- This video is full focused on a beautiful Porsche 917K I recorded racing at various Peter Auto's events during the last few years, fielded in the Classic Endurance Racing (CER) championship.
The car is chassis 917-008 and it's considered to be the very first 917 with the 'K' designation (K stays for Kurzheck, which means "short-tail"). This exact chassis started its life as one of the first 25 completed cars to be homologated in 1969, all featuring a long-tail (Langheck) body, and it was only raced at the 1969 24h of Le Mans, together with other two 917s. Behind the wheel of 917-008 (painted white with a blue nose and featuring number 12) were Vic Elford and Richard Attwood, who managed to led the race for 18 hours but later forced to retire due to a gearbox/clutch failure.
After Le Mans, 917-008 was returned to the factory and subjected to Porsche’s long distance tests that checked the durability of major components. At the beginning of 1970, the first short-tail body's test was held using chassis 008, which later did an endurance test of the new front axle plus other long-distance tests ahead of the 1970 Le Mans race. During 1970, 917-008 was only raced at the Nürburgring and in 1971 served as a spare chassis for the Gulf Racing team. At the end of the season it was dismantled.
It was later bought and rebuilt by Freisinger. The car than changed hands a few times but it remained static in the various collections until in 2018 its current new owner decided to give it a new racing life, fielding it in various historic weekends by Peter Auto.
Watch it in action around Imola, Monza and Circuit Paul Ricard and listen to the iconic flat-12 naturally-aspirated engine!

This has to be one of the most brutal sounding Porsches ever made.
actually its not, there is a video czcams.com/video/wrKyL2KQ_OU/video.html
@@giratina_86 But that one's ugly :-/
@@dallesamllhals9161 the 911 turbo?
@@giratina_86 Oh no! The 911 lines = eternal beauty. BUT that vulgar dragster, the start picture, naaah ;-)
@@dallesamllhals9161 Liar
Probably my favourite racing car of all time. TIMELESS!
actually very nice to see how they still push these cars really good
That’s what racecars are tuned for, they start doing weird shit if you babysit them
917 it's either full throttle or nothing. Not designed to drive slowly.
The biggest, the most brilliant and the most beautiful racing car ever! Obviously it´s a Porsche! Stay safe!
Definitely not the biggest, it’s pretty small, but Ik what you mean lol
Agree
Biggest in termas of sportivity, design, reliability,we don´t forget that we were in the 70´s last century! Thank you for your coment! Stay safe!
Yeah .. The greatest and yet so tiny..!! 😍👍
"Biggest"? Smallest rather, in size, but huge otherwise.
Legend.....there's nothing more to say
absolutely correct my friend!
A timeless monster of a car
The most beautiful racing Porsche...and it is amazing how small it really is.
Indeed. I'm always amazed when simply comparing it to a 'normal' Carrera RSR, like at 4:22
@@19Bozzy92 Even that Carrera RSR is small too!
Small in size, but a great, magniicient and powrerful heart!
Good to see it's not rotting away in a collection. This old lady can sure rock most cars on track.
Most badass race car ever made ! So dominant in every iteration, from the 600 hp Le Mans version to the almost 1400 h.p. Can Am spider , unreal .
There's one of these at the Simeone Foundation Automotive Museum in Philadelphia. Defintely awesome to see in person.
I’ve been there, tons of cool cars
Lovely collection...near the Philly airport
Excuse me I need to go watch "LeMans" again.
9:27 just perfect driving by 917 & cobra. Beautiful
You gotta love those long tail Flat 12’s singing. I never get tired of hearing or watching these legendary beauties. Even the modern Audi’s have to work to keep up.
Its a short tail. K in 917K stands for "kurzheck". The 917K was designed to eliminate the high speed instability of the 917LH.
If you dont love this car you're not a true racing fan!
100% agree 👍
The best race car of all time, the only one that is almost close to it is the Lotus-Ford 72D.
No I´m not a true racing fan, I simply follow the Endurance about 50 years ago, but I´m not a true racing fan... Thank you! Stay safe!
Like the car
That car is what can only best be described as a beast. And they’re being nice right now..
bozzy, you're THE man! Thx a lot!
No problem, as usual ;)
50 years later....and porsche still beautiful
I had the pleasure of watching the 917s run at Sebring back in the early 70's factory days. Incredible machine.
I was going to say imagine being lucky enough to see and hear it in person!
