- "Atari" is selling new Atari 2600 games in 2022? Yeah kind of! They sent me this copy of Aquaventure from 1983 to check out - a game that was never officially released as a cart, until now. And it glows! So let's unbox it and try it out on the Zenith TV in my retro room.
More info here: atari.com/collections/atari-xp
Very (pleasantly) surprised to see an article I wrote about Aquaventure in 2021 sourced and credited in the manual for this. As a lifelong Atari fan, I'm honoured. Even if they didn't tell me that they'd done that. :)
Bit strange they didn't go to the effort of contacting you, hook you up with a funky LED cartridge too
Gotta say that’s pretty stupid that they didn’t ask first, much less let you know at all. I’m at least glad you found out through this video but jeez Atari DO BETTER. 😑
Here’s the link for anyone interested moegamer.net/2021/01/28/aquaventure-the-game-that-deserved-a-release/
$50 for a 39 year old game with led lighting on the cartridge might be the perfect encapsulation of 2022.
You actually need to spend 150 to get the lit version
@@gameselectronicsrus3909 *Encapsulation intensifies*
@@genesisfan029 He didn't imply that.
@@PiroKUSS Oh, he’s just one of those “Yous don’t like like, yous ken git outta here” people. “We don’t take kindly to perr-spec-tive around here”.
@@genesisfan029 There's always one like you around. And nobody likes you. Even your mom thinks you're kind of a jerk. Think about your mom next time. She's a lovely woman and doesn't deserve the shame you're bringing her.
Now all we need is LGR Food revival 🥪
My lunch time has been getting boring without LGR foods!
Agreed, I need more sammich content!
I’d forgotten he used to do Sandwich videos until seeing this message.
@@JR-gl1nx And some of them were really great!
He actually has some cool cooking tips. ☺
Perfect setup. TV on the floor and everything. Memories.
Yup reminds me of playing SNES on a 80s cabinet tv we had in the baseman
Carpet in the retro room is gorgeous and suitably retro for a room with an Atari set up👍👍
Alllllll the shag
@@LGRBlerbs Any plans on showing off the retro room for an LGR video,or is it gonna be a Blerb?
As it becomes more complete, sure!
@@LGRBlerbs Awesome, can't wait!
It looks like someone skinned a Muppet family and made a carpet out of them!
That green shag carpet made me happier than it should have lol
now he just needs some wood paneling.
6:55 ...and LGR instantly teleports to my grandparents' living room with the green shag carpet, and nice enough to bring along his Arari to share!
That reveal sent me straight to my earliest memories, Clint.
Over time I have noticed the font size increase on boxes when it comes to games being released on old systems. Wonder if this has anything to do with the age of those who originally played the systems when they first came out.
Probably, but the larger font size means that it's easier to read for anyone, bad eyesight or not
Modern retro-marketing is just exaggerating the big and bold aesthetic of the 70’s and 80’s.
Thank you for actually opening it, too many people buy this stuff and shelve it and don't actually play the games.
WOW your retro room is almost a direct copy of my Grandma's house when I was growing up. A 2600 in front of a space command and that carpet! Even looks like the same color. I've got the 2600 but the pins are broken on #1 control port. Thanks for that brought back some great memories.
Dude that “retro-room” is unreal!!! Where does one even find shag carpet these days?!? Not to mention that zenith? So cool
I would have dreamed of such a cartridge in the late 1980s.
Early 80s.. in late 80s Mario had taken over the world
Incredible attention to detail in the Atari room. Wow.
Thanks, it's coming together nicely!
@@LGRBlerbs now you just need the ugly wood paneling on the walls
@@chhunter That is the plan 👍
Very happy to see two LGR Blerbs this week! Always enjoy these
Atari could be anyone. It could be you. It could be me. Damn! Even it could be my cat! Atari is a mistery and, probably, we will never know what Atari is.
Elvis is everywhere!
*Stares in horror at the retro rec room carpet*
WHAT THE HELL HAVE YOU DONE TO OSCAR THE GROUCH????????
😂😂😂😂
Don't worry it's the Grinch actually
As a kid I really enjoyed playing Aquaventure and Saboteur on the Flashback 2 and wondered why there didn't seem to be cartridge releases of them despite it...obviously being 2600 games.
Honestly that seems like a really cool game for what it is.
I would have spent a lot of time playing this when I was little.
Who else is glad this channel is back to having content posted on it
I guess Clint was too busy with moving and the main channel to do blurbs.
