Gw2 Storytime - Marjory's Story: The Last Straw

- Today a story I missed about one of the most mysterious/important living story characters! And no - I don't mean Marjory herself. Also some stuff about other MMOs I'd love some thoughts on at the end! Enjoy all (reuploaded because of my being a noob earlier)
Bria is an evil necromancer ghost so powerful she fought off the foefires corruption. She's in an event chain in the iron marches.
I deleted and reuploaded it because I messed something up.

ur vids are the only reason I have any sort of interest in the GW lore. I never cared about it but oddly enough I still watch your videos about it with alot of interest.
I love the fact that there are sooo many stories in this game that are left untouched, at least for me it keeps me guessing, always thinking that the current one will link with another! its awesome =D
Definitely do the MMO talk, it would be good to get your ideas on it all because I know for me personally i've had many a talk with friends regarding MMO's upcoming in particular wildstar and how it will effect GW2 how good of a position GW2 was in with 6 months without competition to really get set etc
Indeed! I also liked that Marjory ''lacked the wit'' to come up with a good response. A small character vulnerability, it was nice.

I had missed this story as well. What a fantastic tale. I had no idea she was a necromancer.
As for the MMO video. I would enjoy listening to it. There will of course be fans of those up coming titles who will disagree with statements, but that isn't new. :)
I bet E is Lord Faren.
Evidence so far:
1. He is a former Minister who steped back out of "personal reasons". In this story we see that E is defnetly enlightened about all the stuff the ministers and the guard is doing.
2. He is a "Price student of combad" trained by Swordmaster Bongo the One-Eyed. He is probably a perfect fighter, disguising himself as a rather fool at fighting.
3. We don´t know his full name, or evan if Faren is his First or Family name. possible that the missing name starts with an e.
4. He is a reacouring Charackter throughout the personal AND living story.
5. The gentle touch around Marjory, hints also at him, the most prominent "lady lover".
6. On queen Jennas side. (He tryes to reque her, despite not knowing she was a clone he tryed to resque)
I think that's a very intelligent sentiment.
Only 2 mins in, but I wanted to say, I believe that Arenanet have treated the previous year of story as like a garden, planting many seeds.For example, many new characters, multiple enemy groups, and that there is no single overarching theme to it ALL. In fact I believe Marjory Delaqua, the Consortium, etc. all represent individual plants in the garden that Arenanet can use in the next year to tell more stories. I dont think that we should expect one giant final episode connecting it all.
The audio quality from the newest video to this one was jarring. Not your fault but, my how far you've come WP :).
WP, in the first book "Ghosts of Ascalon" there is mention that necros are somewhat ill-looked. When the sylvari necro of that first book uses the corpses of the recently killed ebonhawk guards when they were escaping the city, this is mention briefly. =)
To add to the discussion of aether and ether, I am familiar with physicists using aether as a means of explaining how light is capable of maintaining the same speed from all relative viewing points. From my adventures in gw2, I naturally assume that aether simply comes to mean 'in between'.
Furthermore, upon analysis every applicance of aether or ether can refer to both. Ether Feast for example is the renewel of your energy by devouring the Mists' energies. Lore describes the Mists as floating islands in ether. Aetherships use the ether as fuel, that same magical element/energy. Shooting out an Ether bolt quite literally shoots a part of that magical energy. If you'd look at ancient greek and medieval science, you'd find a term exactly like that.
It was believed that Aether (interchangeable with Ether) was that which fills the air above the earth (keep in mind the geocentric worldview). It was a medium of explaining gravitation and as such was seen as the fundamental building block of the universe. In greek mythology it doubles as the essence which gods breathe, like "godly air". Good video nonetheless, keep them coming mate ^^.
Woody, this is a very interesting story indeed. Quick remark though; I do not see a difference between aether and ether, in English they are largely interchangeable (like Daemon on demon). I think in the guild wars universe they are too. Aether would be one of the basic elements and energies the mists are made of. See it as Lego: Aether is the blocks which can be warped in numerous ways, the mists is the box containing the blocks.

