this was the era I most miss, upgradables for each chip, the cpu, media chips, and gpu, even my sound card could be upgraded with more ram for the sampler.

midi is very strange thing from 80s. Many game developers cancelled this crapy sound and selected wav/mp3 songs or CD audio music. A3D is nice and easy technology of surround sound but nobody knows why there is still simple stereo nowdays. I remember cheap LPT sound cards (Covox) with awful midi.

I remember the days when getting a new sound card for my PC was a real exciting thing. I think the problem is that most PCs have at least one sound chip onboard that is more than adequate for most people's needs now, so the market has pretty much vanished. At least if you don't want to spend an awful lot of money for studio quality hardware.. In fact, I realised I didn't really need a seperate sound card when I was watching the LGR video where Clint built his dream machine from 2004 (in about 2016 IIRC) and he used the sound card I had in my machine, a Soundblaster X-Fi variant.. So, when, a few years later, I needed to upgrade my PC, the new motherboard had no PCI slots, and I didn't bother to look for a PCIe sound card. If my current Motherboard had a PCI slot, and it was compatible with current versions of Windows, I'd likely still be using the X-Fi. I think the problem for me is that I don't play many retro games, and where I do, I'm generally happy with Emulation. I'm not bothered about original hardware, so won't be getting a soundcard for my early 90s PC (for instance) as I don't have an early 90s PC.. The only PCs I have are modern, and I generally use the sound on them for gaming or watching videos, which the onboard sound chip does fine.

Hi, I just got the one in blue! beautiful! however, when i try to run this thru my denon 4800h Pre-outs( front, surround height ects) it doesn't work right...I put in on my cd player audio out!1 it works great! is there a way to run it off my amp? Thanks!

I don’t have any old hardware so I use coolsoft virtual midi, and a sound font named Timbre’s of Heaven. Until now I have been using 3.4, but today I found a 4.0. The sound font is free and really high quality.
