I was told that during WWII, the Reed & Prince screwdriver was a modified Phillips. It has been known for years as a Reed & Prince. Now today, for some reason it is referred to as a philips by the ignorami. Go into any big box store tool section see the puzzled looks you get when you ask for a reed and Prince screwdriver.
As someone who is trying to get into woodworking and lacks a garage (thanks, Navy Housing), I can't thank you enough!
Anything but flat head FFS I don't know why these are still used
It also adheres to Skittles.
I use a 123 block. The numbers are easy to remember and it clamps nice to the fence.
They sold out to china.
Yeah your sandpaper ad, you weren’t wearing gloves, you could scratch your fingers lol. Love your videos, thanks for your time and knowledge.
let the NASA engineers speak for what they use when calculating the orbits of their satellites. I use metric, it's easier for me, let everyone use what suits them best at home.
Using any grinder means FULL FACE SHIELD plus eye protection, heavy gloves, and a leather apron, every time, and keep your body out of the trajectory circle
This is very much like what i was designing on paper...but it's not quite the same👀!
- This is the internet, there are people who will always say: "I need detailed plans"- the same people who buy templates for push sticks... IF "one is interested/keen on in woodwork, but can't make a box without plans, maybe start with cardboard and scissors. Then once you have that worked out...buy a jigsaw (or vibratory multitool) and cheap corded drill- as a first powertool set. For beginners - 6:49 demonstrates why top bearing guided router bits are much safer for those who want to keep fingertips intact. Note, for a slightly less "build" project - the Router table could be made on the bottom surface of a storage crate - without losing the function of the crate.
a utility knife and a 4 foot step ladder are the most dangerous tools we’ll ever use.
Phenomenal lesson. Thank you!
This is woodworking anthropology. Fascinating. Great work and I love your channel.
another great video. took a class at wood craft where I had the privilege of using, jointer, planer and drum sander to process rough sawn lumber from the lumber yard . we brought it from 1" to 3/4 to make a cabinet. thanks to my instructor who introduced us to lumber yards in Houston I no longer by sanded plywood at $84 a sheet but $34 each . i also get s4s wood from them while I am there which makes the process in the garage on a weekend even easier .I can measure, cut and assemble. I agree though a planer is a good start , I am Looking in to getting one.
This is neat because I can make it really portable by putting in a battery router.. I’m calling it my Stumpy Nubs mini trim router table . ©️
How long is a 9 inches?
Three quarters of a foot.
It's not half the world, it's only 1% (USA and Liberia) out of about 200.
Government is wayy outta hand now. They're borrowing money to send overseas and regulating us to death.
I've blown lathe projects apart at less than 3.500 RPM.
DO NOT GOOGLE DEGLOVING JUST DON'T TRUST ME
Great video James. I was just wondering if you are making build plans for this little table
All the details are in this video for free 😀
I used to weld and burn through disks like candy, everything this man said is a 100% professional and factual. One of my instructors had a heavy grinder disk blow up in his face and tear apart his face like a grenade. These machines are not toys.
I’ve seen a horrible angle grinder accident myself. It was no joke.
Great idea James, thanks for sharing with us. Fred.
watched this video several times as well. you remind me of my math teacher back in high school , never did like math but the way he taught made you listen , learn and remember . thank you
As a cabinetmaker, I use 1/32 and 1/64 just about every day. It’s quite easy to eye a half or quarter between the 1/16” marks. Domestic AA maple plywood thicknesses vary as much as a 1/32” and even a 1/16” in the extreme in a single sheet.
If you're eyeballing between the 16ths, you are not using the finer marks on the rule. That's my point.
Haha Literally talked to my mom about this but she thinks im craze for not wanting her to wear any rings. Ring almost got stuck on my finger once i had to use veg oil to slowly push it out for like 30mins, ever since then i don't wear rings.
Remember when Superman came out? How many kids tied various cloths to their necks and jumped from high places in attempts to fly? You can't fix stupid. You can tell a good story or two about how it got itself killed though.
How many?
Reminds me of a trim router table I saw on WoodWork Web a few years ago which helped me figure out how to make a simple one for myself. It's nice to see simple solutions when so many other channels make vastly complex projects, but at the end of the day, it's just a secure platform and a fence. That's all you really need.
Pozi-drive anyone?
You forgot to mention that angle grinder discs, whether in use or new on shelf have an expiration date !
The deadpan delivery on this was impeccable. In Australia, they still use a bunch of imperial units colloquially, like "give an inch, take a mile", and also in certain contexts where imperial suits the human scale better - she is a giant at five and a half feet tall. But mm or thou, I still can't cut a decent dovetail joint by hand.
I never use it without the handle or the guide
Love your wood shop!!
All of us should report these videos when we see them. I do.
Robertson are the best screw heads. I always use or buy these.
Built one somewhat similar around 4 yers ago! But added a lift system with aluminum top insert! Love it threw my router table away in the trash actually sold it! Also made a box joint jig freaking sweet performance unbelievable! 🍻
They don’t offer it in many sizes. I need 142” for my Rilon
That is so easy such a great idea, it would be worth keeping an eye out for a corded trim router on sale, and buying it to be dedicated to this portable router table
Yeah, well......the French can't take a joke sometimes. 🙄 I worked with a couple of French Chefs, Trust me!!!
as a european, i'm just glad to keep my fingers in an incident, but i see for americans, even with the increased price of a table saw, it would be cheaper once you calculate a visit to the ER into the equation.
Thank you for sharing
I use endmill to do some really fine woodworking.
Something relating to the "as long as I don't make a mistake" attitude: There is always a chance of something throwing you off. It could just be a neurological thing that causes you to make a small motion that throws everything out of balance. Someone could drive their car into the wall of a house within earshot and the noise can potentially break your concentration. You can't predict or prevent either of those. It's not likely for any given moment to have something like that happen. But the more time you spend performing dangerous cuts, the more likely something throws you off while you"re at it. It's not about your skill because there are things outside of the realm of skill that cause accidents. So you should use your tools in a way that even when (not if) something goes wrong, nobody is injured.
Stump, you're the best. Knowledge, and stuff that's really good to know.
I have a spare router with a broken trigger switch and I was planning to buy a cheap router table for it, but storage is a factor so I was reluctant, given the cost. I have an identical model that is fully working but I wanted to use my broken one with the trigger switch bypassed in a table that I could leave it in permanently. A separate on/off stop button on the table would then make it safe to use. But when I saw your little project here, I fell in love with it - I have scraps of wood so I can put it together for nothing and the fact that it is less than a quarter of the dimensions I was expecting from a bought one, makes this just perfect. Thank you for this upload. I had toyed with the idea of building a table but never got beyond thinking about it because I had a much larger image in my head. Definitely now subscribed to see what you have planned for it. Excellent!
I have router, but it’s a press and hold button to operate. Love the table and would to make one, but with my router need a new plan, any ideas…
Those are all home owner tools and are garbage
