This gentlemen did a fantastic job putting this replica together. You are lucky to have been able to experience it. Most people would give their right arm to get a shot at driving this. Good for you Magnus! Keep stories like this coming!
Next best thing. Go invest in a decent VR headset, gaming PC, force feedback wheel, and Assetto Corsa game. You can drive this car and many more. Not the real thing but the closest you can get. This car around the Nurburgring is awesome.
@@TheHoser82 I agree, not as the real one but most definitely very fun
not a 917 replica - flat-12 is MIA
more of a frankenstein's monster restomod
@@shaft9000 what engine does your 917 have?
@@caddydave RIGHT?!?! These clowns always want to rain on people's parades and then drive a minivan every day.🤡🤡
What a beautiful tribute to the 917. You wouldn't believe how small the 917 is in person. A 914 is just about as big. The 917 always looked so large in photos and film. I saw my first 917K at the very first Rennsport Reunion at Lime Rock Park back in the day. Got to say hello to Norbert Singer as well!
I was there. I got a ride in the Brumos Porsche with Hurley Haywood.
Holy crap. I've never seen a 917 in person but I have seen a 914. Its hard to grasp that a car the size of a 914 hit 230+ mph. LOL. I met a guy who won the Daytona 24hr Race in his class while in a 911. And the most mind blowing thing I remember talking about is he said, accelerating and doing 180 or so on the straight away was the time he could calm down, relax, check the gauges, take a sip of water until the turns came back and it's probably the same at LeMans, the straights are the time to relax a bit even doing 250mph plus. Thanks for putting the size of the 917 into perspective for me. I have yet to see one, even a replica in person.
yeah all the prototype cars look so huge but they are actualy tiny
Low, long and wide
I've seen a few in person during the Jim Clark Revival at Hockenheim....... awesome car.
Norway is absolutely beautiful. That waterfall in the background looks so cool. What a absolute masterpiece this man has made 👌🔥
it gets better and better as you go further north, too. People talk so much about the Oslo-Bergen rail trip, and it's great, but the north... incredible. Go see Lofotodden National Park.
Valhalla
So so so honored to have been a part of this. Making magic in the mountains. 🫡 Next time, LA!
Would you mind sharing what frame you started with?
This was so much fun to make😁
@@simonbeylin1069 I did not build the car, it I’m fairly certain it’s a a custom built tube frame.
Not LA please
@@KyleMeyrplease any information on How to run a transaxle transmission upside down? Mods required?
It is great that the world has eccentric people with passion such as these two.
The original is arguably one of the best looking sports cars ever build, and to me this even tops it because the dude made it so he could drive it on the road. Some of the footage almost looked like CG, too good to be real :D Fantastic!
Not only best looking, but with 1588 HP on 800KG, it is the fastest racing car ever! The 917/30
Ahhhh! To drive a 917... it's on my bucket list! This turned out to be a great recreation. Thanks for sharing with us, Magnus!
yes true but this car is slower than old 911 unless they are sandbagging due to regulations.
@@hagestad I don’t think you watched the video. 1000kg and “only” 3-350hp is still a much better ratio than any old 911. How much power does your 917 have? :)
@@caddydave ? You do realize that some of those old 911 weighted as low as 800kg and had similar power? Don't get me wrong its still ca cool car but nothing really faster than 911 cars of 1970s.
@@hagestad 800 kg and 300+ hp? I don’t think so.
@@caddydave 1967 911R was 800kg. 1984sc was also very light and about 250hp. So if we mix and mach different parts from porsche like they did with this 917 you can go about as fast in terms of acceleration using stock parts.
My dream Porsche to have, even as a replica. And this one is to die for.
21:00 That shot is insane, a 917k replica driving in a snow landscape. Just stunning.
🙌🏼🙌🏼
that was my thought exactly. i woulda got a lot more rolling shots.
I drove the very same roads together with my son, in my 66beetle, and stayed at the same Laerdalsoyri Motorhotel . EPIC! (And I am born and raised in the fjords of Norway, but the scenery amazes me every time)
There’s something about building your own version of a special car. I built my own 997 GT2RS over a 5 year period from a 997 Turbo. Not as amazing as this car of course but building the car involves staring at images of the original and trying to find out if you can buy or have made the same item for your car. Great experience.
Best episode ever.
Magical scenery, to say the least, in an epic ride.
this is mad! the 917 with the atmosphere of the norvegian roads is insanely cool!
Absolutely unbelievable. Watched every second.
The precision, passion, and time taken to painstakingly bring this car to life as close to original as possible but also make the completely custom changes is beyond amazing.
