    a younger mans bias. a man over 45, financially well off, not thinking off how much noise a car makes, or kilometers per litre of petrol or cost comparisons. that's who this car is being marketed to! understatement is why i love this car. a younger man, under 35, with limited finances, and still some boyhood tastes, sees everything differently. i have a few million, i want the power,(better to have it and not need it), the comfort, i love flying under the radar, and as for cost, i'm sure i will die leaving money in my bank account! also this car is marketed to those of us who have several cars, not one or two.

      It’s a good point, similar position, tho I don’t want a turbo, if I want to go fast I”ll fire up one of my ducatis, I’ll take a Carrera 4. I really havent got the balls to drop 180 large on a car. I like the colour. 911s really aren’t my dream car either.

      Surely the Turbo S is the ultimate ‘compromise’ (in a privileged sense) car with unbeatable bandwidth for the buyer who can only have two cars - for parking/garaging reasons rather than financial. What else pairs this level of performance with an ability to sit in car parks without drawing too much attention?

    • @mahmoudghoneim8004
      @mahmoudghoneim8004 Před 5 měsíci +8

      A car enthusiast will always consider noise levels of a sports car and how fast it can go disregards of his age otherwise he would go buy himself a Bentayga and sure a sports car will never be your only car but you take it out when you are in the mood to get naughty.

      Agree. I have a 997 Turbo (less money 😊) and a couple of larger SUVs. However I just bought a very low mileage Abarth 124 Spider. The 911 Turbo is brutal but anywhere but a track the Abarth is more fun. I'm replacing the cheapest plastic bits (like the sun visors) but sometimes money can steer you wrong.

  • @RaviFernandez

    I recently got to drive a friend’s Turbo S over a mix of roads. As someone who has run base Carreras for over 20 years (a 993 and a 997), I have to say I was mightily impressed by it’s sheer competence. Impressed but not moved by the experience in anywhere near the same way I am every time I drive the Carreras. Made me think of a hefty sledgehammer versus pure and delicate scalpels.

    • @Docfroid
      @Docfroid Před 6 měsíci +8

      Dude. You just compared, and I’ll stick with the 997, to a turbo s. Scalpel? In the motor tend figure 8, where you need to be a scalpel, the turbo S did it in 22 seconds. 2 seconds faster than 997 Carrera. Nurburgring Nord track, turbo s bests the 997 by 40 seconds man.
      Take all that out and it still takes 20ft more to stop your 997.
      Now 992 a different story. Motortend figure 8 the base 911 only loses to turbo s by .2 seconds. But still loses on the nord track by 13 seconds. Still has a worse lateral g. 2 full seconds slower from 0-100
      All these cars are great for what each of us want. If you have the roads, want a daily driving rocket ship where you have many chances of feeling that acceleration and in control no matter the conditions, and have the $. Turbo s hands down every day. If you like rear wheel drive, and don’t have the roads, cash, don’t drive aggressive, well 911 base is your car. Still does 0-60 in 3.2.
      Gt3 is awesome. But not a daily driver at all. More expensive than a turbo s. But I can get it in a manual and it’s fun as hell. It is more raw. Honestly it’d be great to have the turbo s as your daily and gt3 as your play toy. If $$ were unlimited : )

    • @js002003
      @js002003 Před 3 měsíci

      Yah I was a bit disappointed when I test drove the 992 turbo s. Its obviously fast but kind of soft and still had some lag. Hopping back into my MC20 immediately after, the MC20 def felt faster mainly because it was lower, louder, better steering ratio, RWD, and more raw. At that level of speed and hp, I'll take the car that has the better driving feel and sensation of speed over the car that objectively has a slightly quicker 0-60 and 1/4 mile time.

    I own a 991 Turbo and can relate to this video. It is an amazing grand tourer. Comfortable, smooth and lots of power on reserve. Where it falls short is on that visceral feel. You feel very removed from the engine, chassis, and road. If you look at this car from a lens of refinement it’s quite amazing what they have achieved. However if you look at it from the view of an analog, focused sports car…the cayman is a better platform

      I have a 991.2 Turbo S. I don't find it feels removed from anything to be honest. Mine has a tune and exhaust, nothing else and makes nearly 700hp. To be fair, they did significantly upgrade the steering for the 991.2 and it has quite a bit more feel than the 991.1. I've done a dozen track days, and about the same amount of drag strip nights over the past 7 seasons and for me, it's terrific and gives me just the feedback I need because I'm acclimatized to it. It is RUTHLESSLY fast in the right environment.
      The exhaust gave it some soul / noise that the car needed. Hanging the tail out in a particular sequence of corners in my car is hilarious fun, people that tell you these cars have no soul etc. just aren't driving them fast enough because they have HIGH levels of competence.

    Great review. I'm still thrilled with my 997.2TT (PDK). I do use its performance (situationally aware) every day, and I like its low profile: quiet exhaust; tame aero; and the AWD reduces wheelspin, especially in Winter driving. 997's are more compact with more steering feedback (hydraulic). I do agree that poor fuel efficiency is a significant downside costwise, environmentally, with frequent fill-ups. I do miss Android Auto, and backup camera. I agree that its weight at 3700 lbs is a deficit. I opted for EVOMSit so I've got over 600bhp.

      What a statement. So just because you have a super car, you should not use public roads. I have a 2014, never launched it, drive it a lot and sometimes on open highways get it up to 110 as a great driver. I have seen thousands of cars pass me, so does that make them all bad drivers?
      Try to tell that to the drivers that have been drinking! And you worry about sport enthusiasts.
      In a week, I get the 2024 version, but it took a year and a half for the allocation, so believe me, it’s well worth it. We all have different opinions about cars, and unless you own one, able to afford one, or like your type, anyone else can tell you why you should not get one. I have owned many BMWs, and a Mercedes, but would never get anything besides the Turbo S. My opinion.

