    Allow me to first emphasize how thankful I am to have been included in the development of the TFDI MD-11 as a Quality Assurance Team member (read; unpaid intern!). I love this organization, and I have nothing but respect for their incredible development team. Oh, the product also rocks, and will get better and better with each passing revision. I have no doubt.
    I have been waiting so long for the PMDG 777 and the TFDi MD-11 to make it to MSFS. I flew the PMDG 777 a lot on P3D, and I am part of the TFDi Quality Assurance team, so my dreams are coming true! Both of these airplanes are incredible, and both are "buy now" add-ons in my opinion.
    I went over to P3D for the PMDG 777 as I was a real 777 Captain, and flying several aircraft on MSFS was affecting my job performance. On the other hand, flying the 777 on P3D actually helped me at work. No rap on P3D, as I really loved the honesty and performance accuracy of the study level PMDG 777. However, I am trying to build a following, and MSFS is by far the most followed, so I switched over to MSFS when I retired.
    I am a 1958 vintage pilot with over 21,000 flight hours. I currently reside in Connecticut. I am a 1980 US Air Force Academy graduate and a seven-year Air Force instructor pilot. I have flown for a major US Airline since 1987 and I retired in September of 2023. I have been type-rated in the MD-80, B-737, B-757, B-767, B-777, A-300-600 and the MD-11. I am a recently retired (9/6/23) 777 Captain.
    I have traveled the world and I have come to the conclusion that there is no place like home. It's been a great ride. I am very new to the MSFS and P3D world and I love it. Please feel welcome to offer any advice that you deem helpful.

    we did taxi on 1 and 3 when we were very light weight. As for the early descent and then transitioning to profile? Two ways 1. Vertical speed and then go to PROF when the VDI appears and centers 2. LVL CHG and use the de-clutched throttles to control the descent rate until the VDI is centered then push PROF

    Hi Jeff, thank you for that video. Your explanation of setting up the box for the approach and explaining the Nav display was great. I never realised you had to wait until clearing the last fix before setting the missed approach altitude. I;ve always just hit TOGA and take the wild ride until I figure out how to stop it climbing like a rocket........It's fun but not really realistic my way. All the very best Dave.

      @@FatherTime1958 Yes I remember that. Funny I thought it was really cool that a professional pilot, you hadn't retired then, was willing to mess about flying to my local airstrip to try something. I think that's why I like following your channel, because you love to pass on all of your vast knowledge and experience gained over many years to us amateur simmers so we can all enjoy the experience together. @@FatherTime1958 2 questions:
      How do you begin an early descent prior to T/D? In the 737 you press the alt intervene button and it descends at 1000fpm until you reach the VNAV descent path, same in the airbus. When I press the center of the ALT knob on the MD11 it just starts a full on descent and stays below the descent profile the whole time.
      And do you use 2 engines (outboards) only for taxiing, or do you use all 3, and some form of differential thrust to help steer on the ground?
      I'm loving this plane, sad I can't fly it in the home cockpit unfortunately, that would be awesome, but doubt I could get the MCP and EFIS's for an MD11, but one can dream. Thanks for all your real world knowledge, glad to have it!

    Hello Captain I got a question: Does the TFDi MD-11 supports flying RNP approach with RF legs? When I tried RNP approach last time, the aircraft was able to "draw" the RF leg turning arc on ND, but not being able to fly it. Instead, it just directly ignored the turning arc and flew to the next waypoint with a very sharp turn.
    FYI, the approach I tried is RJCB RNP Rwy 17, which there is an RF leg between CB751 and CB752 waypoint. The MD aircraft, with NAV mode and PROF to MDA is set, just made a very sharp turn and directly flew to CB752 after passing CB751 instead of making an arc.

    • @FatherTime1958
      @FatherTime1958  Před měsícem +1

      The TFDI MD-11 is capable of flying RF legs and absolutely should be able to distinguish between a fly-over and fly-by point. The fact that it failed to distinguish that on your approach is a write-up. I’ll definitely try it, although I 100 percent believe you. However, if the points are too close together it will go direct if it can’t physically make to small arc. I haven’t even looked at the approach. Thank you!

    Hi captain, thanks for the great tutorial:), just wondering 2 things for MD11 during go around/approach: Is it possible(or recommend)to fly an approach using FMS speed? Also if I was using select speed during approach and need to go around, is it possible(or recommend)to just hit FMS below the speed window rather than dial the speed up to 210(If so what speed will the airplane targets), thank you!

    • @FatherTime1958
      @FatherTime1958  Před 2 měsíci

      In the airplane, we could fly Vref using FMS speed and then preset the missed approach speed (usually 200 knots, but the TFDI drops the preset). It would be no issue on the plane to spin the speed window up to 200 Kts and go lvl change, and as a matter of fact, that’s what we did. If you just hit FMS on the GA it would likely go to Vapp. Prof might work.

      Thank you. For takeoff, arm "autoflight", and when you go above 70 percent N1 TOGA will arm. For a go-around, TFDI has designated a screw on the flight control panel (bottom left).

    How were you able to land below 140 kts?

    • @FatherTime1958

      140 it’s was Vref, which is 1.3 x Vso (stall speed). You land in between the two. You bleed off speed from Vref in the flare and the margin between Vref and a Vso is what you use to comp,etc the flare.
