    I have been waiting so long for the PMDG 777 and the TFDi MD-11 to make it to MSFS. I flew the PMDG 777 a lor on P3D, and I am part of the TFDi Quality Assurance team, so my dreams are coming true! Both of these airplanes are incredible, and both are "buy now" add-ons in my opinion.
    I went over to P3D for the PMDG 777 as I was a real 777 Captain, and flying several aircraft on MSFS was affecting my job performance. On the other hand, flying the 777 on P3D actually helped me at work. No rap on P3D, as I really loved the honesty and performance accuracy of the study level PMDG 777. However, I am trying to build a following, and MSFS is by far the most followed.
    I am a 1958 vintage pilot with over 21,000 flight hours. I currently reside in Connecticut. I am a 1980 US Air Force Academy graduate and a seven-year Air Force instructor pilot. I have flown for a major US Airline since 1987 and I retired in September of 2023. I have been type-rated in the MD-80, B-737, B-757, B-767, B-777, A-300-600 and the MD-11. I am a recently retired (9/6/23) 777 Captain.
    I have traveled the world and I have come to the conclusion that there is no place like home. It's been a great ride. I am very new to the MSFS and P3D world and I love it. Please feel welcome to offer any advice that you deem helpful.

    As a commercially rated pilot myself that had to stop flying because of health, I love hearing about your experiences flying this aircraft in the real world. I only found your channel since the 777 release and question why I had not found it sooner. Thanks.

    Great video as always! And as a airbus guy i have been struggling with go arounds with AT off. In the 737 when you press the toga button nothing happens with AT off, dont know if its the same in the 777. I guess you just set 90 N1 or something and then arm the AT again, but not sure. I will continue practicing :) thanks again, you're much appreciated with these videos!

      If you do a go around with the A/T off, that would be considered a manual go around. Witch it speaks for itself, you push TOGA and set the trust manually then run through the rest of the procedure. 737 go around Procedure: Set go around thrust, flaps 15, positive rate, gear up. If you push TOGA with the A/T on, it will set the trust for you and you will get reduced go around thrust, if you push it again you will get maximum go around thrust, (same goes for the manual go around).

    We have close to the same specs, but I'm running 32gb of ram and a video card with 20gb of vram. I usually only get frame drops when weather is loading in, but for the most part the sim runs pretty smooth at 4k . Even when I'm running PMDG products. Unless I'm trying to stream or do some sort of encoding at the same time. That's when the extra cores and ram come in handy to smooth everything out.

    Hello, Captain! Nice tutorials. When do pilots usually disconnect the autopilot and the autothrottle for the landing?
    I'm still a little confused how they make a decision that it is better to hand-fly.

    • @FatherTime1958
      @FatherTime1958  Před měsícem

      We rarely autoland, so at some point in the flight we handfly. We never turn off the autothrottles. We land with them engaged, and simply override them in the flare. As for the exact instance when we handfly on descent, base, final etc. that is totally dependent on the pilot and the situation. You increase the workload greatly on the pilot monitoring when you turn off the autopilot, and decrease your own workload. It’s not considered a macho thing to handfly as a professional pilot tasked with the safety of the people and airplane.

    @Father Time have you ever trained dual engine failure or pitch trim runaway?

    • @FatherTime1958
      @FatherTime1958  Před měsícem +1

      Yes, we train in runaway trim during initial qualification on every aircraft. We rarely train on dual engine failure.

    Hi Richard. I’m loving the MD11 but having one or two difficulties which are stopping me flying it on VatSim. The speed control is fine in Profile, but as soon as I move from that, it seems to be far too slippery, and even the speedbrake can’t slow it down. Is it me? I’m a retired Boeing guy, so have no experience on the MD.

    • @FatherTime1958
      @FatherTime1958  Před 2 měsíci +1

      if you have at-home throttles, ensure that you manually regard them to idle. In the real aircraft, the throttles will go all the way to idle When required, but I have found, on occasion, that my throttles stopped retarding to idle and I had to manually set them. I’ll check this issue on a flight today. Thank you.

    • @stephenmckinnell7791
      @stephenmckinnell7791 Před 2 měsíci +1

      @@FatherTime1958 Yep, that is a problem, and I have found the throttles increasing far earlier than expected. But yesterday, the throttles were closed both in the plane and on my BravoThrottle, in the equivalent of FLCH (Clamp Idle?🤔) with 3/3 Speedbrake, doing 330kts, I opened the SPD window and wound it back to 280kts, yet it wouldn’t budge a knot! 🥴 And I thought the 757 was slippery! 😂

      @@stephenmckinnell7791 I had never heard the term “slippery” in aviation prior to three weeks ago. It’s perfect. Yes, the 757 was one slippery creature.

      @@FatherTime1958 Problem sorted! Operator ignorance! I took a photo of the AutoPilot annunciators while attempting to show the situation. It showed Pitch| Heading 309| Idle Clamp But then I noticed it also showed 250 to the left of Pitch, and 7000 (sel ALT)to the right of Clamp. The Indicated Speed at the time was indeed 250, but my _Selected_ Speed on the MCP was 220, which on Boeings would have been the speed the plane would be trying to achieve. From memory I don’t think you can have that window open on Boeings, but the plane attempting to fly a different speed, except in V/S. But I HADN’T PULLED THE SPEED BUTTON OUT. When I pulled the SPD switch it started decreasing immediately.
      What a relief, and a thrill. Now I can fly on VatSim to my heart’s content! Thank You 🙏