This reminded me of going to my family's friend's house and playing F1 racing on their Atari. Thanks for making me feel six years old again.
7:00 Wow, looks like my childhood. Need some wood paneling on the walls though.
Wood paneling is next on the decor agenda!
Love the aesthetic of your room. Reminds me of my childhood.
"Atari XP" sounds like a Windowblinds theme for WindowsXP back in the day... :P
The whole LED top thing is pretty neat. Not sure if it's 150 dollars neat though. And it probably should have been angled considering...
that INTEL camera in the background, it was the first ever digital one i ever had, i still have the pics in a folder, amazing quality for the time, man, the memories.
Man you gotta love the shoot noise in this.
That cartridge would probably look cool in the Atari Jr. with it being a more vertical top loader.
Can’t get any better! Atari 2600 game played on your grandmothers floor console TV! Love it!
I missed Blerbs a lot I'm happy it's getting videos again!
i like the setup, reminds me of the good old days of gaming with friends around the tv with a load of Atai games to play. i had that exact console.
I love the chip tune simulating a sonar ping. Totally took me back to the mid 80s! P.s. glad to spend my 40th birthday with you on an lgr related thing!!!
Aay, happy fortieth!
Thank you kind sir! Keep up the good work. If you're ever in Pittsburgh I know some great thrifts in the Area.
Awesome video, keep up the good work!
Im not as impressed with the game as i am the perfect atari setup i remember as a child... shag carpet with the old television sitting on the floor and me and my friends sitting for hours playing atari games... awesome bud!!!
I got this game on my Atari Flashback 2 that was released in August 2005 and still have it in my box and not only did it came with the Aquaventure (unreleased prototype) but also came with 40 build-in games and you can fine it for cheap on ebay or amazon.
That game actually looks pretty good, and the LED marquee is a nice touch if you have the console on top of the TV.
That's the only way one could see it really.
No.
It's funny, all the friends who had an Atari 2500 usually had it on the floor in front of the TV, maybe it got stored on top, but usually on the bottom if there was a shelf. But generally they got pulled out a few feet from the TV on the floor, and with the joy sticks you were now far enough back from the console TV that you weren't on top of the screen. Shag carpeting was the perfect type of carpet to sit on for hours, soft enough, and not just a hard floor.
God i want these carts so bad! I love that cover art, too.
Not going to lie. I love Atari of old. Grew up on that platform. Like you, I have recaptured a lot of my favorites from long ago with a handful that I can't get. To see these types of releases really makes me happy. Just something about them simplistic audio tones and such from those older games.
Loving the carpet❤. Had a morris ital van in the 80s completely lined in a fluorescent green version😁
I love your vintage setup 😍
I wouldn’t be surprised if Limited Run has had an influence on Atari putting these out. I know LR does Atari stuff from time to time. Heck, they might even be manufacturing these for Atari.
If nothing else, they got the “limited” part right, since almost everything was already sold out. 🤣
Very cool, im gonna dig out the 2600 and try to get this game!
The part sticking out of the top is just asking to fall off in random handling
More like get snapped off. However I suspect most these will either never be taken out of the box, or played once, and sat on a shelf as a display piece with all the other stuff in the box.
Used to love playing Outlaw in my grandparents basement with my brother when visiting them as a kid in the late 80s and early 90s. This seems like something I would have loved back then, didn't have many shooters without space ships. Give it a co-op mode it would have been better.
That setup brings back old memories
I think it would have been better if it had a transparent Marquee on the end of the cart, which lit up when playing
im lovin the retro room
I have the regular versions and apparently they out in the carts backwards. I do have a VCS collectors edition if you want to borrow it for a while.
Retro Room carpet is A++
The walls though... Needs some wood paneling! Also should probably toss in some Harvest Gold, Burnt Orange, and Avocado Green for posterity (carpet already counts)!
my god that shag. when i was a kid we had that exact type of carpet in our family room in a doublewide we had in Parma, Idaho back in the early to mid 80's
Dude, That shag carpet is awesome!
Man I love the green carpet!
The green carpet, the TV, man that brings memories... Thanks man
Holy sh*t. How did he find the carpet to my old bedroom in the 80's I grew up in? LOL
That green carpet looks so comfy.
ooooh! I'm digging' the 70s lime green shag carpet! Very groovy!
My grandmother had that green shag carpet growing up and she made us kids rake it when we visited her
I played this on the Atari Flashback 2+ and loved it
I must say, the lime green shag carpet is ON POINT!
