if you work with the principles of opposing dragons, what is lethal to zhaitan could be quite tasty and healthy for mordremoth.

      Well considering the whole ''Elder Dragons contain magic'' fact. As I said earlier, us killing Elder Dragons willy-nilly without thinking the consiquences , will comeback to hunt Tyria, maybe in hundreds of years , we don't know.
      One thing is for certain though. Without Elder Dragons or somesort of containment cycle, the magic will overflow and Tyria won't be able to contain it. Even if the planet somehow survive the overflow of magic, I doubt the living races will be able to handle it. I mean they either destory eachother or the overflow of magic will tear them apart.
      My only theory of how to survive without Elder Dragons is either Asura creating a device that can hold magic in massive scale or something or Rebuilding the Bloodstones.

      Taylan Ertan An interesting theory, but so far I have not seen much evidence that dictates magic is ever growing. Past events makes me think it's actually a very finite resource. However, it is possible that a sudden surge of the stuff from the deaths of several dragons could easily change the face of Tyria as we know it. We saw just what excess magic did to a select few races. Some even managing to transcend to higher planes of existence. While magic hasn't seemed like a volatile thing, it can very well increase tensions among the races attempting to seize control of the stuff.

    Oh man, something that just occurred to me, after your mention of Kasmeer's "Gift". What if she's the avatar of Kormir? The Goddess of truth that replaced the God of Secrets... And then I got to thinking, there's 6 members of Destiny's Edge 2.0 if you include the player. Marjorie-Grenth, Braham-Balthazar, Rox-Melandru(?) and the clincher, the character that's two individuals as one, Taimi-Lyssa. That just leaves the Player and Dwayna. Something to think on, perhaps.

  • @yamyaminjapan
    @yamyaminjapan Před 9 lety +4

    Just a theory, but maybe the eternal alchemy represents balance not just on Tyria but anywhere in the cosmos. so rather than attributing gods with dragons, how about just leaving the two separate. So what I mean by this is, the dragons are Tyrian by nature and therefore are the balance of Tyria and that is what is being shown in that cutscene. However, we could take the same map and attribute it to the world that the gods came from. each god represents a different orb. As each world has their own 'map' so to speak. This is why the gods could never kill Abbadon as their world would become totally out of whack. So when they sealed him in the realm of torment, there was no way they could stay on Tyria as they would cause major disruption to their own balance, which is why they left for a different dimension, to keep that balance with all 6 of them being in a different dimension, rather than 5 in the real world and 1 in a different realm. Maybe with the defeat of each dragon, our world could adopt the gods one by one, to help keep our world in balance again by them taking over the former dragons positions of balance and rather than destroy the world, can begin reshaping it again. Like anti-dragons or something. Anyway as i said just a theory, there are probably loads of holes in it or whatever but interesting nonetheless i think.

    What if Kasmeer's ability to see if a person is lying has to do with Kormir? What if she blessed Kasmeer to see passed lies and to the Truth a person is trying to hide. Likewise, it could be that she could have been blessed by Lyssa to see deceit. Either way, I can see this easily as something tied with both gods. Both of which have an interesting connection with Abaddon. I can't remember which, but I remember that it was either Abaddon or Lyssa that arrived to Tyria last, after the other gods had settled onto the planet. One of the two saw something (maybe the dragons?) while the other found out due to their powers. Since Kormir absorbed Abaddon's power, she maybe was able to see what it was that Abaddon knew about the dragons. I find it interesting that maybe one of them gave Kasmeer, who has oddly found herself with a group of individuals that very well may end up killing all of the Elder Dragons, a special power to see past lies/see the truth within someone.

    So for jormag and dwyana, dwyana was the god or light and air, the claw of hormag flies through the air and jormag can summon blizzards and effect weather. So if jormag has power over the air dwyana might fit with him that way.
    I personally don't see the connection between the dragons and gods being the same but the gods realizing they were in danger of being absorbed by the elder dragons and thus leaving so that non magical creatures could destroy the dragons kind if makes sense.

    I'm not seeing it. I think if the order is to be taken literally, this may have been a process of cycles that SHOULD HAVE been but didn't occur on schedule. With that in mind it would mean Mordremoth's awakening was out of balance (likely the Pale Tree's meddling) and was supposed to awaken earlier. That being said, the idea that the Zhaitan is the orb that strikes the center goes against the symbolism. He's the black orb that goes yellow (not green), a sickly yellow, where as Mordremoth is a vibrant dark green. In crashing into the center, spreading occurs and what we hear is that same roar we heard during Season 1 finale - WHILE the viewer falls towards the center as though it's flying at us.

