MTB North West England
United Kingdom
Registrace 1. 07. 2016
Started to put a few videos together of me riding the bike which I tend to do once or twice a week all year round usually in the North West of England. Local rides tend to be Lake District, Peak District, Hebden Bridge, Wharncliffe and anywhere within 100 mile radius of Wigan sometimes on my own or with various riding buddies. Started riding mountain bikes over 20 years ago with a fully rigid bike and currently the owner of a Nukeproof Mega 290 and Bird Zero 275. Reckon I have ridden most trails in the area worth riding but always exploring looking for new stuff. If you want to follow my adventures on the bike then please subscribe to the channel.
Dimmingsdale 'Dimmo' MTB - 'Is It As Good As They Say 🤔'
Saying this is just over an hour and a quarter from my house, I'm staggered I've not visited here previously because at the weekend I usually struggle to decide where to go without doing the 'same old'
I heard some good things about the riding but didn't really do any research other than nabbing somebody's Strava to effectively do a recce. This worked well and I rode some good, bad and darn ugly trails but at least I know the spots to avoid and where to head for next time if I return
There are certainly features here that were beyond me and would test many riders but with a few visits reckon I would do a better job.... well probably 😆
I did most of the trails around the valley so the edit will give you a flavour as to what is on offer

Some more new stuff on this I haven't (and don't think many others) have ridden before. Conditions were dry and generally dusty if not a little overgrown through the bracken and windy in places but it was a grand day to be out on the bike Tough on the legs on this latest Tasty Tech offering which tells you something when the ride leader flattens his Ebike battery near the end. A pretty ambitious plan for a warm day on the fells. We hit the Langdale Valley with the intention to do a double loop. I've done all of it before but not connected it together so the stats said it was doable albeit in 11 hours 🥵 It was quite warm and we did quite a lot of chatting to many friendly walkers and had a bit of time out ourselves which slowed the ride down, however, I keep referring...

A cracking ride with better than forecast weather. Everywhere including Rivington is a bit overgrown a present but I'll take the dry trails and put up with other factors all day long Slightly different to the normal ups and downs off Pigeon Tower although we did stick around there for a couple which were running sweet Probably 7 or so years ago I did the last descent on the edit which is good a...

A lovely tour of the Edale Valley and beyond. Dry, even dusty trails which is a bit of a novelty for the UK this year. The gritstone was as grippy as you like which really made for good riding across the tops and you could play on some of the rocks for hours picking different lines A couple of mechanicals ensued on our first rocky descent with a puncture and broken tooth on a jockey wheel causi...

Linked many of the Calderdale Valley classic descents up into a loop which works quite well Conditions were generally dry but not bone dry on the trails giving a perfect amount of grip and although the forecast was mixed, the rain held off for the day which I was thankful of. Lovely summers evening to be riding some dry dusty trails around Rivington Pike although Graham managed to find the only bog on the hill 😆. An almost repeated ride of one done with Tasty Tech earlier in the year for the benefit of Mark who wasn't able to previously join The day started very promising quite dry and sunny with a few small puddles here and there on the trails and then an hour or so in it decided to rain fairly steady enough to change the conditions on the floor to mud and grease. Another midweek evening ride and due to the plan to ride the steep stuff we took the big rigs. Rides here have be be timed well after a dry spell because the place is pretty much a write off when it's wet and the steep trails difficult in the dry are impossible for me in the wet. Most of the trails were actually dry but think we managed to find the wettest trail on the fell side Taking a differ...

Beats Haigh Hall pal by a country mile!! Thx for the good content yet again! 👍🏻
Cheers buddy, the story goes there is some off-piste in Haigh Hall nowadays (not a recommendation, just an observation 😁)
@@mtbnorthwestengland 😁😆
El Steepio looks well battered from last time we rode it, used to have big catch berms on it
Can't comment as to how battered it is as a comparison, didn't seem too bad but would like to give it another go to try the couple of bits I didn't do, not be riding that in the wet though 😬
@@mtbnorthwestengland it’s better in the dry and in the spring before the ferns go mental
@@tastytechaddictsmtb I'll put it in my calendar for next year 👍🏼
Its Staffordshire lol
I realised later and corrected myself, don't forget it's the first time I had been there and didn't do any research so it just felt like I was driving to Shropshire, what's a county away between friends 😂
@@mtbnorthwestengland ha ha saw that correction after I’d posted !

lol what was that at 20:02 ?, was that bloke shouting ?
He shouted something which ended in "and I'll wrap it round your neck"
2 not so friendly walkers in front, the woman went to put her walking pole in my mates front wheel and that was the response she got 🤷♂
@@mtbnorthwestengland Ahh I did wonder what that was about !, that trail was wicked at speed when I was by myself, then hit the traffic jam
Ha ha that woman wasn’t happy 🤣 , she was shouting “no biking !”