I was thinking the same thing about Fathom right before you said it. I had Fathom on the 2600 as a kid.
Demon Attack is so good, my favorite 2600 game. Aquaventure looks pretty cool, I wish could buy it.
8:25 what a brilliant game :3 with a great soundtrack :3
That is awesome!
The cartridge looks cool. I do remember the game being on one of the Atari Flashback units. The gameplay though... let's just say the 1983 video game crash was inevitable.
They should do a re-release of ET. The Extra-terrestrial.
😂
No thanks 😅
They dug those up out of a dump a few years back in NM. Some of them in quite decent shape and playable. You can find them probably on ebay, but I know the person that spearheaded that project (in conjunction with a documentary that filmed the process) occasionally will put those up for sale/auction to help with a charity. I think he did that again recently, so maybe you don't have to pay ebay prices and just get them from the source.
Cool looking cart! I'd love to play the ROM at least..
Nicely designed cartridge
Wow, there's absolutely nothing not vintage in that room, at least in the corner in sight! (only exception would be the light coming from, I assume, modern floodlighting gear). Sweet.
"Do I need to touch the mermaid?" is not a question I ever thought I would hear. :D
Like mana from heaven! Another blerb! (Love the content)
Clint on an iPhone, I always thought he was an andriod guy. The blue bubbles got to him!
I use both. Also use both Windows and Mac.
Just like changing things up every so often.
@@LGRBlerbs Interesting, I really don't care either way. I was just being a goof. Thanks for the video!
The gameplay reminds me a lot of minigames from kids' MMOs like Club Penguin and Toontown. I'd bet that this prototype inspired those to at least some degree.
The "grass" carpet is fantastic.
The LED in the cartridge is the like the new hat on Malibu Stacy from the Simpsons. Smithers will want it.
Clint, your house must be a paradise.
Reminds me of Octopus on Game and Watch Gallery.
Clint it’s been too long since you threw the VCS some love!!
This is really, really cool! I wish it was cheaper, though. :(
PS: Are you using RF for your display or have you done the composite mod? It's a very easy mod that you can do yourself.
It's composite modded but the TV is RF _only,_ so it's being modulated back to RF.
@@LGRBlerbs I like how your using channel 4 as the input, we also had to use channel 4 because we had a local channel 3 over the air that would interfere otherwise.
Glowing cool
I see even LGR isn't safe from the phone upgrade hell of most tech enthusiasts 🤣
My first new phone in 3 1/2 years, I'm not _that_ deep into upgrade hell ;)
@@LGRBlerbs Ah then it's understandable, I'm one of those fools that can maybe keep a phone 2 years at best, but so far, there's no real replacement for mine anyway (except the newer model, Zenfone 9)
5:40 need to see a LGR battle vest
I decided to google the address listed on your shipping box as I also live in Pittsburgh and found that the address given for Atari XP is also the address for retro game company Mega Cat Studios. Maybe they're the ones producing these cartridges on behalf of Atari?
Interesting, could very well be!
That actually looks fun.
Seeing LapLink in the background makes me smile.
Only missing the 70's wallpaper!
So kinda like micro mages, flea and tapeworm fully boxed nes cartridges? Still have my nes from when I was a kid in the early 90s, 45 bucks isn't too bad for what you get from those new release cartridges.
Atari had the best explosion sounds
THAT LIME GREEN SHAG! 😮👍🏻 I approve. 😄
That’s awesome.
Love the carpet.. 🙂
Seeing that iPhone at the beginning, what do you think of the whole Dynamic Island so far?
It’s fine. Kinda clever at times! Wish it were smaller, I’m used to hole punch things on Android phones.
That is some THICCCCC carpet!
They are a touch pricey but damn they look cool though.... How is that hyperkin joystick? Just bought a modded Atari but only came with one joystick... Was looking at that but was wondering if it had any compatibility issues. Thanks
No issues, it’s a nice 2600 stick!
I love this game. Would have been a classic if it came out back in the day.
That shag carpet OMG Clint LOL
Noe your plating with power ! ATARI POWER!! 😎😀
You can buy new Atari 2600 games in the year 2022. What a time to be alive.
The lighting would look great if they just added a fogged acrylic top to the cartridge or just poked the LEDs through the cartridge
:D - expensive for what it is! (Some of the PCB's were put in backwards - you have one that is okay it seems!).
Nice game but that bushy green carpet looks really nice 🤘😂.
The most retro thing is that green shag carpet!