The single most beautiful thing mankind has ever created.
9:09 Uuuuffff... that was absolutely perfect!! What I love about Group C race cars and some other classic race cars, is that the sounds are like the rawest, purest, most analog sounds an engine can make.
Overtaking looks effortless in this car
Hands down one of the best racing cars ever produced ... What a machine !!!
9:09 made me make a double-take the first time I heard it, that shift sounded so phenomenal! Definitely one of my favourite car clips of all time
This Porsche 🤝 Gulf paint job
One of the best of all time.
See also the 917 LT painted in pink, "the pink pig"in Le Mans 1971 if I´m right, a true masterpiece! Stay safe!
The Epitome of the word "Racecar". A Legend, a Winning Legend.
Bozzy again with the fantastic content.
Glad you appreciated it!
I've said it before and I'll say it again;
I'm rather partial to the Ford GT40 but the Porsche 917 and the Ferraris, and others of this period, are the most beautiful cars to ever grace a track. Never again will cars be this beautiful.
Nothing looks or sounds like a 917 - the flat 12 down and up shifts are Beastly
One of the most evocative racecars with the most unique exhaust notes in racing history.
1m36sec. That Bosch mechanical fuel injection pump looks like a Cummins P-Pump! Massive!
Flat 12 symphony at it's finest. Thanks Bozzy
No problem!
This is the best camera work I’ve seen in terms of showing how small the 917’s are, and the best I’ve seen on the 917, period.
What an awesome sounding exhaust note when blasting by at high speed. Kudos to the owner for driving it.
This car defines as a race car
Huge respect to the owners of such vehicles for taking them out and allowing them to breathe fire once more.
By far the best compilation (same car) of the Porsche 917K ever. Been a huge fan of this icon since my childhood. Rugged, brutal, simple, reliable, and f'n fast! Remember back in 70, sports cars like the 917 were lapping tracks faster than F1 cars. Phenomenal!
The car is a legend and so is the livery 🏎️
One of my favorite race cars with one of favorite color schemes. Orange and blue is my favorite color combo, though I prefer orange and navy blue a little bit more.
I love the big fat tires you can easily see in the open rear end of the car. It sounds lovely as well. Awesome car.
Ferdinand Piech’s legacy 👍
Developed from scratch in just one year, undriveable at the beginning and THE race car eventually! What a masterpiece of engineering! Thanks for this footage!
This dude drives the shit out of this car, love to see it
Damn, what a car
You're name is my name lol
Arguably the greatest race car ever
Shades of McQueen and Le Mans. Quite possibly the baddest prototype ever. I mean this think looked the business. Thx!
I love the history of this masterpiece. I love the movie LeMans as well with Steve McQueen.
I love that this gorgeous speed machine has what appears to be napa trialer brakes for taillights lol
Just imagine, for a few seconds, being told to unleash this animal by your boss/team manager, because he knows you can manage it……As a car guy, who loves the period when THIS was what your team dreamt of being able to bring to any track, and then, as a driver, being told to find out what it can do…This is what I consider heaven. Strap me in, for eternity…..
The cleanest 917K hi res footage I've seen to date. Simply superb. Full stop.
Best looking race car of all time to me! So low and wide and aggressive and that wonderful engine. I'm a big Porsche guy but regardless I still think this is one of the greatest ever. Thanks Bozzy!
Totally agree with you, Jordan. Such a wonderful machine. Thanks for watching!
I know the 917/30 that destroyed Can Am was a ridiculous machine, which I have the highest respect for, but this is literally in my top 3 (race) cars ever created….. Such a legend.
Just like Steve McQueen
I still have a print in my bedroom of a picture I took of this very car at Dijon-Prenois ! It's was a joy to see it racing 😊
Man, what a car. 😍 And they were fast!
This is the most beautiful car ever made. It is the best sounding car ever. Amazing video.
Thank you!
Dont think so, that would be the Simca Matra V12, this sounds like an old clattering air cooled beetle compared to the Matra....but I love it anyway LOL.
When you see the frame work you really see how lightweight it is,, what a concept it was and is, truly marvelous car,, Derek Bell and others heroes,, from Northern Ireland ☘️☘️☘️☘️☘️☘️☘️
Fabulous video. Congrats!!!
One of the best sounding cars ever! Thank you!
You're welcome! Thanks for watching
I’ve been waiting for this video for a long time!!! THANK YOU!! Favorite car of all time!
