Building a DIY wood stove from a helium/propane tank. No welding! Great for a log cabin or tiny home

- Hi! I made a wood stove for the log cabin I'm building in the woods. It's made out of a helium tank which is just a little smaller than a regular BBQ propane tank.
This is my first time working with metal and I had a lot of fun with this project! I don't have the tools or experience to weld, so the whole thing had to be done with nuts and bolts! The trickiest spot was the chimney, the hole had to be very snug all around to avoid welding! I'm using 2.5" car exhaust pipes for the chimney.
After a first test fire, it was clear it wasn't getting enough airflow. I added a second adjustable vent on the other side and a row of permanently open holes at the front.
Check out the episode linked at the end where I install it in my cabin in the woods, and if you're interested how that's going click subscribe!
Thanks for watching, take care! - Jak na to + styl
as someone who's making a small cabin to live in this is honestly an inspiration. thank you!
Thanks very much! I have no metalwork experience, but figured as long as I could stick to nuts and bolts instead of welding it would work out. Very approachable project for beginners like me!
Just built one myself using a 19kg propane tank absolutely no welding involved and I can remove and refit the flue. Made it to use in my garden or on camping trips
very good kamina
Talk about patience! Turned out nice though, and perfect idea for someone without a welder!
Thanks very much for checking out the video!
@@WoodlyDad don't say thanks,,,,it was a pleasure,,, thanks to YOU 👍👍👏👏😊💯
Well done! Can't wait to see it in action. 🔥
Installed it today, we'll see how it goes tonight!
On today's episode of: "You can build anything with a dremel..." Just kidding, looks really good. I have seen people who cut the hinge side, install the hinges and then cut the rest. This ensures the door will always be lined up and open straight. (Just a suggestion.)
Good suggested,,,I like that 👍👍💯
Maybe fire cloth between the door strips
Nice work!
Did in action 😂 nut good result
Wat een geweldige video. Zo creatief. ❤️👍
@@ligiamaria7953 Nice talking,,, thanks for support him 👍👏😊🌹💯
Do you think the latch will offgas anything tho? Awesome build. Subbed
It's a pretty small unit and not a very hot fire, but I did keep it in mind the first few times firing it up. I don't smell anything when the door's closed and I smell a lovely woodfire when it's open!
Thanks, take care!
Suggest getting a 120 mm hand held grinder rather than your small grinder. You’ll save money on using the small curing wheels.
Yeah, you're right, I should look into picking up an angle grinder. And I should probably learn welding...!
@@WoodlyDad With the skills you have,,,, you dont need a welder😊😊🌹💯
That’s clever! I’ve got 2 questions if that’s ok?
1. What size is the helium tank?
2. Is it safe to work on the tank, by just releasing the helium as you did? I know propane tanks need all kinds of extra precautions, eg flushing with water.
Hi, thanks for watching!
It's just a little smaller than a standard bbq propane tank. Helium doesn't burn or explode like propane. Much safer to handle!
I was wandering the same thing today! That’s why I googled how to do this. I was scared to just cut into it! Lol thank you
Hey buddy I got a spare old hole saw for ya and I'll even let ya use my sawzall
How much for you to make me one ?
Can one use pop rivets instead of nuts and bolts?
Probably, I've never worked with pop rivets. I just used to use them as lego people swords!
@@WoodlyDadhaha, yes
@@WoodlyDad I think you can,,,if they are stainless so they dont melting from the Heat,,,,p,s I liked Your video 👍👍👏👏🌹💯
