Hi Brian, I placed an order with Taylor Toolworks on 10th December. Have not heard anything from then since. I then sent an email asking if order has been shipped and asking for tracking details yesterday morning and have heard nothing since. Just really poor customer service and I am in Australia so with time difference not easy to call. I dont think I am unreasonable.
Assuming you checked your junk mail folder, I would suggest your spam filter is catching and deleting the emails before you see them. Because there is no way Taylor Toolworks is ignoring your emails about not getting your product. That's simply not how they operate. Why not call them?

Cutting Foam Insulation: Sorry this is off-topic, but if anyone has tried to cut rigid foam insulation without a cloud of annoying clingy particles, or ending up with a wavy edge, here is a solution.
1. Buy a blade for your saber saw like BOSCH T313AW3
2. On a straight board, cut a saw kerf in the middle deep enough that when placed under the foam board, it has free movement up and down. Clamp the foam board down. Shorten the blade if needed. (I cut mine with a Dremel cutoff disk)
3. Once the board is kerfed, place the kerf on both ends directly under the line you want cut. When you cut along the line the kerf will capture the blade and keep it perpendicular to the cut. You will end up with a "factory cut" on the edge of the panel. It's pretty amazing.
I can't tell you how frustrating it has been to get a straight cut without a huge mess of debris, or having the cut along the blade being very straight, but the blade wanders all over the place until I came up with this solution. I have used this with great success.

That plastic gauge has MANY uses. It has holes to check outside diameters, studs to check inside diameters of nuts, thread gauges, and a ruler for checking lengths. Both imperial and metric are on the same tool. Great tool to have!!!! I bought one on a whim years ago and I'm impressed with all the things on it.

I've bought a fair few of these items based on your recommendations in previous videos, and I really, REALLY appreciate the guidance. My 75 year old drill press had NO light on it, but the previous owner did install a big power box with an extra outlet. Slam DUNK for a magnetic light, and I too enjoy supporting small businesses. I've been trying to find a nice set of chisels. The other premium brand chisels have had their price shoot up to almost $100/chisel. It made these a real easy decision!

One word caution, when jigging for sharpening use face not side champ version of jigs. I can’t jig mine square with Side clamp jig

Note to my fellow woodworkers: be careful of the Amana bits that Amazon is shipping from that listing. The first two that they shipped me were clearly counterfeits and all Amazon did was ask me to send them back (presumably to be put back into circulation)

I haven't seen any Amana counterfeits, but pretty much anything can be counterfeit, these days. You can usually tell right away by the low quality fit and finish, sometimes a lack of proper packaging and missing logos on the tool. If you get a fake, it'll be pretty obvious. Just return it. Unfortunately, Amazon isn't the only place where there is that risk. Sometimes the fakes slip in at the distributer, overseas.
@@StumpyNubs Hey, if you feel so inclined, that might actually make a good video, given how anything quality is so swiftly counterfeited these days. Just a thought, anyway. Could be one of those subjects that seems simple at a glance and spirals out of proportion, so it's just a thought.

I've been using the refills for Fischer Space Pens in my Zebra pens.
I keep a 10’ Powerlock in my car console so at least its always near me. Good call, Stumps!
I wanted a nice keychain tape measure, but couldn't find one i liked - 10' long, narrow, and not overly bulky in the pocket. The Stanley 10' pocket measure was perfect, except it had no keychain (Stanley - sales opportunity here LOL) . I pulled one the screws on the back, got a longer one, and made a tiny link out of a bit of steel with two small holes drilled into it. I could attach this to the chain I pulled off of a Milwaukee key chain tape measure and I had exactly what I needed.

Have nearly all of those items, a notable one(s) I don't use are high quality marking pencils/pens because I always lose em.... hah. I do like that counter-sink, have one but that one seems better. Instead of yoga mat I use exercise mats I have extras of that were used for weights, that kind of stuff is useful for a number of things in the workshop.
Some great ideas there.
I bought my Kapro magnetic combo square at Woodcraft ~2 yrs ago. Just as you mentioned, the pro is the ease of adjusting, removing, and inserting the ruler piece, but the con - which I’ve found to be significant - is that the ruler moves far too easily when I don’t want it to. That said, Woodcraft still offers it, priced at $25 on their website, slightly less than on Amazon.