Death tech, hiker bike, and angry walkers, Iain's back 😂
Just about sums it up 😆
🤣
Tech, heather, bracken, rocks, trees and sunshine. And a crowd. Another great video.
Cheers pal, yep it had everything including ice cream 🍦
Wow - extreme stuff. EMBN latest video missed out the rough tough stuff as they were focussing on the bike. Don't know if they did the whole loop
Thanks for pointing that out, just had a whiz through the video and they went down the way we went up and didn't do the long descent we did at the end. Same area, different loop but as you say was more about whether the bike was capable of handling the terrain etc. I bet they didn't ride much of the Rossett Ghyll descent.... just saying (they only showed the top 10 seconds) 🤣
Epic mate, absolutely Epic. Superb scenery, great riding and what a day to do it 😎 hats off to you guys 👏
Probably the most enjoyable ride I’ve done in a while, well at least in 2 weeks when we were in the Pyrenees 😂 but seriously it was mint 👌 keep the kudos coming 🤣
Fair play to both of you, the first half of the video looked hard going but got your reward with that descent. Great riding and them view's
Just about summed it up, a tough old climb but quickly forgotten about as soon as the fun begins 🤘
Have you done Warnscale?
Yes just seen it 😎
Sure have, done it a few times on various rides, probably 3 videos on the channel that incudes it 🤙
wow i cant believe you can do this..
Me neither, it's all about the bike and not the rider, I'm just a passenger whilst it does it's thing 😆
wow you two are nuts... you must have so much experience
I'll go with the first part of the comment but not sure about the second 😂
Crazy bar stewards 🤣✌👏
Thought we would tone it down a bit this week, had some complaints the footage was too extreme 🤣
😎
Yep that was bonkers 😅, tho looked absolutely epic, tech galore, views galore 👍, and the thumbnail 👌
Ride had everything Rob and the tough carry was well worth the descent. 6 or 7 years ago last time I did that, will have been on my Orange 5 hopefully will not be as long before I ride it again 🤙
Brilliant 👏 Really enjoyed that 👍
Cheers Howard, appreciate your comment 👌
That's one of the best descents I've seen in the Lakes. Epic, well done both of you.
Cheers pal, one man’s pleasure is another man’s poison but I agree with you. A descent that keeps on giving 🤙
Absolutely epic Martin 👍my kind of route, any chance of joining you one day ?
Yeah you're always welcome Paul, I only tend to ride Sunday though and think you prefer Saturday? Intend doing Iain's ride at the weekend so might see you there, if not will hook up before this feeble summer ends so high level is still on the cards 👍🏼
Bloody hell you two are motoring, i'd bottle out at those rocks
Great video again you deserve more likes and comments keep them coming 🙂👍🏻
Thanks pal, I agree 😂 👏
What a lovely place to play in. Haven't been to edale for 40 odd years
Its a cracker of a place for a bike, the drops and rocks will test any level of rider 👍🏼
That looks awesome. I was wondering, I see you have a Garmin on your bike. I have no experience with bike computers and was interested to know whether you use yours to plan routes like this offroad and how good and reliable you find them? Can you rely on the information from it to get you there are back and if so, what model is yours? Thanks.
Good question which I'll try to offer a short answer. I don't personally use it for route planning mainly because my eyes are not great and unless the screen has large digits I need glasses (yep it's an age thing). If I plan a route I have it on my phone in my pocket but gets frustrating getting your phone out regularly. You would be better planning a ride on Strava or similar and then save gpx to Garmin connect and follow that. I have an Edge 830 nice size, had lots of previous models larger and smaller and settled for this which works nice on the stem mount. Are they worth it, not at all, are they glitchy, yes but I've stuck with them for 10-12 years, tried a Wahoo and sent it back as it was complete rubbish in comparison
I like to know the time of day, distance, how long I've been riding, how much climbing at a glance and this gives me that and I can read it without specs 😂
@@mtbnorthwestengland Thanks for the reply. I too have a hard time reading small screens so that is a good point. I was kind of hoping for the money they cost they would be able to be something I could rely on 90% of the time without the need for an additional device. Thanks again.
@@teamdoa they are actually what I would say very clunky old tech about 10 years behind mobile phones, but they are quite robust and would much better survive a crash
Looks mega, dont suppose you have a gpx file?
Mark having a mechanical never 😂, great loop that and yeah Win Hill is running mint 👌
Cheers Rob, might see you in a couple of weeks, you never know 🤘
Looks like you did the beginning of the Edale Loop then headed across the slabs over Brown Knoll towards Jacob's Ladder, then went along to the Woolpacks and down Grindslow Knoll. Then on to Win Hill I think but I've never been up that way, I'll have to give it a go once I know where the trails are...
Much cheekiness on this loop but sounds about right 👍🏼
The ridge is the one! Hard push up but worth it
Don't recognise the name, maybe I know the trail. Presume it goes off the steep side?