Out of over 800 channel's that I follow, this is some over the very best on CZcams!
More please.
Video of the year...Totally incredible....I would listen to you 2 all day long....Respect gentlemen..And Magnus, you asked ALL the right questions...Wow...
917 OPP Let’s go!! Glad to be a part of it!🔥🔥
What a cool owner, letting drive that beautiful creation real miles, thank you for the vid
What an incredible piece of engineering and what an honour to be able to drive it and experience such a wonder. This has to be one of my all time favourite videos on CZcams full stop. Awesome Magnus. You are a very special man. Well done Knut for realising your dream
Amazing car and a great video! The 'name' behind the German flag made me chuckle. Schnellfahrer = fast driver.
It's actually a movie reference to the old stop-motion animation film Flåklypa grand prix (Pinchcliffe grand prix in english). One of the competing racers in the movie is called that.
@@ultramcnuggies1195 You learn something new every day. Thanks for the heads up!
Thank you Magnus with the dialog and your listening abilities to the owners of theses amazing motorcars. This time you went up a notch... A 917 Built for use on the road, epic mate and with passion from the ground up. And you're able to drive in Norway a Mountain w/Owner. Excellent. From Portland, Oregon. Formerly from Orange, Orange Calif.
Somewhere on CZcams there is a video of a British company that can make you a replica 917. They have digitised the whole plan and were also going to reproduce the flat 12 engine. However, this replica is a testament to the owner's drive for perfection and ambition. Magnificent and I am so envious. Kudos to Magnus Walker for his intelligent questioning as well.
That there is nothing short of a DIY Masterpiece! Absolute genius!
Epic clip and awesome build. So informative and the scenery to die for. One of you best Magnus!!!
Magnus, you Rock! Love your passion and reviews...always top shelf!! Beautiful car, setting, noise, production...the list goes on!
Idk whats prettier, the car or the location. Great video!
I live vicariously through this content 👌🏾
Unreal. Love the passion to build such a wonderful car. Interesting, informative and enjoyable video.
Finally! Been waiting for this episode Magnus! Was cool seeing it live 💪🏼
Great video and interview just as this work of art deserves. Nice sign of respect to return with a full tank Magnus!
THAT was F’n cool. Now I want to visit Norway.
I’m just stunned by the level of detail here. Godsmacked! I don’t care if this is a replica. He had Porsche factory help and it’s as close to the factory car. But better it ways safety wise, I believe. Seeing this car on those fantastic Norway roads was mind blowing. I would have felt like I was in the real car. What was baffling to me at the end of this video Magnus stops off the road at that weird looking hut and going swimming in a lake in the middle of winter. What was that all about? A Viking thing? Now I’m wondering if Magnus’s roots are from Norway. Truly an amazing video!
The hut was a sauna. So heated up quite a lot. That gives you time still personally hot body to get to and in, and back out of the very cold water. To me watching that sauna section I think he had to keep the heat down to not fog up the camera lenses. He didn't act highly heated/ sweaty. Nor did he have sweat all over and steam rising as he walked, oddly slow, to and into the cold lake. (In other words, while wanted to, Magnus ended up not really taking much of a sauna.)
Another possibility why Magnus didn't actually get a sauna: The folks who were supposed to heat it didn't show up/ didn't get the word. He couldn't then wait 2 hours for them. Had to return the 917, catch a flight... So he tried to make it look like he had a sauna (but zero steam rising showed he didn't). Magnus took a shower at the motel and...
Thanks for the clarification !@@carlcushmanhybels8159
Awesome build , can only imagine the smile you get driving this .
Well, that was probably the best video I've ever seen on anything Porsche! Thanks Magnus, you are the Man!
An amazing build. There isn't a question from Magnus that he cannot answer. More than impressed! Kind of cool to see the Esso name... haven't seen that in the states since I was a kid. (For the record, I never use Exxon/Mobil gasoline).
I need the prints for this car.
You crazy guys give me goosebumps, really from start to finish 😊
Ok, I typically don’t like replicas because… they’re not real. But that opinion changes when it’s a LeMans car built using the original factory Porsche specs. That’s pretty sick.
This car is awesome, the level of work and attention to detail is next level. It’s close enough, and managed to adhere to pretty restrictive rules.
Love this so much. Owner is a legend.
Arguably this is better than original. All the weight savings from CF body were spent on a much stiffer frame.
Perfect job! It is a pleasure to see such a great car in this environment. The pictures and shots are done so much well, that you can watch the whole movie again and again. Magnus - you perfectly do fit to this car! Thanks again to the owner to share his built! Well done!