What type of fire extinguisher do you recommend for a workshop?
Haven't used the F-701 but Zebra F-301s are the only ballpoint pens I use. Because they're one of the easiest to find FINE point models. I used to absolutely hate writing with pens, and still prefer 0.5mm mechanical pencils most of the time, because every single one I used to have was a medium point, and they just make horrible mushy messy lines and giant dents in the paper. Fine points feel completely different to use.
Whelp, today I shattered the tip of my 3/4" stanley 750, and the first video that popped up was this. Been thinking about getting a set of Narex for a while, so I just ordered one.
I agree with you on Harvey it’s everything you want in tablesaw …. That’s my unobjective opinion. I have some accessories and they are so nice that I get very anxious about using them. So they come out of the padded box. They get used, cleaned and they go back in the box.

they are nice chisels but still suggest lapping the backs and micro bevel. why they went to 24 deg i don’t know. i set them to 25 with a 27 degree micro bevel. 2 of them were not square out of the box which made me just set them up as per usual to any other chisel.

I have loved ISOTunes for a long time, but since trying the new Jabra Elite 7 pro and now the Active 8, I had to switch. It's not as good noise isolation with the original ear tips, but with the comply foam tips, it's closer. Though the versatility of the Jabra app makes them so much better to control equalizer, noise cancelation, or alter the functions of the buttons on them. I wish ISOTunes would add an app to chance settings to make them comparable, and they would be unbeatable.
My pocket's been carrying a Stanley 10-foot 175th Anniversary tape for some while now.
In addition to the tools you feature how about recommending your 5 to 10 favorite woodworking books?
So many great tips here. I have wanted the Narex for so long, think I have no choice but to get them with that insane low price. I have also reconciled with the deteriorating eyesight approaching 40 fast, and put the small LED lamps on all my stationary tools. Just a couple of minutes of rewiring them on the same circuit as the machine, and you have instant light where you need it.
On your narex chisel segment..it is also known as sub zero process we make use of this process what it does after sub zero their is no movement of steel grains that makes it the best process to grind your final product...
Which Pentel pencil size have you found the most practically useful 0.5mm 0.9mm etc?
I like the 0.9 for regular marking, and the 0.5 for fine marks on joinery, etc.

That’s exactly how we used to treat the steel at the scalpel factory I worked in. The steel was hardened, annealed and chilled with liquid nitrogen

Why haven’t I seen video about a sanding disk for your table saw? Back in the 1950s my dad had a disk with a sandpaper face that he would use on his table saw. About 15 years ago i purchased a disk for my 10” table saw and i use it when I need a larger surface to support my project as I sand edges.

Question: the Armana tool55227 costs in the US : 38.28, and over here in The Netherlands the exact same tool costs: 90.02
That is a big difference (the price is for both in Euro's)
Oh and shipping would cost me an extra 9.02 in Euro's

Some countersinks leave a hexagonal hole. Is this an issue with the one you recommend?
Star-shaped countersinks can leave a hexagonal hole, especially if they are dull. Round countersinks produce better holes.

A common problem is folks who drill the pilot hole first, then countersink. The countersink can wander, making a weird hole. Try countersink first, then drill the pilot hole. The countersink makes a perfectly centered spot to start the drill.

Cyro-treating carbon steels in liquid nitrogen isn't really a molecular change. In Martensitic heat treatment the steel crystalline structure changes from pearlite to austenite above non-magnetic temperature. When austinized steel is quenched it freezes the crystal structure in a midway point before it can fully revert to pearlite which is the crystal structure referred to as martensite. A percentage of the austinite is retained in the crystal matrix, which are soft or weaker points in the structure. Tempering is the process of converting retained austinite to martensite and softening martensite. Newly converted martensite from the first tempering is untempered, which is why almost all modern carbon steels require two tempering cycles. Now where cryogenic treatment comes in is aiding the conversion of retained austinite to martensite by continuing to cool past the point of temperature where the quench ended. In high alloy steels such as stainless cryotreatment is often required because the alloying elements impede the the transition between crystal structures. Essentially all cryogenic treatment is doing is increasing the hardness of the material its why steel becomes brittle in cold conditions. The effect starts in an environment as cold as your deepfreeze and doesn't significantly increase in effectiveness with decreasing temperature until you begin to reach the upper -200s. what cryogenic treatment doesn't not do is compensate for poor heat treatment prior to the quench, get to hot for too long and the crystal structure turns to beach sand and has terrible durability no matter how much its tempered or treated after its quench.

