He only missed 9 matches right?

This seems an oddly bitter post given all the praise Spain has rightly gotten. England are currently also considered one of the 'special' teams (like Spain) because of the way they literally blasted through the Euros, including taking down Spain on the way and Germany in the final; and reaching the 2023 WC finals - where they didn't quite play as well, but were still finalists. It's also totally fine to mention missing top players: Beth Mead is arguably currently one of the top forwards in the world and completely in her prime. I've repeatedly heard Spanish fans claim they're missing key players, both in the 2022 Euros (where they lost to England in the Quarters) and the 2023 WC. Both Spain and England have a fantastic story in women's football over the last few years. They've come from behind and toppled the historic dominant teams: USA, Germany, Sweden etc, as the current best. I think Spain deserved to win the WC. They were the better team in the final. But it's very strange to claim England also aren't one of the current best women's teams in the world when they won the Euros and were WC finalists back to back.

My reasons for not thinking England is that special is simple: they cannot win outside of England. I happen to think Betcha Mead is a great player. Nevertheless, when it comes to playing as a team in a tournament away from home they just haven't proven themselves to be capable. Take the Euros for example. They were being outplayed by Spain (which at the time were not at their best. The cat ach was a disaster). It took 14 (phantom) minutes of injury time for them to equalize Spain and send the match to extra time. Then they played Germany, another team in turmoil that was a surprise for many that they actually made it to the final match. The proof was in the world cup. They were a disaster there. Then in the world cup, who did England play? All the good teams were in the opposite bracket! Yeah, I don't think England's national team is that special.

" Well, that's just nonsense, obviously. England had a 30-game unbeaten run just before they went to the 2023 WC. All those games were not at home. In the 2023 WC - IN AUSTRALIA - they beat all their opponents to make it to the final: including a very impressive Nigeria and also the host nation in the Semis - Australia 3:1 (who'd been on a big roll and had taken out France in the Quarters and have one of - if not - the best scorers in the world). So much for your claim England can't win away from home or their fans. They literally beat the hosts. The 2022 Euros may have been 'at home' but England pile-drove through that tournament in a completely unprecedented way. They beat Norway 8-nil, Ireland 5-nil, Sweden 4-nil etc and also took out the two favourites Spain (quarters) and Germany (finals) to win the championship. It is a huge level of cope on your part to make excuses for those teams, when England out played them when it mattered. I certainly wouldn't make those excuses for England in the WC final. Spain outplayed England on the day. Spain rightly won that match. Totally weird that you state that you can't make 'excuses' for teams not being at their best, and then you literally make 'excuses' for teams not being at their best..! You talk about the previous 30 games as if they had competition in friendlies. They didn't have to qualify for the euros. They did blow out teams (minnows) in world cup qualifying, and they did their job qualifying for the final match. Do you want to give them a trophy for that? It was expected! When they win a major tournament outside of England, I'll give them proper credit.

They had a 30 game unbroken winning run after Wiegman took over up until just a couple of months before the 2023 WC. Did you watch the Euros? Very bizarre to dismiss their knock-out winning performance throughout. When you’re second you still get a trophy, Sweetie ;-) Joking aside, all the major teams end up qualifying against mostly (not all) ‘minnows’ as you call them. There is no group of the best teams, even when they can vary (go up and down in performance). It’s very odd. I think its fantastic that Spain, England and certain other women teams have started to heavily invest in the sport and started to have major successes against the traditional winners in the last two years or so. Long may it continue. I don’t share your negativity and arrogance.