Good job 💪🏾
Flying ants 🤢 and lights already 🥴 dosent feel like weve had a long summer does it 🙄.
Poor attempt of summer so far, a baking hot Aug and Sept would do nicely 🤞
Love a good hardtail outing..although it takes an hour or so for your ankles and legs to acclimatize after a few weeks off👌
Yeah, minimal skill compensation as well so line choice is key 🤘
Amazing do you have a strava or Garmin I could get GPS for this route
Thanks, I do but they have done a lot of tree felling since so some of the trails do not exist anymore although some have been reinstated but I haven't been back. If I were you I'd be asking someone who has ridden it recently or I could send the GPK file and tell you were to go/avoid/check
Respect to you mate, I would’ve turned around & gone back down the way I came
Cheers pal, never say never but would have to be dire to do that 🤣
Sounds like your rotor needs cleaning to me loving the hardtail content keep it up 👍🏻
Removed the rotor and pads today and gave both a good blast with brake cleaner. Caliper is centred, I've changed pads and cleaned rotor previously but not as vigurous as today. If it does it again I'll have to get a new rotor, think I have a spare used one in garage so can try that before forking out more dosh, cheers
@@mtbnorthwestengland sanding the rotor and pads might also help if you change to new pads without cleaning the rotor good they make a racket cause of the old brake pad material
Strava won't let me follow you?😢
You just need to send a request to follow and Strava will let me know. I’ve not known Strava dictate before who follows who it is usually down to the individual to decide if you’re account is set to private
That tech run @ 9:30 is a tough one 😅, hopefully see you soon now Iain is making progress on his bike 😂
Yeah well you never know he may put an appearance in this year 😁
Damn, this trail look rough as hell! My arse would be regretting it with my rigid trek saddle
Reckon you could give it a good go on a fully rigid with better line choice and a slack head angle 👍
Nice Video
Cheers pal
Looks a bit wetter than we did it !, dont want to go off that wall in the dark !.
@tastytechaddictsmtb Yeah it was pretty crap conditions but the story of our summer so far I'm afraid. Falling off that wall (the wall where the big spaghetti roots are?) will probably get you a visit to A&E
@@mtbnorthwestengland I dunno my summer (last week) in the alps was mint 🤣 , part 1 of the video is up now. Yer that wall drop we nearly went gunning into , then realised it was like dropping off a shed roof 🤣🤷😆

Very nice I enjoyed that very technical riding especially the end bit looks a bit scary to me 🤣 fook that

Hopefully you didn't make the same mistake as us and go around the hill at Edenfield when we could have nipped over the top and dropped straight in but you live and learn. We are going to spend a bit more time there sometime soon probably on a Wed night
any chance of a route link, I hardly recognise some of these routes! am local so would appreciarte it!
Any chance of a garmin/strava link or gpx? looks nice and local to me but dont recognise it at all !
Just buy an SDG Duster. I'm pushing 17.5 stone and 6'6" and mine takes a pounding, but keeps on working as it should. Thanks for the trip down memory lane. My folks used to live in Hebden Bridge many years ago and I spent my 20's and 30's riding those trails, long before the likes of modern geometry, e-mtb's, strava and the like.
Fully rigid bike would be interesting round there 😂. Jury is out on SDG saddles, previously used Bel Air 2.0 brilliant, bent a rail but no squeaks. They went to 3.0 and bought a couple for both my bikes with exactly the same problem on creaks and squeaks caused by loose rails. It is what I had on my Mega before the super squeaky Ergon shit. Might try a Duster, they don't look too expensive, cheers 👍🏼
Short but, sweet. Mad moment on that downward righthand corner after the controlled dismount. Was a tad suprised at how you simply rolled into it and rode it through. Nicely done.
Cheers mate, it was one of them when the person in front does it and you have somebody behind, you don't really have much of a choice 🤞
Good video of some of my local stuff, just a little heads up..if you go slightly lower from the roots section on 1st part of buckden woods it’s a better line through a less rooty line and then take a sharp left at fallen tree into steep fun chute to the stream and pedal up the road. ( you may well know this)👌
