How do you shoot Neopixels on video? (WS2812b LED strips)

  • Couple things I forgot to add in the video:
    - I don't necessary think overexposure and the blobs are bad, as they can be used to get a particular look or effect. Problem was when I had no other choice because I didn't know how to get rid of them.
    - All footage shot on the Sony are ungraded, because my poor laptop can't handle it. I'm using PP5, this profile seems to be the best for low light. By default, footage shot with this profile looks a little washed out/low contrast but this is ok given the contrast from the LED strips. The footage would look better with some color grading, though.
    - For the longest time I thought shooting in "low light" means you actually have low light. Camera sensors function best when given as much light as possible. It's better to intentionally darken a scene with in-camera settings or ND filters, versus trying to make the most of a tiny bit of light by boosting the ISO or in post.
