Hanging out with my puppy at my log cabin in the woods. Chopping firewood and cleaning up a creek.
Now that the worst of the winter weather is done, Mocha and I head down for a camping weekend at the cabin.
I'm completely out of firewood, and it's time to start getting some proper wood piles built.
Previously, I cleaned up the moss on the front, but I still need to do 3 more walls of the cabin. It's actually not a project I like doing at all, so I'm spreading it out over a few trips! Getting a second wall finished makes me happy, and really helps with the draft.
There's a section of the property that's pooling water. There's a small creek already established to help it drain, but it's been neglected for years and has become blocked with fallen trees and debris. It's warm enough and there's no bugs, so it's a good time to get started on that!
It was a very chill trip and I had a great time just hanging out with my puppy and chopping wood.
Thanks for joining us!

Working on a bridge, kitchen drain, roof supports and I make a holiday wreath. Cozy log cabin build!
zhlédnutí 700Před 7 měsíci
The second half of what ended up being a very busy weekend. I add some extra support beams for the roof in case there's a heavy snow fall. This is about half of the supports I'm going to put in, but I have to leave some screw driving for another trip! I install a kitchen drain! This is a test with a piece of hose to see if it works in concept. I will be replacing the sink with a nicer one and p...
Building the hearth wall, installing screens and I tidy the moss on the front of my cozy log cabin!

In this episode I finish the wall surrounding the hearth, but the weather is too cold to do more mortar work. The last gap between the hearth and the log wall will need to wait until spring. The hearth itself also needs more work done. It leaks smoke in a few spots and the front opening is too tall. Smoke pours out the front and fills the cabin. I'm going to get that fixed next time, or I won't...

Mocha and I spend a very rainy weekend indoors working on the hearth at our cozy log cabin in the woods. It's complete, but I ran out of supplies before I could build out the wall above and around it. If I don't get another visit with good weather I'll have to think of a temporary fix until the spring. The hearth has a stove top, a hot water tank with a spigot, a drain at the back in case rain ...
Building a hearth/fireplace, finishing the roof and installing skylights. My cozy log cabin build.

Hello! On this trip I got my roof construction finished and installed the skylights. I have to put shingles on, but that can be done during the winter. I also get started on my hearth. First step was to get rid of that very lousy and very temporary wall from behind the wood stove! If the weather can cooperate for another visit or two I'll be able to stay warm this year with a nice toasty fire. ...

The roof has taken ages! During these last two trips down I finally got the front and back walls built as high as they are going and trimmed to shape for the roofline. Mocha and I are back to camp after we skipped out on the hottest/buggiest part of the summer! A buddy had a big stack of pallets I was able to break down and I'm using them to fill in the roof. Gorgeous weather this time as Mocha and I get started building a proper outhouse. I still have to build walls, a little floor, a roof. You know all the luxurious parts. A door. Are you trying to get someone killed? Please take Propane out of the title. Helium is inert, lighter than air and will evacuate the tank. Propane is highly flammable, heavier than air & will pool at the bottom of any tank for years, and still explode with minimal ignition.
