- 4K capture of the 'flyby2' screen saver by Soji Yamakawa circa 1997/98. This was originally found on an old Lockheed Martin computer running Windows 95 but has been updated by the community to work on newer hardware. Captured on a Windows 11 PC!

Lots of you requested a standalone video of this screensaver in the last video, so I figured I'd take the opportunity to go 4K with it. Thanks to the excellent work by LGR viewers, this enhanced version now exists with support for faster CPUs, multiple aspect ratios, and resolution scaling up to 3840x2160 and beyond. The source code was also unearthed by the developer and is now on GitHub!

Lots of you requested a standalone video of the flyby2 screensaver in the last video, so I figured I'd take the opportunity to go 4K with it! Thanks to the excellent work by LGR viewers, there are now enhanced versions of the screensaver with support for modern CPUs, multiple aspect ratios, and resolution scaling up to 3840x2160 and possibly beyond. The source code was also unearthed by the developer and is now on GitHub! Links to all of this in the video description, and there's a lot more in the comments section of the last video about this as well. Enjoy 👍
There's something very restful about watching this, like all is right with the world.
"ScreenSaver" is my Top Gun radio handle.
@DOSboi Aidan best days, yes.
This is gonna be Clint's top video for 2022. 😄😄
where is the link
This is a coment from the developers website
" Someone found my screensaver left in a PC that once was used by Lockheed Martine, and posted on CZcams. So, I excavated source code from my backups and set up build for Windows and FM TOWNS OS. I never expected someone finds my screensaver from a quarter century ago. It was so amazing! "
I did leave a comment on the main video saying we are most likely the first ones to see this in 25 years.
That guy is also making TSUGARU which is a FM Towns emulator and it runs amazing !
You can sometimes get disheartened by the modern web. With all its ads and social media, corporate glossiness and bloat. One harkens back to a simpler time of animated gifs and visitor counters. But every now and then something like this screensaver comes along and the community rally together, to uncover the author the platform and then to make it work on todays machines in 4k. And the world and the internet seem like a nicer place all over again!
I think this is honestly some of the coolest stuff you do Clint. Bring stuff back from the dead enough that people are like "What that exists?" and the creator is like "What? People love this thing I made 30 years ago?"
Because if neither of those things happened, then we wouldn't get cool stuff like 4K versions of it as easily.
Thank you! It's certainly one of the main things that keeps me going with all this stuff :)
80s synth is so good pair-up with this SS.
The LGR community is why we CAN (sometimes) have nice things
This is beautiful. Thanks Clint!
The music goes well with the Tron landscape!
you (and the person who found it and gave it to you) really breathed new life into this little screensaver, you added another chapter to it's story and helped it to live on years, maybe decades after it was trapped in that abandoned computer
Really glad to have found it! Surprised, too. All indications were that three hard disk was supposed to have been wiped, yet it survived!
Actually great at being an effective screensaver, the runway+tail smoke refresh the entire display with a moderate brightness for a fraction of a second. Too many screensavers actually caused burn-in or didn't exercise the pixels enough! Looking at you Bubbles.
@JSHuiting I call the ones like Bubbles "Screen Flavors" because they don't actually save the screen 😂 3D Map for Win95/98 was bad for leaving a horizontal line burnt into the middle of your CRT if you were an office worker who left it 16hr a day
Sometimes there's so much beauty in the world, I feel like I can't take it
It's literally ALWAYS the case. By it's very nature, the world remains divinely ever-radiant, but natural selection has caused us to only notice it occasionally. A realisation like this can be QUITE overwhelming. 😊
There is something ethereal about this. I've watched it a few times now. The music is emotional and the graphics nostalgic. Almost brings me to tears. It's perfect.
Phenominal stuff Clint. Especially like your choice of DivKid's music. It fits in quite beautifully.
I had the famous flying toasters screensaver for 3 years now. Happy to change with this one!
This is going to work great with Wallpaper Engine.
My dad (59) loves this kinda stuff, I bet he's gonna put this as a wallpaper, with sound and all. Hope my mom doesn't freak out lol
I downloaded Mr Yamakawa's work today for my own use after seeing your earlier blerb. Truly amazing he was able to see your video and interact with the LGR community.
This video made me very happy. Thanks to everyone and Clint for being awesome.
Hmm... My cat has never been more mesmerized by an LGR video... you are reaching new audiences Clint!
This is such an awesome example of what can happen when a creator fosters a positive and constructive community around their content. LGR FTW
wait - I thought I recognised this! This dude made YS Flight Simulator! This was a popular freeware flightsim back in the day with a really big modding community. YS = Yamakawa Soji
And that community still exists today as well.
Finally. Something worthy of pushing my new 4k monitor to its limits!
Not been this excited for a screen saver since Johnny Castaway blessed the screen on my Dell 486
This just made my day! Was sitting here with my 486 and scrolling CZcams on my phone and saw it was blerb time!
This is fantastic. I hope someone can add support for multiple monitors.
Oh man, flat shaded polys are so great. I've been tempted to replay Zeewolf.
Can't wait for the full Computer Reset video, assuming there will be one!
This really is a piece of software who need for actual pc
100% respect for this screensaver
That's amazing! It looks sooo good. Now we just need the 10 hour version. ;)
The music and graphics evoke emotions of the 80s and Tron. Good stuff.
