【この曲について】
リフの部分の鶏の鳴き声が印象的なこの曲のテーマは「警告」です。
土台になっているのは新約聖書の最後の晩餐（the Last Supper）です。
イエス・キリストが十字架に掛けられ処刑される直前に弟子たちと最後の食事を共にした際、ユダ（Judas）を名指しにせずに、この中のひとりが自分を裏切ることになると語ったあの有名な場面です。
曲の中でボブは巧みな比喩表現を使って自分の利益のために他人を利用する偽善者や寄生虫に対して警告を発しています。
彼らは私欲のために我々に近づき、友のふりをして我々を利用し、苦境に立たされたら即座に我々を見捨てるだろう。
ことわざとパトワを駆使してボブはそう語っています。
繰り返し聴かずにはいられない謎めいた歌詞が魅力の知る人ぞ知る名曲です。
【和訳について】
歌詞だけでなく翻訳全般に関して言えることですが、「唯一の正しい答え」というものは存在しません。
「訳す人間の数だけ答えがある」というのが翻訳本来の姿だと思います。
そして、時間の経過と共に内容理解が深まったり、意味の取り違えに気づいたりもするものだと考えています。
この和訳も現時点での訳者＜ないんまいる＞がこれでいいんじゃないかな？と思うバージョンです。あとで修正したくなるかもしれません。
そう感じたら、手直しして訳詞に反映した修正版動画をアップロードしていくつもりです。
