I have been waiting so long for the PMDG 777 and the TFDi MD-11 to make it to MSFS. I flew the PMDG 777 a lor on P3D, and I am part of the TFDi Quality Assurance team, so my dreams are coming true! Both of these airplanes are incredible, and both are "buy now" add-ons in my opinion.
I went over to P3D for the PMDG 777 as I was a real 777 Captain, and flying several aircraft on MSFS was affecting my job performance. On the other hand, flying the 777 on P3D actually helped me at work. No rap on P3D, as I really loved the honesty and performance accuracy of the study level PMDG 777. However, I am trying to build a following, and MSFS is by far the most followed.
I am a 1958 vintage pilot with over 21,000 flight hours. I currently reside in Connecticut. I am a 1980 US Air Force Academy graduate and a seven-year Air Force instructor pilot. I have flown for a major US Airline since 1987 and I retired in September of 2023. I have been type-rated in the MD-80, B-737, B-757, B-767, B-777, A-300-600 and the MD-11. I am a recently retired (9/6/23) 777 Captain.
I have traveled the world and I have come to the conclusion that there is no place like home. It's been a great ride. I am very new to the MSFS and P3D world and I love it. Please feel welcome to offer any advice that you deem helpful.

    for changing the minimum faster you drag the mouse to the side you are spinning while holding the left click down, the farther it is from the nob the faster it ill rotate. for the box its in the menu, you actually missed it twice lol, top right of the menu page "EFIS CTL". once its on you'll get another option for controlling the EFIS panel using that, however you gotta remember to turn it off otherwise your EFIS panel will remain disabled

      Yes, I've flown VATSIM many times, but it's difficult to cover subject matter to instruct. FSIPanel has runway changes, medical emergencies, engine fires, Missed approaches, holding, diversions, and many, many more topics that lend themselves to instructional videos. If I did this stuff in VATSIM I would mess up the experience for all of the other people. However, I love VATSIM, and I do fly it on occasion. Their Cross-the-Pond events are awesome.

    Very informative video! I've learned a lot from it. It takes braveness and professionalism to fly in such adverse weather. We had a huge ice and sleet storm lasting for nearly 10 days this winter, earlier in 2024. The airport was paralyzed and closed for 3 days. Not only the airplanes, but also the runways were covered with frozen rain that quickly turned into icy conditions. For the first day, after waiting for more than 8 hours on the aircraft, pilots, flight attendants and passengers had to be deplaned and airlines cancelled most of the flights. Sometimes powerless to do much about the chaos.

    Hi Captain, thanks for the video! You do not select 500ft in the ALT window on an RNAV APPR, if you entered the correct value in the FMS (minProf), you should be able to select the min ALT in the ALT window (i.e. 497ft- it will turn magenta then)- why did you choose the CAT C Minimum and not the CAT D? As far as I remember: on a Non Prec Appr, you select the GA ALT only AFTER executing a GA- that makes it very tricky, in case you forget to do, the plane will not climb, it might descend when AP is selected on. Well, today TFDi kicked me out of their discord because I wouldnt agree that the plane doesnt have issues. They tell me two days ago that my issue was a “known issue”. Today Fabio tells me that he doesnt have the issue. I said its either known or it isnt. Back and forth….finally I said “well, I guess Im not waiting for a fix, so I will give the plane away”. They then proceeded to tell me it was against their rules etc. Im tired of devs like this. Release an $80 beta, then dismiss the issues its clearly having. It isnt any better, or more reliable, than the E-Jet series, and yet we were charged a high price by a company with an attitude. Im done. Will just stick with companies like Fenix and iniBuilds

But even look at INI, when the A306 released they've had what... 2? 3? patches to address critical flaws as a result of patches? That plane was not ready on day one either. I had zero expectations that the MD-11 would be enjoyable before the .3 release. Still bought it, but I've learned to just accept it as part of the transaction experience.

      I always adjusted my seat so that I could just barely see down the glareshield. This was to be acclimated to that position in the event of a low-visibility approach where the runway was late to become visible. It gave me that extra nano-second to see the lights. This always left me slightly more forward than most. The sitting position in the simulator is a little more aft than I sat in the actual airplane.

  • @marcocal3
    @marcocal3 Před 10 dny

    Hello Captain I got a question: Does the TFDi MD-11 supports flying RNP approach with RF legs? When I tried RNP approach last time, the aircraft was able to "draw" the RF leg turning arc on ND, but not being able to fly it. Instead, it just directly ignored the turning arc and flew to the next waypoint with a very sharp turn. FYI, the approach I tried is RJCB RNP Rwy 17, which there is an RF leg between CB751 and CB752 waypoint. The MD aircraft, with NAV mode and PROF to MDA is set, just made a very sharp turn and directly flew to CB752 after passing CB751 instead of making an arc.

    • @FatherTime1958
      @FatherTime1958 Před 10 dny

      The TFDI MD-11 is capable of flying RF legs and absolutely should be able to distinguish between a fly-over and fly-by point. The fact that it failed to distinguish that on your approach is a write-up. I’ll definitely try it, although I 100 percent believe you. However, if the points are too close together it will go direct if it can’t physically make to small arc. I haven’t even looked at the approach. Thank you!