  • @MiIIiIIion

    On the talk about whether Tyria should be considered an orb of the same sort as the orbs representing the dragons:
    Perhaps Tyria is a sort of blank slate that is controlled by the dragons. Either 6 dragons that wake up every once in a while to regulate the magic of Tyria then fall back asleep, or possibly 7 dragons that fight for control over the truly blank Tyria (no magic at all), and when one wins they gain control of Tyria, fill it with their magic, and give it shape, but have to sit out the next battle and at the end of it get kicked out to make room for the victor.
    The second one is a stretch, but it would explain why what we're seeing as Tyria is an orb too, but there seems to be no dragon or other greater power directly associated with it.

    Hi WP, after so many more story updates, and especially the recent Flashpoint, it is amazing to watch this again. Something I have been thinking of for a long time, and which I think might be the crux to several problems, is the idea of generations. This comes from multiple angles:
    For one. I have always been surprised by how easy it was to kill an Elder Dragon. First Zhaitan and now Mordremoth. We are aware that there have been many more generations of races before us that have been fighting the Elder Dragons. Yet for some reason we assume we are the first to actually kill one (now even two) of them. Why are we so certain of this? The Mursaat were pretty badass. Why wouldn’t they be able to kill an Elder Dragon?
    Second. We know now that the Elder Dragons are basically huge physical vessels of magic. If we kill them their energy is not destroyed: its spread around. It’s the reason why we know now that with every Dragon we kill, the next one will only become more difficult to kill, because it will fully or partly consume the energy of the previous one. It happened with Mordremoth, and is already happening now with Primordus and Jormag. So:
    A. the energy of dragons always lives on, even when their bodies are destroyed.
    B. Perhaps previous race-generations have managed to kill their first and second Elder Dragon, only to fail at the third or fourth. Thus allowing the energies to later reform into new Elder Dragons.
    From here we can bring in the Gods for parallels: we know that they have had similar things happen with Abaddon getting killed and Kormir taking his place. What also happened here: they changed aspects,in a way that was both conflicting and coinsiding. The God of Secrets became the God of Truth. Related, yet opposing.
    Now go back to this conflicting coupling of Gods and Dragons and this too might be the crux: we see the element of water be present with both Elder Dragons and Gods, yet it switches entities from time to time. Some Gods and Dragons perfectly match up and others only partly.
    The Gods and Dragons could therefore be related in (I think) three different ways:
    1. The Gods and the Dragons have always been each others antithesis.One group spreads magic, the other consumes it. With the match up of their elements starting out perfect at the beginning of time, but messing up by the death and rebirth of both Gods and Elder Dragons as time moves on.
    2. The Gods are a previous, or perhaps, newer generation of entities that are the Elder Dragons, with either the Gods or the Elder Dragons being an anomoly in the lifecycle of divine beings.
    3. The gods are de-corrupted champions of the current/previous Elder Dragons. With Balthasar being an ex-champion of Primordus, but Grenth and Dwayna of an older Elder Dragon that has since been killed and whose energies have later reformed into Zhaitan and Jormag.
    This idea would also be far from revolutionary considering the significance and power of Glint. If you would compare them now, is there any creature on the good side of the spectrum ever coming close to the power of the Gods than Glint? If anything, she seems like the real God of our generation.
    Anyway, this what I have been thinking off for a longer time now, mostly based on your loreseries since I only really joined the GW-community like a year before HoT released. I think there really is something here and would turn into a lot of interesting new questions about the connection between the humans and the Gods and Elder Dragons (are the humans the ‘sylvari’ of a previous generation?). I wonder if you think there is a truth to this and if its something you heard/thought of before.
    All the best, and keeping making all this amazing content! You’re channel is still the biggest reason why I keep loving the franchise!

    What if each orb is one of the main races in the world.. when you make a new character each race glows a color: Charr - Red, Human - Yellow, Norn - Blue, Asura - Purple, Sylvari - Green, This leave 1 orb White this could be 1 of 3 races Kodan, Largos or Tengu as white could be snow,water (blue is Ice i think) or Wind and the center changes depending on which dragon is most active or biggest threat to the dragons which at the moment are Mordremoth and the Sylvari.

    This looks very likely now, with what is happening with dragon minion mash ups. Zhaitan's death released his magic into Tyria, letting the others absorb and control it. We saw Mordremoth raise undead plant minions after taking corpses and putting them in "blighting pods".
    The same has just happened with Mordremoth, letting Primordus (and to a much lesser extent, Jormag) create death and plant themed minions. I suppose if we were to go into the machine now, we would see the black orb then the green orb fly into the central part.