Thank you, Clint, this is one of those wonderful things I needed right now.
After just not having a Screensaver for years I've put this on every pc I own. Thanks!
I love this. The only way it could be cooler is if the gridlines were thicker. The higher res version running here makes them a lot less visible compared to the original in the Blerbs video.
Thank you for all the work on this everyone! This is amazing!
This looks super cool. I'm looking forward to an XScreensaver port.
I, for one, hope that someone ports the Arwing model from Starfox for the SNES to this, plus maybe some of the enemy crafts.
Kinda a different meaning for "Virtua Fighter." Love those flat shaded polys.
Thanks for sharing this screensaver with the community! This is just so awesome. It checks all the right nostalgic boxes for me.
Thank you for posting this, I might install the first screensaver I've ever used on any system since my very first Win95 machine just for this. I'm also thinking this needs to be done to the tune from Team America: World Police we all know I'm sure, just for fun.
Something very satisfying about procedurally generated art and visuals.
Learned how to run custom screen savers for this. Thanks Clint!
Stuff like this is what I feel like what the internet is truly built for. Awesome.
This is awesome! Thank you so much LGR.
Thank you for this, Retro-Master! Just grabbed it and installed it on my main PC, it's like traveling back in time!🙂
Thank you Clint and those who updated it! I got the same feeling with the Matrix screensaver back in the day.
Outstanding work from all concerned - living history!
Thanks so much Clint. I instantly installed it. Makes me happy =)
Thanks so much for this! This is awesome! 😎 The soundtrack is the best!
Ugh, hey, a question; can this me modified so that it has accessible settings, so we can put a music track to it? Can you ask the computer wizards who did this if it's possible? Pretty please? I think it would be a hit with the community, if we can associate some music to it, so they start together!
Simple answer. Do it yourself: Soji Yamakawa (the original creator) has released the source code online!
@@TheEmeraldMenOfficial Not everyone is a programmer and has the desire to become one. I bet you have a mechanic for working on your car, right?
@@md_vandenberg Okay but that's a lot more hands on than editing a program...
I'm not telling him to go rebuild Chernobyl Reactor 4 here, I'm just telling him to put effort into trying to learn.
Now I can be a nerdy Air Force mechanic and have a screensaver to match. Works great on Win 8.1, what an awesome community!
Dude! Love the music! Oh yeah and the screensaver is cool too.
Thanks for sharing this the other day I did get the file and loaded on to my computer it's been a nice change having a screensaver like this
This flew by my heart and left me in despair.
Did I see Su-27 among the planes?
I thought the guy would include LM's planes but he was also adding models from other manufacturers, which is cool.
This is so cool, I don't know what it is but it is from better times... Thank you!
The music fits this really well.
Who else was expecting Deadmau5 Strobe after the intro?
The community is amazing!
I love the F18 hornet. Just something about it. Great vid man keep em coming
Best vid I’ve watched this decade.
Omg thankkkkkk you 🔥🔥🔥🔥❤️❤️❤️❤️making this my screensaver
Thanks Clint!
i really like the background music! Greetings from Argentina!
I really hope Microprose’s Tiny Combat Arena has this kind of vibe, really looking forward to that! Hi-res flat-shaded polygons are gorgeous!
Wow that gives me serious A-10 Attack/Cuba vibes. How did I not know this was a thing!
looks sooo good
It's beautiful.
mesmerizingly 80s, love it
Also, is there a "Saab Viggen AJ 37", being swedish is nice to see
Sweet idea thanks man
Awesome detective work team!
Beautiful
This is just perfection.
This song really is such a great match.
This is really cool. Wish there was a WWII version with P-38s and P-40s and what not. Really like this style of shaded graphics.
Beautiful.
This makes me happy.
Hey. This is some fancy shit right here. Also, fantastic choice of music. I give it 10/10 would screen saver again.
This is what I watch you for brotherrrrrr
I downloaded it and I love it. My retro setup is looking great and this is the final touch. I also have a Wang 724 keyboard that I love. Highly recommend it if you can snag one.
Oh my, look how sharp it is. ;)
I like it on 1.75 speed. Looks a lot smoother.
Even better! Thanks
Worth the experience
The lo-fi makes it that much better.
Oh cool this came out on my Birthday!
Love the music!
The music is awesome!
My new screensaver. Very TRONesque.
Looks good.
Why didn't I have this screensaver when I was 5? Why was I content with flying toasters when this existed?
Thank you
This song is dope
Wow this is impressive! How did you make it work with newer CPU and resolutions? by ending the SCR itself or did the author edit the code and recompiled?
Reminds me of that game "Sky Rogue".
Late comment, but I now use this as my default screensaver for my gaming rig.
Amazing
GOD SPEED
awesome, I don't really have a retro PC to run it on but it looks great on my 75 inch 4k tv
very nice
The dark wireframe graphics also really remind me of Echelon on C64/PC you should totally review that sometime
Getting some serious Com Truise vibes from this tune.
haha thats a funny name
This may finally replace my 'Takin' a Break' Strongbad screensaver. I never thought the day would come.
This reminds of Star Scream and the other jet based Transformers/Decepticons.
Thank you all! Right click loop! Yes.
