This is my old boat 😢 The Fever Sportfishing. Glad to see fish still hitting the deck!
Ryan! I have been trying to get in contact with you for years! The old girl is still in great shape and she still catches like she used to! Please send me an email! It is in the description. Let's go fishing! - J.T.
That's amazing! I'm so happy to hear that. I'll find your contact & reach out.
You commented last video about the bubba net I think its a great net except for the aluminum bracket if you contct bubba they will send you a new one for free
Thank you for that information! I love the net I just don't like the connector they use. The salt eats it in one season. I really appreciate that info! Thanks for watching and commenting! - J.T.
I do brain to leader to swivel
Your no name knot looks more like a uni knot.
It's called a double pitzen
It alway nice to see somone catch there first fluke.its also nice how you explain how to do it and why it important how to do it. Alsome job
What makes you decide on what color grub to use?
Great question. There's a few elements I take into account. 1. Water clarity 2. Light level (sky) Is it cloudy or sunny 3. What type of forage are the Fluke eating in that area? Squid - White, Glow, Pinkshine Mantis shrimp - New Penny, Nuclear Chicken Sandeels/Mackerel - Sardine, Mackerel 4. Confidence and Feel - Salmon Red, Salmon Red, Salmon Red, Pink Shine 😀
He's Hooked for life
Can i rig it with just gulp and bucktail without jigging it and letting it sit on bottom? Jigging is tiring man
Also can I come fish with you? I am in Queens NY
You certainly can but your results probably won't be as productive. Fluke are attracted to the jigging motion.
Stand up!
Good Stuff man! Nice seein' You Sunday!
You as well bud! I'm sure we'll see each other again soon!
@@nextdriftfishing Yes sir🙏👍🏼👊🏽
Wish I still had nice stick of S&S bucktail left
Casual $500 worth of gulp on the stern, nice.
Years of accumulation
Hi for fishing off the pier. What size bucktail to use? My line keeps drifting away due to current. Do I use heavier bucktail to keep it stable?
And how do I know when the bucktail reached the bottom. It's hard for me to know since new to fishing.
@atifjavaid7941 Great question. If you're fishing from a pier, I would suggest a 1 to 3oz bucktail with a 4 or 5 inch grub and 10 to 20lb test braid on a spinning rod. You want to keep your bucktail compact so it has less drag in the water. That should help you hold bottom longer. I also suggest casting up current and working your bucktail back to you quartering with the current. I hope that helps!
@atifjavaid7941 It comes down to feel, practice, and most importantly, line watching. If you pay close attention to your line, you'll see it stop for a second, then continue going out. Lots of times, your lure is on the bottom, but the current is pulling the bow/slack in your line, making it appear that you haven't hit bottom.
@@nextdriftfishing thank so much this is very helpful. I can't wait to try it again at the pier and hopefully I catch a fluke this time 🙏
That's a really good one, I thought for a minute it was going to be a double diget
Pleasure to have you aboard First Attempt!
@jonathanbudlong4624 thanks bud! Great time as always. I'm looking forward to many more trips together this year.
commercial get by catch alotment for out of season fish wish recreational did
I have landed 4 23 inch fluke thus year. Lost a doormat at the boat. Can't break 23. Hoping to get at least 1 bigger than 23 this year.
The best chance of catching a Doormat is an hour before Slack High and an hour into outgoing.
100% correct
I saw one breach in the Race July 3rd. Cou d not believe my eyes!
Not a porbeagle?
yep pink shine for me.
Wasn't a double diget but a very good fish
I would find a NY boat - meet em and give them the fish
At least you can eat the sea robin and use the belly skin for cut bait
What great info. Thank you. I never ever thought of that.
Also, total side note ....just went on a charter with Halkias. As fun as I expected from the videos. I'm really looking forward to you two collaborating! I am right in Mystic and I think I know the answer to this already but I have to ask.....do you do any charters?
That is very cool! I'm glad you had a great time. Capt. John and I are really looking forward to these livestreams. Hopefully, we will get a lot of participation each week. To answer your question, yes. I ran a charter for a number of years out of Niantic. I loved it. I may start back up in the near future if everything goes to plan. I need to get surgery on my ankle this fall, so we'll see how I feel over the winter.
@@nextdriftfishingawesome well I hope the surgery goes well! Sounds like you’d be looking at next season for charter then. Is there a way I can find out if/when that happens? Just keep following the channel?
That 18 pound + fluke Joey caught was massive for sure. If it was not caught in Connecticut waters, it would still count as a CT State Record if weighed on a certified scale. How does that work?
