BNSF Stampede sub at night! The sound of jointed rail
Rumor has it that the Stampede Subdivision was going to have its jointed rail replaced with CWR. This route is one of the last (if not THE LAST) class 1 mainlines that still has jointed rail for it's majority.

I am at a loss for words... We paced a Big Boy... Q&A Q~How fast were they going/What was your speed? A~35-40 MPH (56KPH-64KPH) Q~Did you have a shotgun mic on your camera? A~Believe it or not I didn't! I shot this with my phone of of things! Q~I see that the A (Front) engine on Big Boy leads the B engine by about 40 - 60 degrees at the start of the video. At the end of the video, both engines ...
March 1996 VIA Skeena Trip! V1 P1

Video 1 of a 4 part series! My father took these shots on a March 1996 trip on the VIA's "Skeena", a then overnight train from Prince Rupert, British Columbia to Jasper, Alberta. Although much of the landscape hasn't changed, a lot of the road power on the Canadian National has. In these scenes you will find a GP9RM working the Prince Rupert Yard, SD40-2Ws, SD50Fs and a C40-8M sitting at the su...

West Kanaskat Jointed Rail
zhlédnutí 116Před 5 lety
A BNSF empty oil unit train rumbles over NP track at West Kanaskat, WA. This section of line dates back to 1954, when the Northern Pacific rebuilt its mainline to conform to a new dam being built up the line. Suprisingly the rail here dates back from 1954.

By the time this footage was shot in August of 2014, the HHP-8 had only 3 months left on the Amtrak roster. I do believe this train was a Regional. My camera was an old 2006 era Kodak hand held so the audio and video aren't the best. Still, however, it is footage of something that is now gone from the Amtrak roster and soon to go on the MARC roster.
SP 4449 returning to Portland

We are outside of Bend Oregon on the Oregon Trunk sub. Southern Pacific GS4 4449 is on her way home to Portland Oregon after a successful run to Bend. I would've kept recording however I ran out of video.
BNSF MAS 40...

... Is the Maximum Authorized Speed through Toppenish Washington. My father knew this train was coming before hand and we managed to get to toppenish right on time to meet it. Where I was standing there is a joint in the rail (As this part of the line is jointed rail still) so you get that trademark "clickity-clack". The track speed here is 40 MPH.

Beautiful ❤ It 😊
Superior quality and workmanship of American STEAM
Great video! I’ve been searching for footage of the Sheehan from the 90s. Thanks for posting this.
Cool shot
Artistic masterpiece. Picasso of our time.

Beautiful pieces of history. I've seen the 844 several times but am still waiting to see the 4014 in person.
Best video ever bro, God bless you 🙏
That’s a sho’nuff train, all right, ‘cause it has *Soot!*
I wish Buster Keaton was driving this engine...
I know its about maintenance cost and fuel efficiency but how can any moving mechanical device be cooler than a steam locomotive? Good to see the old gal back on the rails. Thank you for posting this awesome video.
Makes you feel like pulling one of those hollywood stunts and jumping onto the train. I read the statements you were so kind enough to post for people who had questions. Unlike some O scale trains powered by a single Can Motor driving all the wheels, these real life locos are driven by separate steam cylinders. So, slippage, as mentioned, is very possible along with temperatures and pressures being different causing the cylinders to cycle at different times and intervals. Thank You for posting your video.
What was the top speed of the Big Boy during this trip?
Awesome thank you
Hard to believe it has been “fallen” longer than it was a railroad. That just doesn’t seem possible. I am CONVINCED prior to 1995 that what is a minute today was five minutes then.
I don't care how big a rock crusher [diesel] you build; nothing can match a steam engine in sheer raw power. Good on Union Pacific.
I wish I could get this video to Greta Thunberg, I am sure she would love it as trains are her preferred mode of travel.
I’ve had the pleasure of watching these giants at work on Sherman Hill in the 50’s and now across the nation in the 20’s. What a privilege.
What a beast
Like watching them find the DNA of a T-Rex and bringing it back to life as it runs through the field.
Video of a lifetime!
In Europe our trains are powered by diesel or electric energy but without steam nowadays.
29 person did like video either if camera guy would video the second engine 844 would've been really nice but No he or she kept camera on front engine 4014 " Really" thumbs down own on the video. Sorrymy feelings you watch video and see the problem too.
S-SEACHC: Stacy Street Yard (Seattle, WA) to Cicero Interterm (Cicero, IL).
Fucking beast on the road ! ggrRrrrrrrrrr
Is it pulling? It looks like the reverses aren't in gear.
I'd like to know who drives these things today???
GOD BLESS AMERICA!!!!!!!!
What gets me about these Big Boy videos, is it a secret, that never show what these engines were built for that is racing armaments like tanks and munitions from the mid west to the coast. mb
Spend at least a few moments with #844 ffs....
My son loved the video 😀😀

Do These Locomotives Work On Diesel Or Fossil Fuels (Like Coal Wood)
Both diesel and wood/coal are fossil fuels, and in the case in both the 4014 and 844 they burn oil
I sure recognize those shots here in Denver
I miss the Cascade green
Fun fact, they dump sand in the firebox periodically to blast soot out of the boiler tubes. That's why you get a blast of black "smoke" sometimes.

Any guess on how much horsepower this locomotive 🚂 puts out ?? It’s awesome 👍🏼 Edit, In my 40s and saw my first steam locomotive recently on Chattanooga, TN up running, coughing, spitting etc...it was glorious 👍🏼😆. I was just awww 😊 in its presence. Really like a living machine ! When history comes alive !

how fast were you going?
Amazing footage, talk about being at the right place at the right time! Good you didn't run into any traffic issues.
I like how the traffic on the highway in the background is slowing down to pace the Big boy.
Nice video
It draws a crowd everywhere it goes.
Why the one accented stroke? Shouldn't there have been four unless some valve was left open?
Magnificent RIP Stobe
That is soooooo beautiful it takes my breath away!