I don't think it quite discounts the Charr. Asura wouldnt be tall enough for sure. But an ash legion charr could certainly do what is described here, at the very least. E could be a norn too!
Very cool story that makes necros much cooler sounding than in game.
One thing I like about GW2 as an mmo compared to other mmos that I've played is that regardless of whether or not I take a break from the game, I always know what I want to do with my character. For example, I know that I want to be saving up gold and materials for the upcoming Ascended armor crafting, or working towards kraitkin now that I've finished Incinerator. In other mmos I've often felt lost after spending some time away from the game, like with the introduction of cygnus knights...
Fresh new content with living story introducing new region in Tyria would be so welcome for new and old players, it would be so nice to travel somewhere we`v never been discovering new things and doing new stuff!
The race with the most intimate connection to the Mists atm is the Norn. I nearly missed a huge part of their lore by not playing all their personal story options because I thought the "Defend the Mists" option was going to be WvW related... it's not! It reveals how the norn havrouns can physically step into the mists at will and wonder around in the spirit world for a while before creating a portal to come back. Humans needed avatars of the gods to do what some norn can manage personally!
i think aether is the magic involcing death and different dimensions like in the fractals where the fractals are unstable because something is consuming the aether

GW1 was exciting but i never had the meat to get to the end. But thanks to your videos i was able to experience the amazing story and universe of Tyria.

It could, but it doesn't since at that time he was still locked in his box. We were the ones to set him free a couple of days ago, so he can't tie in.
What else were we expecting? Also, Scepter of Orr sounds good. I'd really love a story about Livia, considering how she was brought up in the sea of sorrows book.
Ether from gw1 simply referred to the ability of mesmers to manipulate energy, either taking and destroying it within another magic wielder. Which calls into question why is it just mesmers, which makes me wonder why there are specific classes of magic at all, and if magic is a foundational element, or is specifically oriented.
I like that idea actually....but part of me is hoping that as those seeds grows into plants they and up entwining a lot plants always grow towards the sunlight, Deep down I think we can see some significant storylines coming together in a big way. But alas we shall see =)

Thats a good point actually, you're probably right.
Re: other MMOs - GW2's long dev time and manifesto definitely started a 4th gen of MMOs. Very few MMOs these days are direct responses to WoW - most of them, WildStar being a good example, are responding to GW2 by walking back some of the changes that didn't work, while EQNext took GW2's success as permission to push even further. Third gen was unusual in that WoW was the only game in town; there'll probably be a reversion to games focusing on their audience rather than winner-take-all.

lol all i remember about the dragon bash event is lighting fireworks and collecting lots of useless stuff to get those dragon wings :p
I'd say that Dynamic Events would be the ideal tool for linking a new Living Story to the existing body of lore. Sadly, DEs have yet to live up to their potential as a narrative vehicle.

Marjory and us will find Canach while we research this stuff and he will help us to mess with Scarlets plans. After that Marjory will help to hide Canach because his help was awesome or something...

Re: Cut Scenes. I'd like to be able to track unlocked Vistas, Personal Story, Story Dungeons (so I can track which toons have which Dungeon unlocks) through a Chronicler NPC in your Home Instance. It can take the form of a specific item, like a Norn Storyteller, Human Town Crier, Charr Monument, Asura Holotank, etc. or specific "trophies" for each category of cutscenes found throughout the Home instance.
Will I see it anytime soon? Unlikely.
I'm not sure how it works, but WP should consider looking into Polaris. This guy has talent, raw natural speaking talent.

Teq is not an Elder Dragon like Zhaitan was, like Glint was an Minion of Kralkatorrik. Same thing with the Shatterer, he is an Minion/Champion of Kralkatorrik, just a regular Dragon subverted to servitude of an Elder Dragon.
Zhaitan was far larger in size and power than the other Dragons we have come across in the game so far, though they didn't really do a good job showing that perspective properly. There is a debate of whether the Dragons we can kill actually die and are being replaced or not
The only thing they need to be careful about is not having it feel too much like a convoluted, disjointed mess.
Yes, it is "realistic" (fantasy video game or not), that there are multiple, possibly completely unconnected threats popping up,
but it shouldn't feel like this Charr Storyline in the Personal Story where you look for a treasure for like 5 episodes that's never mentioned or heard of again - and then suddenly Dragons and Orders out of nowhere !