Just like the seabass regulations, it goes from where your port of return is located. We're out of Niantic so it would have been the CT record.
❤️🩹🙏🇺🇸🙏❤️🩹
Gonna try your sabiki rig trick! I looked but so many sizes and options. Can you give me more specifics? And do you put any bait on it?
Awesome! It's a great way to figure some of the Fluke puzzle out! I like the small ones. Sometimes the Fluke are eating very small bait and I want to be able to catch them as well
@@nextdriftfishing So just throw the rig down with nothing on it?
@Livebetter12 that is correct. Take the sabiki out of the package and just drop it down. Hit bottom, reel it up a time or two and let it soak. Whatever you catch on the sabiki is exactly what the fluke are eating.
@@nextdriftfishing thanks man !
Like the clip from Jaws.....Hooper drives the boat chief.
Fly fishing term match the hatch...
Always remember if you need to have something weighed on a certified scale call or shown up at the nearest hospital as the scales in the morgues are certified. learned about that when McReynolds caught his record breaking striper in Atlantic City, NJ in 1978.
What weight bucktail? Approximate depth?
I started with a 4oz and slowly moved down to a 1.5oz. We started in 65 to 75 feet, caught the fluke and dogfish in 83 feet, then moved shallower to 40 to 50, very slow, found the mega school of shorts in 20 to 30 feet.
Stupid rule.
Rule is ridiculous but unethical people would just injure fish to keep them and we know there is a ton of unethical people out there
@19:28 That's the shit right there. I wish the 5" had the same girth/profile as the 6" so i wouldn't have to cut em like that on days when the bite is light.
Why are you expecting a good end to the fluke season? I'm assuming not in the bay. Since fluke tend to follow bait what upcoming events are we hoping for?
As i mentioned in the video, I'm expecting it because we the same thing happened in 2021, and we ended up with 14 double-digit fluke. I'm not sure which bay you're referring to, but no, not in any particular bay. The bait moves, schools of fish move in and out and it's fingers crossed that larger fluke show up on our most productive spots. Which we share with members on our Patreon page. You should join! Great question and thanks for watching
@@nextdriftfishing I fish in the same bays as your new video partner John. I don't have the boat to go out to Montauk. I have fished over on your side by the power plant.
Block, Montauk and other "ocean" facing areas have seemed to pick up in late July. The power plant is great in the beginning of the season
@@nextdriftfishing Which puts me into the chartering John, winning a subscriber prize with john, Miss Montauk or finding a friend with a bigger boat :). When you were catching the mackeral to see what the fluke were eating why didn't you rig up with any of them?
I must say I am out in Shinnecock Bay and the fluking is spotty at best. Outgoing tide only , wind with Tide only, lots of seaweed, 2 of us will work the whole tide to pick up two, maybe 3 keeper fish
Absolutely ridiculous that you had to put that fish back. Me and a couple of guys left out of Groton to go to Block Island on 7/3 in my 19’ Quest and the fluking was even worse than this. Ended up catching a couple of stripers down there that were both over slot and had to go back. We put back about 10 Seabass that were easy keepers. We ended up stopping by Isabella Beach on the way back and caught 10 fluke between the 3 of us. NOT ONE recreational size keeper! All 16-18.5”. My brother ended up taking home 6 sea robins just to have something to show for the day. These regulations are ridiculous! We didn’t have a terrible day fishing and certainly would have had some nice fillets if we could have kept the fish that day. I think my brother said it best “what a way to celebrate our freedom with all these regulations.”
I went to the seafood store on the end of rt 2 in pawcatuck and man those fish in would put regular giys in jail
I would have released the caucus and kept the meat that is a ridiculous rule. Whoever is writing these rules and regulations needs to get fired. I’m not saying they shouldn’t have rules and regulations but the people that are making the rules I’m not fisherman. Most of them are commercial fisherman, but only make rules in there favor why should a party boat be able to keep, a fish and a private boat not able to just crazy it should be illegal for them to even think about doing this to the recreational fisherman
You should always practice fillet and release
A bottle of soy sauce and Wasabi onboard addresses the issue for sure
The commercial industry needs to be reigned in a bit more in my opinion. I watch every year as sustenance anglers are hauled into courts and blamed & punished for damaging fisheries, yet local, state, and fed govs allow the commercial fishing industry to destroy fisheries. The Helen H is great boat!
Confusing
Thanks for watching!
Great trip. U caught some nice flounder good one..
How many 4 inch or 6 inch spro in each bag
@chrismagory9423 Spro makes a fine jig but we use S&S Jigs
Ok but do you take 4 of each S S
At least!
Morning! See ya out there soon! ❤
Good luck out there
