It was time for the first winter recovery mission of 2024 and it was so much fun! We've had an extremely long summer and we're quite excited to mess around in some water and mud again, it's been too long.
Two quite large trucks got stuck in clay/mud and it was up to the Toyota Prado V6 to get them out. Join us, to see how it went.

Did your caravan back window break on the trip?
No no, haven't lost any windows on the caravan yet. Did it look like it at some point?
Yes ,I thought it had some marks on but must have been mistaken. Very nice van! Have you done any other mods except the wheels? I have a 1976 500 de lux, and fitted 14inch rims with 295 80 14 dunlop tracgrip, made a huge difference but we have only traveled about 10km of dirt road at a time.
In my opinion you vans size is ideal and it's much better that a rooftop

@@dewaldbiersteker7016 Thank you. I must say, I am super happy with it so far. Been such a joy to use with the comfort of course. Always been using rooftops, but this is next level comfort and so little effort to use 🤣 the rooftop only goes on when I reallllly can't get the van in there. I have done quite a bit yes. From axle, wheels, bakkie tires, lifted shackles, stronger hitch, some reinforcements on the frame and then of course I had to modify the feet, because of the new height.

With that kind of incline we are in 4 low. Basically always 4 low when in thick sand, otherwise the gearbox runs too hot.

Unbelievable. Sorry to hear of all the destruction that came upon the people of this area. Now the Vredendal/Lutzville/ area are flooded for the 2nd time as the Clanwilliam dam is overflowing for the 2nd time this winter. (But it is Spring now.)
It is absolutely crazy that we have to deal with this for the 2nd time within 3 months. Not ungrateful for the water, but wow 🤣 I didn't know Vredendal area is flooded again. Is it as bad again?

I arrived in paarl on 27th around 12 noon from mossel bay,the sun was shining so hot.Dont know paarl ,the area we were for a short while before we left for stellenbosch was as if there were never a storm or rain. It's quite sad to see the aftermath of the floods. I wish a speedy recovery for everyone whose lives were negatively affected by it.
That is the thing, it happens so quickly. Your life changes within seconds/minutes. Glad you arrived safely where you needed to be.
Nobody saw this coming. May you all be comforted homeowners in this time of loss. Be strong. This will pass too. Life is full of challenges.

I am in the Boland/Winelands area, so I rarely visit Cape Town side. I have seen some footage of losses and damage there as well.
Wow, I cannot believe that that is Franshoek, its a shock to the system! Thank you Christoff for your drone footage, it must have been frightening for those living there at the time of the 1. hectic winds, 2. the biblical rains, 3. the mud/landslides. Those centuries of vines, some unique to the area, countless barrels of wine vats ruined, complete farms and other sections that Franshoek is famous for wipe out completely. To those affected, may you keep safe and call out for help if you need volunteers to help with the clean up!

Most deaths in a flood result when people try to drive through moving water.

No, not at all. I am only able to use certain music from the CZcams library without having my video blocked for certain viewers and this was under the dramatic/sad list. Surely didn't want to use anything upbeat, that would just be disrespectful in my opinion.

Developments in flood plains should be stopped.
Very unfortunate for all affected by the flood damage. Fascinating to see this footage it looks like from the land surveyors / architects / builders / and homeowners very few saw they were building on old river beds, waterways.
This is a mountain, its supposed to evolve over time. I live right by this mountain and did not even notice this event.
That is what we've noticed, most people didn't even know about this. I would have loved to see this happening in person, but also not 🤣

As far as I could see, the lower income areas are situated at a little bit of a higher altitude that saved them. I wasn't able to go everywhere though, so might be wrong.
