Ranking EVERY Roger Dean Album Cover!
zhlédnutí 4KPřed 10 měsíci
Roger Dean is probably the greatest non-musician to influence progressive-rock. Through decades upon ongoing decades of dedicated work, he has supplied many of the genre's best known (and a lot of obscure) albums with mesmerizing paintings that cemented the visual beauty of prog for eternity. I was so moved by Dean's work that I decided to go on a journey of discovery and uncover all of the alb...

    Surprising reaction ....... . This band was very funny live, the singer entered the stage in the ¨rock n roll part ¨riding a bicicle or dressed as aquaman and stop just in perfect timming to sing the part. Also changes of dressing and theatrical stuff in all the singing parts ,which weren´t much as it is almost instrumental . The band had two classical contemporary players ( violin & flute ) a jazz sax player , the rest were rock musicians . They played no more than 5 concerts . The singer quit the band before recording this album and formed a rock /pop band named Suerter , with no relation to prog. The singer in this album is NOT the original singer he never played live with the band . He was hired for the record Album is from 1977 and there was no keyboard player ,although the singer played keyboards but not in this album . You should react to ¨Buenos Aires blus¨ a very unique album by la pesada in 1972 ....yes ir t says blus ,but there are some really prog in there ...

      @@zsjb_ nuh uh, listen to providence or knots, musically speaking its very similar, and there is no such line, 70s prog bands had a great interest in composers such as bartok, stravinsky, holst or schoenberg, that are considered atonal and avant garde composers, the same influences that luc lemay and stevee hurdle had in the making of obscura, prog its not about the sound, but about the philosophy behind the music about "evolving" music, maybe they have different instrumentation, but the ideas are the same

    • @zsjb_
      @zsjb_ Před 2 dny

      @@trapitogamer999pro4 while there is prog that inherently draws from avant garde, you can have prog that does not, therefore seperating it as a genre. Camel, dream theater, tool, symphony x etc. These bands don't build the foundation of their sound on the avant garde but rather on more basic experimentations that are still built on the foundation of their respective genre.

    Shalom! Your video appeared in my 'recommended feed', probably because I've just finished watching the Prog Corner live stream where the panel select their top 10 Pink Floyd tracks. I've never liked Floyd much. I certainly can't pick 10 top tracks as there are only 5 I actually enjoy enough to keep in my CD collection: Arnold Layne, See Emily Play, Point Me At The Sky, One Of These Days and Money. After that, I lose interest. Actually I meant to leave a couple of comments weeks ago after I saw an old Prog Corner live stream on which you appeared. By the way, with regard to chap below who left a kind and thoughtful comment, our group (UNIT) is not '3 Jewish chaps from Scotland' (makes us sound like another Gentle Giant). I am the only Jew and only 2 of us are Scots (including me although I live in London). Yes, we've received a few abusive comments but the really juicy ones appear on our Bit Chute channel but then that's hardly a surprise. The Tolstoy quote is highly appropriate! PS Can we expect to see you return for a future Prog Corner live stream?

I have accepted my current inability to create or partake in content-making, but I'm longing to come back to it soon enough! <3

  • @josephgerard5473
    @josephgerard5473 Před měsícem

    Thank you for this video. Yes, I know I'm 11 months late but I only discovered your channel recently via The Prog Corner. I'm an Irish Roman Catholic so I don't have a dog in this race, if you see what I mean. I'm not a Pink Floyd fan - I don't hate or despise them; I just find most of their music dreary and frankly boring. Yes, I'm aware I'm a minority voice here. It does seem to me Waters doesn't like Jews very much. Well, that's rather sad but after all, he has plenty of company and I don't think it is either fair or sensible to rank him alongside Hamas or Hezbollah, for example. 3 of my favourite bands now (all discovered recently) are Tangent, UNIT and Myth Of Logic although I think Myth Of Logic is largely the work of a single chap. UNIT are (as far as I can tell) 3 Jewish chaps from Scotland. They have received a number of hateful, nasty and insulting comments on some of their videos (the ones that feature tracks based on Jewish subjects such as Yom Kippur, Pesach, Israel Is Real, Bar Mitzvah, The 613 Mitzvot, The Six Day Miracle...and another one whose title I've forgotten) which seem to show it is still acceptable to be abusive to Jews since YT had not removed the comments last time I looked. I wonder how (for example) Graham Gouldman, Peter Green and the Shulman brothers of Gentle Giant fared in the 1960s and 1970s when Jew hatred was far more open and pervasive than it is now.

    • @365DaysofProg
      @365DaysofProg Před měsícem

      Yes, as an Israeli and Jew, I can say that antisemitism is seeing a resurgence nowadays... Despite not believing that Waters is a blatant antisemite, I think that his preachings - especially in his concerts - enables others to feel empowered about their hateful outlook on life. Nevertheless, I will conclude with this quote by Leo Tolstoy which has really been motivating me these past few months: "Wrong does now cease to be wrong because the majority share in it." Take care and thank you for the music recommendations!

    Calling Kayo Dot a Maudlin spinoff is like calling an album like Music For Airports a Roxy Music spinoff. As a genuine fan of Maudlin, Kayo Dot (specifically their first release Choirs Of The Eye) absolutely blows Maudlin out of the water. Please please please treat yourself to a Choirs listen uf you haven't already, one of the best albums ever written, in my opinion. Absolutely essential listening specifically for an avant garde metal fan. Would really recommend all of Toby's work, especially their pre-Hubardo work, my personal favorites including Coyote, In the L...L... Library Loft, Tartar Lamb II, Gamma Knife and the absolutely monstrous track Don't Touch Dead Animals. (That being said if you're a straightforward prog fan after Choirs I'd recommend Blue Lambency Downward, much more accessible than the other releases mentioned and bears some occasional similarities to Part The Second)

Also, I think it's important to say that while their first album wasn't as popular as their second in term of instant reaction and sales, I believe it was still a massive success upon release in 1974 in Quebec and to this day, probably the most renowned Harmonium album in Quebec, with songs like "Un musicien parmi tant d'autres" and "Pour un instant" that are almost national anthems.

      @@365DaysofProg I only listen to 2 and 3. The first one seems more pop folk to me. 3 is really nice but we sense more musical "effort" than the natural, organic flow of the 5 seasons. Great original topic on your channel, keep going!

    wonderful band! Some have said they produced the first neo prog with a few of their subsequent albums. But really the best work by them is live, an album simply called "Live". A few albums later, they went with German vocals and produced a couple of great albums. Superb guitar/keyboard interchanges throughout their career. You mentioned being surprised they went further. They sold a lot of albums in Germany for a prog band in the 1980s, which might explain their relative longevity

    Great album, thanks for giving it some air time with your usual eloquence! BTW, worth seeking out the version that has 4 bonus tracks. It's worth it just for the last track, the 7 and a half minute "Back Home"