    The more you make these fascinating videos, piecing together bits of lore with current story and creating these, honestly quite intriguing, speculations about where the whole story will be going and what it will all have meant in the end, I can't help but increasingly fear that the developers will not nearly be able to deliver to the grandeur of this.
    I mean honestly, looking at the way the story of Season 1 was presented and the obvious focus we are seeing for Season 2 on a more dialouge-heavy screenwriting-style approach, Living Story has so far not proven to be very effective in incorporating old lore.
    Sure, it has spun together some of the more recently introduced plot-points, but there had already been numerous hints during Season 1 that these would remain significant. What I like about your speculations, is that your theories give meaning to plot points that were previously insiginificant and very easily overlooked.
    It gives the whole story and the whole universe a much deeper sense of coherence, a feeling that despite how it may seem on the surface, everything actually is connected and nothing exists without purpose.
    Creating a story of this grandeur and actually having a grand plan for the story that gives credit to the majority (not all) of tiny bits of story and lore, would of course require a gigantic amount of oversight from the devs.
    Basically it would mean that either Bobby Stein or Angel Mc Coy, who i believe have the most say in matters of lore, devoted their whole work to making sure everything in the living world is coherent with old lore and the overarching story.
    It would also probably require that the whole story of Living World has already been written out long ago. And seeing how ArenaNet is a company who likes to react to feedback and opinions from the community, which naturally only ever come in after the fact, and likes to reiterate on its on work, i have my doubt the writers would have the discipline to do this.
    Ultimately, as much as speculation is fun and helps us, the players, immerse ourselves better into the world, we are only the consumers in these types of games and it is not ours to influence what will happen, so we will have to wait and see.
    PS: Kudos to you, for making me sit here and type out this kind of comment at 4:30 at night, but I do love me some speculation videos ;)

      Actually, here is a fun way of simplifying my criticism of the current presentation:
      How Living World does it: BIG current events, involving BIG things, from the near past
      How WP speculates: BIG current events, involving tiny things, from the very distant past
      One feels blunt and easily made-up, while the other feels clever and intriguingly complicated.

    The Norse mythology connection is actually pretty valid. The Eddas(basically an Asgardian storybook) are the inspiration for pretty much every single fantasy story after it. Most of Tolkien's works, which laid the groundwork for most modern fantasy, use ideas, themes, characters and races from the Eddas. The shining example of this is Gandalf. Gandalf IS Odin the Wanderer in all but name and the name itself is from one of the first 12 Dwarves(and actually means Elf-Friend).
    One thing that i love about Gw2 is that instead of using the same ideas as Tolkien they go straight to the source. The Jotunn, Norn, Ogres,Sylvari(Huldra) and much more originates from Norse Mythology. To my knowlege Jörmungandr doesn't actually guard the world though, it's supposed to eat it and fight Thor at Ragnarök.
    It's still interesting to look at though, it could have a connection :)

    The world serpent doesn't necessarily protect the world tree. During Ragnarok it is believed that the serpent will rise from the sea poison the skies; then when he lets go of his tail the world will end. So he could be more akin to the dragons destroying the world.

    Been wondering, in light of the expack, perhaps the death of zhaitan does release more magic to the world, or at least less magic gets sucked out of it. Then we have mordremoth growing to try and pick up the slack. But with the expack come more abilities(specialisations, flying/gliding and whatnot) and a whole new class. These might be seen as their idea of the magic levels rising

    What if, every time we kill a dragon the other dragon's get proportionally stronger as a result of the extra magic flooding the world? This would give an excuse for vertical progression and a reason to get stronger as the story progresses. However, Anet wants to stay away from vertical progression in favor of horizontal progression. This also ignores the poisoned magic we fed Zhaitan. Perhaps that poison was specifically made for Zhaitan, or it is diluted from all the other magic of the world, or the dragons choose to stay away from it.
    As an aside, I think it would be hilarious if, after we have killed a few dragons, the human gods come back to stop us because we are upsetting the balance of the world. Or some shenanigans like that. I think it would be a very compelling story if suddenly the human gods are our enemies and we have to figure out how to fix the damage we have caused by killing some of the dragons, and deal with the other dragons somehow without killing them, and try out best not to go extinct during the whole ordeal.

    If you're guessing the Master of Peace has an orb, I feel like it'd maybe be Kralk's cause well baby of a former champion, but also cause kralk seems linked to the Crystal dessert a place where glint resided and where the zephyrites likely originated. Zhaitan - Grenth - Ice/Death/Poison
    DSD - Kormir - Secrets/Originally water/"Kormir, hero of Elona, was pulled into the inky blackness surrounding the God of Secrets" Inky Blackness, Ocean Depths?
    Kralk - Dwayna - Life/Air - The idea of air came because of Glint, Kralks minion, giving the gift (kinda) of air to the zephyrites
    Mordremoth - Melandru - Trees, hurr durr

    No way Scarlet's a tragic hero. She embarked on a year long terror-spree across Tyria, dabbling in thievery, blackmail, slavery, and mass murder. All of this culminated in a massive assault on a city that left thousands dead and thousands more homeless. There was nothing stopping her from going to the Pact or the Captain's Council or that homeless quaggan in Prosperity and enlisting their help in a way that didn't kill thousands of innocent people. She was born to be bad, people.
    There is a way to salvage the theory, though. I propose this: Scarlet was corrupted by Mordremoth to do his bidding, but a small part of her resisted him and went about sabotaging his master plan on the side. Scarlet struggling with herself caused her mind to snap, explaining her erratic and insane behavior. This way, they don't dismiss the evil she's done, but still get to paint her in a tragic light. It would also explain that little note she left on the Spinal Blade Blueprints ("Caithe, someday you'll see. Tyria needs me.")

