  • The second instalment of the Easter weekender in the lakes and a nice weather day and fixed brake lever resulted in a last minute change of plan. We were intending to head down to Glenridding but due to the late start decided to do a second ride from the Keswick area so on a sunny although windy day what better than to round the weekend off with the quintessential Ullock Pike
    Busy climb up as the masses headed to the summit of Skiddaw for their easter homage of a high mountain to perhaps celebrate the resurrection of Jesus Christ. Anyway back to biking when we got to Lower Man the wind was really whipping up but didn't really hamper the riding although it was pretty noisy on the mic. At the top was pretty cold but once we got into the lee of the hill all was good except we were on the descent that I detest. Watch the edit to find how much I didn't ride 😆. Ullock Pike (and I must say this on every video of it) has to be the best descent in the lakes, I just wish I could clean it which has to be my goal, one day, one day, maybe 🤔. All going to plan until something happened on Ullock Pike that caused me to lose half my bottom jockey wheel but fortunately I was still able to pedal the bike albeit noisy with a jumpy chain similar to yesterday got round the planned loop again with a poorly bike
    The return is pretty straight forward and my legs held up better than expected with 2 x 5,000ft days in the bag in and around the lakes big mountains, what's not to love ❤️

      One of the best in the lakes Becks and the sun makes it even better, a bit breezy but you can't have everything 👌

    Another great ride, seeing you walk that bit off Skiddaw, I did exactly the same now I Don't feel so bad about it😊

      Cheers, that descent is mind over matter and my mind always says my bike will not hold so the brakes go on before I know it and then after that your done 😂

    The scree section from Skiddaw has a huge drop on the right hand side which is what scares me about it

    • @mtbnorthwestengland
      @mtbnorthwestengland  Před měsícem +1

      I know only too well, went down it about 3 years back and a mate managed to crash on a different ride and landed on his bar end with his thigh which came up like an egg, not a pleasant sight and he was in quite a bit of pain

      @@mtbnorthwestengland How far did you fall down the side ? It looks like it would be difficult to stop if you fell off the side from that scree trail, and it looks like it's thousands of feet off the bottom. I hope to do this ride again sometime soon but the thought of that section scares me

      @@grannyjone Big blocks of rock off the side so you ain't rolling very far, it's certainly not a soft landing but the bonus is you stop quite quickly 😁

    Some brilliant riding by you both, what I liked best is the giggling like kids softer coming down off ullock. That’s why we do it haha

    Now that's a proper ride 👌, excellent riding as always boys 👍, what glasses did Mark buy in the end ?

    • @mtbnorthwestengland
      @mtbnorthwestengland  Před měsícem +1

      Cheers Rob, when the weather is good, no better place to be riding bikes. Mark finally dipped his hand in his pocket and bought some Madison glasses, think they are Enigma with 3 lenses, seem to work OK and he comments he can read the trail better due to improved vision to his POCs = Poor Optical Copies 😆

    Still not gone down the scree off skiddaw or ullock. You usually do steep so has me worried if you had to walk a bit ha

    • @mtbnorthwestengland
      @mtbnorthwestengland  Před měsícem +1

      Erm it depends if you can hold your nerve when it gets steeper, I usually freak out and think the bike is not going to hold and the consequences are severe. I remember when I saw the first video on this many years ago and thought its quite flat, not sure what all the fuss is about but in person it's a different proposition (usual GoPro bollox)

      @tastytechaddicts you've been out the game for a while, you might have to do some reading up to remember the routes 😂. If Carlsberg did MTB loops..... it's a belter for sure 🤣

Rocky as useless, they been screwing the parts supply process over so am utter nightmare getting bits for it 🤦🏻‍♂️ . Ha ha will be all changed next time I’m riding 😄

    Looks an awesome ride. Near perfect weather too. What kind of distance and elevation does it cover?

    • @mtbnorthwestengland
      @mtbnorthwestengland  Před měsícem +1

      One of the best in the lakes IMO nearing 20 miles and 5,000ft ascent but doesn't feel as bad as some 5,000ft rides you may do. You just need to get the Skiddaw climb done (approx 3,200ft) and then its plain sailing after that and you can always cut it short by turning off onto the road at the end of Ullock

  • @simonstyles7313

    That looks a great ride! Conditions a bit different to WA but great for UK MTBing! Can I ask what Editing software you use, I've got a GoPro and loads of footage but yet to find a software package that suits a technofobe like me 🤣

    • @mtbnorthwestengland
      @mtbnorthwestengland  Před měsícem +1

      Top notch ride if you like tech, once you get the first mahoosive climb out of the way its not too tiring. Software I use is FCPX but only compatible for mac and expensive. I hear from the masses that DaVinci Resolve is great and the free version is windows/mac compatible and more than useable. Some riding buddies use it and get a similar result to me.

    That's definitely a good loop hard , question, I riden up skiddaw and all the bridleway around there but avoided unlock pike with it being a footpath ,what your take on riding unlock pike.

    • @mtbnorthwestengland
      @mtbnorthwestengland  Před měsícem +1

      Cheers, not sure what you mean by my take, I ride it and enjoy it. Many people will stick to the bridleways but each to their own for me 🤷‍♂️
