Three Pines - Alfred Molina TV series review
He's more than Doctor Octopus in Spider Man! The Alfred Molina crime series, Three Pines, is a wonderful television event with nuanced performances and themes evoking some great filmmakers. Molina's Chief Inspector Armand Gamache makes his case for a life of empathy and respect, while keeping the law intact. But when cracks appear in the veneer of his world, the life of this almost impossibly good man comes to a crisis point. It's a shame this series only saw one season, but it's a season worth your time.

The Breadwinner - Movie Review

Why is The Breadwinner our ST. Patrick's Day film this year? The Irish animation studio, Cartoon Saloon's 2017 feature is the story of a young Afghan girl who must disguise herself as a boy in order to survive while her country falls further under Taliban control. It's a strange choice for the studio who made Wolfwalkers and Puffin Rock! Or, is it... Support the channel: www.buymeacoffee.com/dd...

    1:25 oftentimes siblings of the deceased were married, simply to keep any business ties and money inside the connected families. Sad they did things for fear and money, rather than out of love. Sad that any of us have to do so so often that it becomes normal, a tradition... Okay, only a minute and a half in, and I can tell you GOT the movie, unlike a few other creators.

    I'm a 40-year-old female filmmaker, and watching "Husbands" sparked a longing for friendships as raw and authentic as those portrayed on screen. John Cassavetes is truly unmatched-a master of the visceral and the real!✨ It's astonishing that John Cassavetes and Gene Rowland aren’t part of the curriculum at some of the top film schools.

    I watched the movie. I also analyzed the main villain, Idrees a member of the Taliban who kidnapped Parvana's father. Also not to mention, since he is a member of the Taliban, it is heavily implied that Idrees has executed people before the events of the film. The way Idrees threatens Parvana's father is hinted that he actually did execute people before.

    I think that the confusion I felt after leaving the cinema was a good thing in the end; I felt as if I didn’t have the whole picture and I was right. I think that because of the english title I went into the theater with the wrong idea in my mind, idk why they changed it from the japanese one, a massive mistake.

  • @N330AA
    @N330AA Před 2 měsíci

    The story is actually supposed to be about loss. The author lost his wife to cancer and both his parents died in the years before he wrote the book. The Christmas element/Santa Claus was added to the TV adaptation against the wishes of the author, which does slightly detract from the theme but not ruinously so. But really the ending - rather than being a sad ending that could have just as easily been replaced by a happy one - is integral to the entire story and is built up to all the way through. If you look carefully you can see as they are flying back from visiting Santa, the snowman looks over his shoulder, sees the sun coming up, realises his end is near and expresses sorrow, but doesn't let on to the boy and maintains his joyous experience. I still at the age of 39 find it to be one of most emotionally triggering works in visual media. Probably because it's a children's film, rather than in spite of it.

    Thank you for this! As a Kaufman fan this movie is quite a question mark for me. I liked it but it didn't convice me but i loved some parts but i thought others were very messy and uninteresting. You explained your thougths very clearly and helped make a bit more sense of this film. It is an standar kids movie with a very honest message, i think but the film can't decide if it wants to be a brainy, deep, existencial film about fears, anxiety and growing up or a family movie with a clear cookie cutter final message.

    Best review I found so far! Thank you! This movie made me think for a while about the many cryptical messages in it & it shure is intended that way by Miyazaki. Maybe it is ment to be something like a Koan, what do you think? However, I could not get so close to the main character as for example Kiki. He stays quite uncomprehensive to me to the end. This is very often the case in Stories where the main character is only there to lead you through a phantastic environment that is the story, but a character you clearly sympathise with helps a lot to lead you through an environment that is mostly confusing, like Chihiro in Spirited away. Also Chihiro obviously learns something in this magic world, what is a bit vage in Mohito´s case. At least to me. Nevertheless I loved the movie & will probably see it again.

    • @DaddyDaughterMovieNight
      @DaddyDaughterMovieNight Před 3 měsíci

      That's a really interesting take on it. The sudden insights expected through a koan may be what the viewer experiences, placing them at the center of the experience instead of the main character? Mind blown...hoping to see it again as well.