Glad you liked it!
Thank you for sharing🖐️
I love this racing car ,specially in this Gulf livery
The most beautiful one ,ever 😎👍
Everyrev time this mech monsterkicks up the revs it gives me a mental"chubbie" 😊❤️😊
They don't make em like that anymore... Thanks for sharing Bozzy!
No problem! Thanks for watching, mate
Outstanding!!!! Thx for the post!!!!
The most iconic racing car of all time, I have never been particularly fond of covered wheels, since I was a kid for me racing cars were touring and sports prototypes and the Porsche 917 was my favorite.
In September 2020 I was invited to Monza to attend the races of the European historic car trophy and it is there that I was able to see that 917, truly exciting and breathtakingly beautiful.
Congratulations for the correct description of the history of the chassis 008, a particularly important example (the nose of the first series were, however, green and not blue).
Very beautiful and interesting as always your videos. Thank you
Awesome...as always!
Such a monumental race car.
I would be in nivara if I could have 1
Hmm. Musik to my ears!
not only did you see a 917K, you saw it ON TRACK and in the RAIN. Legendary haha
One of my favorite race cars of Porsche, great video!
Thank you!
The Best( 917k) and with a 911 Carrera targa- my 2 personal choices
"The Car" Legend..Beautiful
Grande Bozzy, super video per una macchina leggendaria
Grazie mille Alessandro
It could afraid lots of new generation's "drivers"... 😁‼️It's a legend, so nice, so symphonic and before all a "monster"... 👍🔥‼️💯🏁🏎️
Classic!! Awesome!!!
Questo meccanico che si prende cura di questa macchina è del periodo in cui era necessario avere conoscenze tecniche, oltre a molta sensibilità e intuizione. Devi essere un artista.
Great compilation, thanks
You're welcome! Thanks for watching
that sounds so good
That livery takes me back to watching this iconic car race on ABC's Wide World of Sports
Beautiful job editing!
Truly a powerful beauty, good one Bozzy
Glad you appreciated it!
Best sounding Porsche.
Splendide vecchie glorie,che ricordi🙄💪👍👻🤗
I remember having an AFX slot car of this Porsche 917. We're talking a looong time ago, so you know this is a classic
Stunning 😍..😎🇬🇧🏎
Super cool
The best AND fast car ever
Amo questa Porsche 917K
What abeutiful beast .
Baddest go-cart in the world!
this car is holy shit, great vid, 19Bozzy92 is like Tina Turner... simply the best.
hahaha good one, mate XD
Absolutely outstanding video of these legends, Bozzy! The sights and sounds you've shared with us are magnificent!👌🔥 Wonderful footage all around and as always, thank you for providing the great information in the description. Even us old guys end up learning something new with every episode. Cheers, mate.😄 Ciao.
Hi Mick, how's going? Thanks as usual for you kind comment and for taking some time to read the description, much appreciated :) Wish you a lovely day, my friend!
@@19Bozzy92 We're all doing well. Thank you, my friend.😄
The ultimate weapon if you didn't make any mistakes. Vic Elford and Dickey Attwood are both still around. What savages
I'm honoured... it has the same blue Bosch ignition coil as in my '65 Bug!
I think I can fall asleep to these sounds.
2024 and nothing has ever looked or sounded as fast as this car, ever.
The fact that it is air cooled is crazy
legendary
I got the 1st place in Panama driving this legend on GT7🔥
Pure Legend :o.....
I love the sounds! It's kinda unique. Almost similar to ferrari gto
Both 12 cylinder but s there aren’t really that many other similarities. The Porsche is a flat 12, the GTO is V12. Porsche is air cooled, GTO water cooled. Porsche has fuel injection, GTO is carbureted. And the Porsche is roughly 50% bigger displacement.
Power! (And, of course, a good driver)
Lemans was a great movie
Takes me back to Pedro Rodriguez and Leo Kinnunen winning the BOAC 500 at Brands Hatch in 1970 in atrocious weather. I was nearly run over by a spinning Lola T70 on the pit straight at the end of the first lap. I was there with some journalists in a Honda N600 and we were allowed to stand much too close to the track. The Porsche was the most spectacular but also difficult to drive racing car of its era. The Ferrari 512 were good too but less reliable and the T 70s sound was phenomenal.
The G.O.A.T.!!
Best car ever made.
