I know a lot of PT fans consider 'Fear Of A Blank Planet' to be their all time favourite album and with good reason, it's a classic and while it's one of my top favourites, 'The Incident' i feel is their best and it's my favourite. This was an album that you had to listen to all the way through which consisted of multiple parts and at times it could be either atmospheric or extremely heavy but still highly enjoyable. It was one of those albums that showcased a band at the peak of their creativity and going out on a real high note even though we didn't know that would the end for a while. I feel the Octane Twisted live album where the band play the entire Incidient recording sounds actually better than the studio album but it still doesn't take away from the fact that this was Porcupine Tree at their best. Thanks for reviewing this and keep up the good work.

I find Fear of a Blank Planet highly overrated and actually feel "Nil Recurring" the EP that came out later that year to be better.
I feel The Incident is better than FOABP, but I agree with many other fans feeling of it not being as good as many of their other records.

You just put all my words there. The incident is my favourite PT album. Disagree about the live album. The mixing is so bad steven didn't mix it and plus the band didn't wanna release it. Gavin was absolutely against the release of it too due to obvious reasons.

I'm surprised you didn't mention the Time Flies being almost the same as Dogs from Pink Floyd.
I like Drawing the Line and I Drive the Hearse..the rest of this record I recall enjoying more than Fear of a Blank Planet, but not as much as many other PT albums or many of his solo records. Although I have it on CD, I haven't listened to it since 2009, lol. I probably should again soon.

      As they say... time flies.
Better give it a spin 😉

Oh yes, I really enjoyed this video! To the point that I almost bursted out laughing from 0:37 onwards😅 Why are you so funny, Naomi?) Great review and, most importantly, - honest!
Anyway, 'The Incident' is definitely not the best PT album in my eyes. Can't say it's the worst the reason being 'Time Flies' and 'I Drive The Hearse'. 'Octane Twisted' and 'Remember Me Lover' are ok. All in all, this album left me with mixed impressions. I'd rather listen to 'Up The Downstair'.

I try to be witty especially in these negative(ish) reviews. And as much as I enjoy it, hopefully this will be the last bad listen this year 🤞🏿

Hard agree with everything you said here. This was an exercise in pure patience-testing tedium. Steven Wilson is absolutely capable of making good music, but for the majority of this album it really sounds like everyone involved was just going through the motions.

    9!
Bad word of mouth kept me away from The Incident for a long time, after FoABP I was kinda falling out of love with the PT sound anyway and found Wilson's solo efforts a lot more intriguing. When I finally got around to this one I wasn't very impressed, pretty stale and overlong neo-prog that missed the darker/more metallic textures of older works, an interesting concept and some lyrics to hang on but not much else. Some have called this an "artistically mature" album but "mature" should never be synonymous with dull.

      NINE!!!
And yeah, I can objectively tell that P.T. have much better albums than this one earlier in their discography.

Probably my least favourite Porcupine Tree album, The cover seems to be saying 'nothing to see here'!
