Composing with The Vortex
"The Vortex" a collaboration between Studioninedots and Synthetic State, showcased during Karper K's opening night. This installation is an exploration into how light can be used to instantaneously transform a space and the experience of its inhabitants.
It is powered by MAINFRAME-A, the brand new variant within the MAINFRAME family. This system has 14x modified MAINFRAME-Bs and the brand new "Mother" which is the master controller. As with MAINFRAME-B, this system is still controlled via MIDI in a similar way, but we are also processing audio to generate envelopes to add life to the installation.

Make your MAINFRAME system completely portable
zhlédnutí 174Před rokem
Here we have MAINFRAME MIDI Visualizer controlled by my iPhone. Now the crazy part is, all parts of the system are powered by 5V - meaning you can use a USB battery bank to power everything. This opens up a wide range of possibilities with everything so portable. More information of MAINFRAME MIDI Visualizer: www.syntheticstate.com/mainframe
AUM (iOS) with an LED Strip

Visualize anything MIDI from AUM running on iOS/ipadOS on an LED Strip using MAINFRAME MIDI Visualizer. It's very easy to setup and with this you have an ultra-portable and versatile live lighting system. I'm using AUM in this example but it will work with other apps that can spit out MIDI to an external USB-MIDI device. Imagine the possibilities! Check out MAINFRAME: www.syntheticstate.com/mai...
Piano LED strip visualizer

Piano visualized in real-time through two WS2812b (Neopixel) LED strips, using MAINFRAME-B MIDI Visualizer going through Ableton. The lights change based on the note pitch, velocity and the parameter values (customizable from the controller). More information: syntheticstate.com/mainframe
Exploring analog RGB with MIDI pt.2
zhlédnutí 518Před rokem
Here we have MAINFRAME-B MIDI Visualizer displaying on 12 duplicated 16x16 LED grids, with a digital piano connected to it through Ableton. The only "stimulus" going to MAINFRAME for visualization are the MIDI notes from the piano. The magic you see here is from MAINFRAME's built in modulation functions, which is what makes the lights come alive. Using modulation you can match a visual's hue, b...
Exploring analog RGB with MIDI

MAINFRAME-B MIDI Visualizer going to 12 duplicated 16x16 LED (ws2812b/Neopixel) grids, and we are playing live with a digital piano through Ableton. MAINFRAME expresses the MIDI notes through its analog core, which is how we get crazy patterns based on MIDI. Using modulation, we can vary the lights based on pitch and velocity - adding to the expressiveness you see here.
5pin MIDI Visualizer just launched!
zhlédnutí 426Před rokem
Since many have asked for it we have just launched MAINFRAME-B , which is the 5pin MIDI version of MAINFRAME-B, the expressive lighting controller. It can also use USB-MIDI but it also uses a Type A 3.5mm TRS to 5pin MIDI dongle to connect with other MIDI hardware. This also opens up the possibility to chain MAINFRAMEs together (like MIDI thru) by using a simple 3.5mm splitter. This was another...
How I built my biggest light installation (so far)
zhlédnutí 264Před rokem
This DIY light installation has 2,860 LEDs using two MAINFRAME-B MIDI Visualizers, which displays MIDI notes coming from Ableton. I'm happy to show how I designed and built the system to encourage any MAINFRAME users how they can expand their system creatively, to create their own light installations. Especially if you have a tiny bit of DIY electronics experience, installations such as these a...

When I try this with an ESP32-S3, everything is almost exactly the same for me but with just trying a simple hello world program, the serial monitor either outputs nothing or it says ESP-ROM:esp32s3-20210327. Do you know why its doing this? I tried doing the bootloader thing by holding the boot button and pressing the reset and then releasing the boot button, but it doesn't seem to change anything.

great video! gives me a great start for a project I am going to be working on, basically I want to add leds just above my piano keys then have everything sync up via midi. then I can either have it just light up as keys are pressed or more importantly when im using something like synthesia to learn to play songs as the program is telling me to play notes (it does midi in and out) the matching key will light up, I think it will really help with learning and help in cases where I have to spend a couple seconds asking myself What key is that? could also be a way to make some music creation fun, having some led strips that can react to pc midi going on. It's giving me all kinds of ideas. maybe led strips that then take midi info from a SC-55 while I play some classic PC games?

I've been wanting to do pitch-based lighting for my solo guitar sets. I was thinking about getting a MIDI pickup and working out something like this but in my case, the color wheel is aligning with the cycle of 5ths. C = Red, G = Red-Orange, D= Yellow Orange, A = Yellow, E = Lime, B = Green, Gb = Teal, Db = Blue, Ab = Indigo, Eb = Violet, Bb = Blue Magenta, F = Red Magenta. I definitely need to look into this method.