The words aether and ether in English are completely interchangeable (the ae is actually a distinct "single" letter which is hardly ever used any more) and both refer to what ancient thought assumed was the "air" of space. I think you're quite right in that in Tyrian lore (a)ether could refer to the substance of the mists which, like petrol perhaps, can be used as a fuel. Unlike you though, I don't think there is a difference between aether and ether beyond 250 years of language changing.
EQ Next is a ways off, its projected 2014 release right now, but based on how little we've seen of it, and how MMO development goes, I don't expect it to be fully released a day before summer 2015. GW2 has plenty of time to get its proverbial act together before EQ Next.
Twitch numbers are something thats very telling and somewhat worrying to me, I really want to see GW2 get on the front of twitch more regularly, but it often hovers around ~150-~400 viewers.

I always assumed aether/ether was used to refer to the air, the open space around us.
... in Maplestory, I wasn't sure what was going on and if my current characters were underpowered. The uncertainty led to me just quitting the game. This is just something different I've noticed about GW2 however that might just be due to the fact I stay on top of what is going in GW2 more than I did for other mmos I played.
I would love to watch this video comparing gw2 with the upcoming mmos , please make it happen
As far as what E might be I am leaning toward the thought that he is a human or sylvari,As to it being a norn maybe. but the way the encounter is written would make me think other wise. Norn tend to be bigger and would have a larger "physical presence". Then again I could be way the hell off too,lol . As to doing commentary on other MMO's , hey why not? If you enjoy doing it then go for it.
Spellchecking software is rarely perfect. To check that I wasn't talking out of my arse when I made my initial point, I checked in the Oxford Dictionary (Concise and Shorter ... it appears in both) to make sure of my facts.

While other people get on you for mispronunciations, I'd like to say thank you for pronouncing "Aether" right. My dad says it as eether. and it's something that bugs the hell out of me. Any thing else I'll say whatever, but eether... no, that's just not right.
An Asura could have used some sort of magic or device to disguise him/herself as a human or other race. Why not? I mean, if he's trying to be as secretive as possible, would it not make sense to be as anonymous as possible? Don't count out the shorties and their massive brains!

There's something I've been wondering. When the Gods left, did they return to their realms in the mists, or go somewhere else? Because that means their realms are left with no leader.
so by the virtue that aether is the magic of the mists does that mean aetherblades travel through the mists? come from the mists? Does that mean the bazaar of 4 winds people also travel through the mists?

I would love to hear your thoughts on GW2 compared to the other mmos. TESO seems to be a bland WoW clone with an Elder Scrolls skin. EQ Next sounds awesome but we don't have much info on it. I know almost nothing about the other upcoming mmos. DO EEET.

The first time you said 'E' I heard 'Eve', as in Eve from GW1. She was, after all, a necromancer. I am sure she is dead, but could she come back as some sort of entity? Possibly?

I may be wrong here and its just my opinion. (I've not checked any facts) But i think "E" was/is Ellen or Evon. Depending on who the player base voted for would determine who this character was. "we" (the player base) voted for Ellen and (to me) this means shes now going to be a bad guy and Evon was the good guy all along. And the exact opposite would have been true if we'd have voted for Evon instead.

I kind of wish they would add more content to the cities. Some personal profession RPG like quests that we could play with interesting stories like this. Guess this will never happen. Sadly I didn't enjoy personal story at all, specially closer to the end where the story became less "personal".

A few things we might be able to infer from this:
-E is probably Human, or possibly Norn. Presumably, Marjory would have noticed otherwise.
-We can *maybe* infer that E is male, judging by the "deep voice" description, but the story doesn't ever explicitly specify gender -- in fact, it seems to go out of its way not to use gendered pronouns when describing E.
"My-my lady!" Faren said as he was pushed on the bed. "What's come over you?"
"Hush," Kasmeer said. "I'm...fact finding. I'm here on Marjory's orders after all."
He blinked, immensely surprised. "But...but my lady-"
"Hush," she said more softly, approaching. "I'll need to investigate you...thoroughly...."
Now there's a story that could give those two some more character...or at least a fan fiction.