    Problem is…. The top spec 911 cars just perplex me on the “value equation”. As you say, it’s twice the cost of the entry 911 which at £100k more, makes one wonder, what could be possibly worth the extra. I love Porsche and have owned plenty in last 25 years. Same issue presented itself when looking to upgrade my McLaren 570 spider… the increased cost to a new 720 spider was over £100k… and I couldn’t justify that, so just bought a Ferrari California T instead which is a great GT car verses an out-n-out sports car. So now I have two cars that do different things for the price of one, and still some left over to get a GR Yaris to hoon around a track with impunity…😁

      I can tell you one thing: right now my car is 7 years old and yet I could sell it for probably $20K less than I bought it. That makes it cheaper to own than my diesel truck which eats tires and has issues every year when the 911 just soldiers on no matter how I drive it... and I take it to the track.

    finally someone has the guts to say the truth - the car has actually got too good for the current road legistlation and sensible saftety ! Good on you Joel, and good on Porsche supporting you. I've kind of given up on these videos on youtube, but this is refreshing ..... and I expect Porsche will come good with a GT3 (hopefully RS). I would be particularly interested in a video of you driving GT3 at the Silverstone experience centre as I am thinking of booking for me and my son as a treat, but I suspect the GT3 might have outgrown that facility as the 4S we both drove there seemed plenty quick enough !!

      I have a 2021 BMW S1000RR M package motorbike - 207bph and all the driving modes and features you have in a modern 911. The bike has way more power than I will ever need or use and I have only ever used one of its driving modes but I never think this bike is ridiculous and I was silly to buy it because its way too fast for me or the law. Just owning one of the fastest bikes on the road today is enough enjoyment for me. Id have that Turbo S in a heartbeat too if I could afford it even if I would rarely exceed the speed limit in it.

    Sorry but this is a TurboS ... flagship car. The issues you pick up are first world and the people who will mostly want to afford or can afford it... TurboS buyers tend to be the ones that want people to see thats what they can afford. And why say something in two minutes when you can say it in ten ..... please keep the potential to do a great review economical in length and cut down on the repeating ... otherwise well done. Try a CarreraT .... THIS may be your sweet spot 🙂

    Well done Joel, as an elder auto enthusiast and first time seeing you (already subscribed), I congratulate you on your assessment fitting the driver needs and behavior if on public roads. The GT3 is definitely a wise overall choice with the nominally aspirated engine singing at 9K. can become an addiction for some of us, lol, I go further and say I would absolutely go with the manual gearbox for that extra connection and experience, cheers! 👍

    Good review. I suspect the same 'less is more' opinion on what would be a better road car could also be applied to the 911 vs a (six cylinder) Cayman. You just need the self confidence to brush off the claims that you have a Cayman/Boxster because you couldn't afford a 911.

    Nice video but there is a glaring error in it PDDC does not stiffen the suspension. it is to stiffens the engine mounts to help in cornering (you don't have a moment of force on the rear engine moving in it mounts in the corner). So it does create a more jiggly ride on the straights but improves cornering.
    To stiffen the suspension you need to change the suspension modes (Sports and sports+).

    Decent video, although it’s obvious that you’re not a fan of the car. We all know that a super car can’t be fully utilized on public roads and we all know that the base 911 is a lot of car for the money. Before you say that the cruise control, the wipers or the CarPlay doesn’t do this or that, it might be a good idea to take a couple of minutes to look in the owner’s manual and see how these things operate, so you can prevent yourself from making false statements about them.

    • @itsjoel
      @itsjoel  Před 6 měsíci

      Was I wrong regarding the Apple car play and cruise control? I did look in the owners manual for these things and found no way to do the things I mentioned in the video 👍🏻

    • @ShamanWS6
      @ShamanWS6 Před 5 měsíci +1

      @@itsjoel Yes, actually. The car does Apple Carplay and depending on your options the cruise control does a variety of things. I own multiple cars and while mine does not have any of the radar cruise options I find it the best cruise system of all of them. Hold it in to jump up or down 10kph, it will brake to prevent the car speeding up much going downhill... etc.

    There's an east fix to the experience here. Get an exhaust. I own this car, I put an akrapovic exhaust on it and it changed the experience. It sounds mean and angry but not in a cheap way and yeah you can still drive the car in normal and have it be mostly quiet but give it a little boost or better yet drive it in sport or port plus and the car becomes an animal

    Hi Joel,
    Sorry, I'm a bit late to the party on this one! Firstly, thanks for the in-depth review of this stunning Turbo S. The cinematography of the video is top notch, especially the stunning introduction....well done!
    I totally agree that , for the UK at least, this car is just too powerful & the driver will never be able to legally utilize more than 50% of that performance. Much better to go for a Carrera , Carrera S/4S or possibly a GTS if you must have more power. This alone will save £1000s, even more if you opt for a good condition, used vehicle.
    The colour of this particular car is fantastic, but doesn't really come across that well on the video. I was lucky enough to see a similar Turbo S with a Sport Design Package in Aventurine Green on my last visit to the UK & the colour was the stand out feature.....if I ever have enough money to buy a 911, that is the colour I would want it to be!
    Keep up the great work! 👍🔥👍

      Hi Anthony... I am in two minds between buying a used carrera s/4s or just blow my savings on the beast... turbo s...
      I need a car as a daily... I love doing long distance driving, weekends away and I want a car that is good in city driving and that can eat up motorway miles for breakfast also
      My local porsche salesman says the carrera model is ideal for my needs
      My sister says get the turbo s... It has all that horse power and is one of the top models in the range
      Plus not many on the road
      Compared to the carrera models on the road
      Which car do you recommend for my needs??