Your description of the chisel metallurgy was correct up until you mentioned molecules. Metals consist of atoms in a crystal lattice
What's the definition of a molecule in this context? Is it the atom? It seems to me, it is the atom. But I guess some could argue a grain of a crystal constitutes a single huge molecule.
@@ps.2 A molecule is made up of two or more atoms which are held together in an ionic or covalent bond where electrons are shared. The metallic structure is crystalline where individual atoms are arranged in the crystal lattice. The atoms can be visualized as existing in a sea of electrons and this bond is defined as The metallic bond.

Hi all… Anybody had success with the ISOtunes deal? I added the 1.0 to the cart with another headset that is over the price requirement but at checkout I don’t see a discount. Has it expired?
I saw one of your videos a couple years ago about the graphgear pencils so I decided to buy one. I LOVED it and later bought more. Then one day after a few months of use, It stopped working. I thought it was stopped up with a tiny piece of lead still inside, so I took it apart and rammed a small guitar string up the inside of it to clear the jam. I put new lead in and it would click click and click but no lead would come out. So I trashed it and grabbed a new one. A few months later It to stopped working. Later, another and another. Some, the clickers just stopped clicking.
Are you having these problems with yours also? I eventually stopped buying them and went back to those bulk packages of Bic pencils. I probably have $60.00 tied up in graphgear pencils that are now garbage.
I still have and use the first one I ever bought after several years.
I just wish the isotunes pro came with molds that fit my ears. Really bummed i wasted my money on those
None of the various ear buds they offer for those will fit your ears?
@@StumpyNubs unfortunately no, it's not necessarily a "them" issue, I typically run into this problem. I guess I have small ear canals. And there's really no way to know something like that will fit until you buy it and try it out.
There is no other mechanical pencil for woodworking except the pica. Sorry😂❤

I wanted a 150mm / 6in ruler, but I couldn't find a dual scale one in Europe. I ended up ordering it from *m*z*n, and by the time it arrived, it was well over $30. It is worth every cent though.

Pilots use mechanical pencils, no time to deal with broken leads, no sharpener available a need to change a code, handy eraser right there. Yes my IP during flight school oh so long ago insisted on mechanical pencils.
Its so weierd to see local brand Narex being recomended. Seems they started investing more domesticaly and loking more into qality of they products in the recent years. Remember them being brand for oldtimers with portfolio being from comie era and chinesium.

Sorry James but I completely disagree with the use of earbuds in the workshop.
If you are listening to the music you're not giving full attention to the job in hand.
If you are giving full attention to the job in hand, then you are not listening to the music.
I know that the workshop is a noisy place and that you will be wearing eartectors but there is also the health and safety issue that earbuds further insulate you from what is going on around you. Oblivious pedestrians with earbuds, in the street, illustrate my point
Surgeons listen to all manner of music while holding your life in your hands. if you feel music is a distraction, or you need to hear the machine better, there is a pause button on the side for when the machine is running.
So the wooden box costs nearly $50, and they're selling it to people who should be able to make boxes.

There's nothing special about the Richter chisels they use the same cheep steel chrome vanadium like most other. What you want in a chisel is a high carbon steel or a2 steel

Let's see, u say don't promote tools with poor customer service yet u don't id which one(s) so ur comment either means every company is bad and leaves us to guess which and that harms every company trying to do a good job if ur comment stops a potential purchase. Of course just not naming a specific company protects one from liable I suppose but such comments are just useless except one gets to vent.

Liable is also only if my comments are not true, so I am not concerned with that as much as you, obviously. Because I got the idea from this channel, so do you call that venting??? Writing a blanket statement like this isn't doing any favors either.
I don't promote companies with "terrible customer service." However, every brand I have ever known has had at least some customers who felt the service was not to their expectations. People are imperfect, and imperfect things happen, sometimes. That said, whenever I have investigated a significantly poor viewer complaint about a brand I work with, it invariably turns out that there is far more to the story. The fact is, people see things the way they want to see them, good or bad. All I can reliably do is give an honest assessment of on MY experiences.