I don’t have the words to describe what a cool car that 917 is, cooler than the snow capped mountains in the background. Excellent work Magnus, truly excellent.
Absolutely epic video and the gent that built this should be extremely proud of what he has built
One of the most unique cars and locations. Inner child is real in this one. Rock on!
Memory in front of my 1970 in Le Mans ... Pedro Rodrigues leading after start on Dunlop Bridge - is brand in my soul !!!
Fabulous car! Thanks for showing!

My favorite Porsche. Great job, beautiful rendition, I'm sure it's an absolute blast to drive!

Wow, this is a piece of art! Amazing build!
This is beyond cool. Incredible car and the most stunning scenery. I want to visit Norway!
What a cool build! Props for the owner for pulling through! Nice interview Magnus, would have enjoyed a section of the video of only pure driving without any talking ... otherwise, pure perfection, definitly made my day 😀
Thank you for allowing us to vicariously share your experience.
Fantastic build and video! A real banger.
WOW! Just wow! What a build and what a fantastic experience. A taste of the past. 👌
Absolutely bloody EPIC! Thanks to all that made this
Very cool. Love the attention of detail he went through.
This was fantastic. Magnus kept on coming with the questions, I appreciate that he was quite thorough. The 917 is one of my all time favorite cars. Easily one of the greatest cars ever built.
Porsche. There Is No Substitute.
Beautiful, so much passion and soul! It's not the real deal but it's almost as epic!
I was just in Norway for a 5-week-long road trip (incl. Laerdal) - but in a camper. The roads and the nature is simply incredible, would have loved to have my 944S there, let alone a 917 🥰
Awesome video! Scenery is so beautiful!
Cool car, a great story. Thanks, Magnus!
beautifully built, the car that is, ;) wonderful vid, these are just getting better and better!
Spectacular 👏 and the background🔥 another amazing episode Magnus!!👏
Another amazing experience. Wow.
To me, the most beautiful race car of all time. Jaguar XJ13 and Lola T70 right behind it. Thanks for a great vid.
I have just discovered your channel and the quality of the video with narration is amazing!
Wonderful video Magnus and what a great car!
There are iconic race cars among enthusiasts. The Shelby Daytona, GT40, 956, Lotus 72, McLaren MP4, Lancia Stratos, Tyrrell P34 and no doubt the 917. When I was younger and race 12th scale RC cars, it was the 917 body I always used. It was the best looking (IMHO) and the most efficient. This is a wonderful re-creation of the Gulf 917. Well done!
Blown hemi powered '41 Willys coupe 🇺🇸
Incredible car, Incredible story, Thanks to share Magnus
Ever been to central Kansas?? Yes middle of Kansas??? There is a road legal 917 driving around there as well!!! Nothing but flat farm land and a flat boxer engine 917 out driving that land it’s a beautiful thing to see and hear!! Not the place you’d ever expect to see a 917 driving by even more crazy to see it there than Norway!
WOW, that is AWESOME! What a cool idea and well executed build!
Wow that was a great experience. Can wait to see the rest of these videos.
You truly are a outlaw...Thank you
Absolutely Epic! Love it! Great Craftsmanship!!!
This is really a beautiful piece of engineering. It brought back many memories of my time at JW,, Automotive in Slough as a young glass specialist I was responsible for the body mods to accommodate the wide tyre's. Another mod which has been retained is the air duct mid cabin in the roof exactly reproduced.
MEGA video, and absolutely outstanding car! well don top you, and to Magnus for taking us through it. BTW Magnus, you look eerily 'right' there in the final shot in the water .... ;-)
Fantastic!, such a build and backdrop to use it in .
Great video of a well done built 917. Just an absolute amazing looking car that I've always admired for its style functionality and performance.
Amazing content and what a project! WOW!
my algorithm brings me to see Gandalf driving frickin Lemans monster on road
Love it
Incredible build!!!
It was a pleasure to work with Knut on this car. A lot of hours on the phone. And breaking ground using pure magic to fit most of the components.
Omgeeee what a dream come true to be able to drive such an awe inspiring vehicle in a beautiful country
This is so lit.
A 917 in the snowy Mountains of Norway.
Unreal.
What a Blast!
Living the dream Magnus. ❤
What a legend, so beautiful!
Beautiful replication which is not only fantastic to drive but also educational to show people non common Porsche model. Great vid BTW as well.
😊❤😊 sick 917 that is so damn sweet Mangus keep up the good work bro can you do a very good job with the Porsche enthusiast keep up the good work and have a good day peace
Stunning.
