Lakes MTB - Coniston Old Man 'Putting the Mountain into Mountain Biking'

- What a belter of a day to be in the lakes riding mountain bikes after the last few months of proper sh!t, it feels like winter has gone on forever and seems it ain't finished with us yet but lighter nights are just around the corner which can only mean one thing 🚵♂️
This is a ride I've done a few times before, all of which were prior to the GoPro days. Did a similar ride 6 months ago which took us over to Swirl How and you will find this on the channel if it is of interest. I wanted an alternate descent off the tops so here it is, off the front of Coniston Old Man. People will likely say I'm a little retarded due to how busy it gets but I find people in the main will move out of the way when they hear the bike. If you want a clearer run, obviously a week day would be a better option
If you stick this out to the end there are some cracking views on a rare of recent times sunny day. This is a long edit and realise it is not for everyone but this is as much for my enjoyment as other peoples and this reflects a big mountain day in the lakes. My fitness seems to be coming back after a month off the bike due to an extended holiday. This is my third ride since with the first two being absolute killers 🥵

Brilliant riding. If your bike can do it then so can mine 😏. Maybe have to do it midweek when not as many walkers but picking a day when its dry sunny and not windy is another entirely different thing 🥴, excuses, excuses 😂
I'm so jealous of the weather you had, when I went up Walna Scar last year the weather was horrendous, couldn't see a thing when I got to the top haha! But that's one ride I will never forget. I definitely need to go up again when the weather is better
What doesn't kill you makes you stronger. Not sure where your based but Coniston is 1hr 20 for me so I can pretty much decide on the day if its worth going high and if its not I usually have low level options up my sleeve. I was more worried about my legs due to lack of riding 🤔
@@mtbnorthwestengland aye I’m not too far away either, but I was staying in a lodge near there and it was my last full day and I hadn’t been on my bike yet, I knew it was going to be rainy and windy so just firmed it and went for the ride anyway. Was really something else! I ride pretty much every weekend so I knew my legs were up to it, but still was hike a bike stuff getting up to the top of Walna scar
Proper ride that.Ive climbed that route what you descended the old man in the past so know exactly what it’s like.definitely wouldn’t want to get it wrong riding down it😂
Up there with the most technical descents in the lakes you can have a go at 👌
Have you tried over from summit over Swirl How & down Prison Band? Got my eye on that so any inside info always welcome
Couple of videos on my channel, prison band has tech levels to keep anybody occupied. If your not such a good technical rider you are not likely to enjoy it and likely almost all a push down which I detest. Choose a clear day for it, the views across the fells are outstanding. If you have the legs go up onto Wetherlam and do the descent down to hole rake brilliant flowing descent with some nice tech here and there with cracking views over Coniston 👌

To many people was the same when I did it they have right of way does my head in when you have to stop every 20 sec
Always too many people on there, you can only hope they move when you shout STRAVA 😂

Sketchy shit is Ladybower in the wet, that was a breeze in comparison. It was just a bit rough in a few places 😆