    You have your zhaitan and mordremoth orbs switched in all your labeling. If you follow the awakening timeline the one on the left is in time with big Z, and furthermore, following that orb in the slow motion shows it to be the one which falls into Tyria; not the one on the right.

  • @naeviaus
    @naeviaus Před 10 lety +1

    Why are we still talking about Kormir and Grenth? Neither were around when the Gods first set foot on Tyria.
    We should really be talking about Dhuum (similar enough to Grenth, I guess, but even more death-centric) and Abaddon (who was simply the god of Water before his corruption).
    Now we can pair up: Melandru&Mordremoth (Nature/Wildlife), Primordus&Balthazar (Fire), Kralkatorrik&Dwayna (Air/Lightning), DSD&Abaddon (Water), Dhuum&Zhaitan (Death)
    *HOWEVER!*
    This still leaves Lyssa and Jormag. They do fit in the way that Lyssa is the godess of Illusions and Jormag "and some of its champions have powerful mental capabilities that alter their enemies' way of thinking." [wiki/Jeff Grubb interview], but I'm not convinced.
    I don't believe that the pairing of Gods and ED's is useful at all. The devs made a point of the Gods leaving Tyria, so that a the new storyline could encompass every race, not only humans.

    I always thought that the orb going into the center was Zhaitan's. I can't remember whether I commented it on the original video but I remember disagreeing that it was Mordremoth. I also like the suggestion of a link between Abaddon and Kralkatorrik. Which gets me thinking. Palawa Joko is in Elona right? Maybe there's something going on between him and Kralkatorrik. Maybe they're fighting each other down there and the protagonists must (eventually/soon) choose to aid one in defeating the other before having to stab them in the back for being evil?
    Parallels between a newly revealed 6th Dragon and a (then) nely revealed 6th god reminded me about how I like reasonably unpredictable stories (over predictable). Abaddon was done badly as an unpredictable story element IMO. There were never any clues to his existence and they just covered it up with 'oh he's forbidden so all his records were erased.' On the other hand Mordremoth was done well as an unpredictable story element. At launch we had no idea that there would be a 6th dragon (heck we still don't know much about the DSD). However as we played the game we slowly uncovered clues and I remember (something like the following) in WP's older videos, he asked the question: 'what if there was a 6th elder dragon?' And then we got Mordremoth when Scarlett died. It wasn't obvious but it didn't come out of nowhere either. Great writing by Anets part. I want more of the story to be like this. That we can speculate about mysteries in the story is a great thing, even if I don't really play the game anymore (still waiting for SAB).
    Edit: Hold on a second, no ghosts in Cantha? Have you forgotten Tahnakkai Temple WP? And there's sort of a spiritual link, what with Ritualists and all.

    I wonder if the magic we corrupted in fighting Zhaitan is actually similar in the way to another dragon's corruption? That could be why it was so effective in bringing down Zhaitan. It distrupt the integrity of Zhaitan's magic that empowers it til it ultimately could not function anymore.
    Still doesn't explain why Teq grew stronger in the living story, but it could be that whatever remains of Zhaitan was consumed by his minions and whoever consumed the most would likely be the next Zhaitan reincarnation.
    On orbs, I was thinking that maybe it acts like a territorial marker? If not some kind of relay for the dragon to detect magic or something. And who knows if the seventh "dragon" could be Tyria itself, creatures within it such as humans, norns and the likes are the collective entities of the dragon?

    Someone who agrees that scarlet may end up the hero (in some way)! In Scarlet's journal she says she wants to defeat this voice in her head change things, but in the end got corrupted.
    So I totally agree that maybe she wanted to be the hero, but failed. However, I can see us as the player characters stumbling upon some old note from Scarlet teaching us the secret to kill Modremoth, and fulfill her plan to be the hero, when she failed to be it herself due to the mind control ( I avoid saying that Modremoth entering Sylvari minds is corruption because it doesn't seem to follow the regular conventions of corruption (like mutation and stuff. EX: Sons of Svanir)).
    Or maybe, just maybe, the only reason she failed to be the hero was because we killed her before she could enact her full plan. (all the more reason to be angry that Braham cut her off when she was gonna tell us her plan, maybe there was more than just waking the dragon up?)
