Even as a 12 year old child I knew this was not a good movie. The effects are the best of their kind and were never duplicated, but the script is so full of cliches, and some of the acting is questionable. Ava Gardner comes to mind first. Canadian director Mark Robson does a good job considering what he had to deal with in terms of a screenplay, but to be fair the movie is called “Earthquake” and not “Shakespeare”. But I still love it and cherish the memories of Sensurround shaking the entire theater.

You should also checkout abalanche. Best disaster scenes to chuckle at.

It looked pretty lame....even back in '74' They pushed the idea of 'SENSURROUND' to get us sitting in theaters to see it. Horrible special effects.

Both Kim Cattrell and G. W. Bailey were in the first Police Academy movie.

There's a Sequel to this Movie called Road House 2: Last Call (2006)

This was a highly popular movie when it came out. Unlike now it was about a love story and wasn't meant to be historically accurate. The ratings site reflect the younger critics who, love to point out the inaccuracies historically and cheesy nature of the movie, because now very little in entertainment is truly funny anymore because of PC culture. Who are they to say what is correct. Someone writes a story from their own perspective and if it is fictional who are you to come in and criticize historical inaccuracies when it was a fictional story to begin with. People are so over analytical these days even when it's fictional it has to be racially accurate or people's heads explode. I loved this movie and we all knew the Egypt scenes weren't completely accurate, but neither was a mannequin coming to life in the real world, so we adjusted and enjoyed. I love your reaction.

I love mannequin one if my favourite films

even though Hollywood was a stereotypical gay man, he is the most like the gay people I’ve ever met or known in my life or on CZcams. Like you said, they use a couple slurs against him, but the main character stuck up for him (“could’ve put me on with a bigoted jerk”) and wasn’t bothered by him being gay so that was pretty progressive for an 80’s movie.

If you haven't yet check out Airport. Another great 70's film.

I was 15 when this movie came out in 1972. I am now 66 and it is still #1, and always will be.

I am like you man. I get it. No family or friends. So, watching films like this brings me back to happier times and I get emotional. I normally hate sequels, but this was a great film. The original cast was back, the original sets. But at the same time, it was its own story and did not try to mimic the original film. I think the end where we are taken back to the beginning of the first film was a nice touch. The only character I wish was in this was the teacher.

Disaster movies usually have one thing in common, middle-aged women are usually killed off. Shelley Winters in The Poseidon Adventure, Jennifer Jones in Towering Inferno, Ava Gardner in Earthquake and Lee Grant and Maidie Norman in Airport 77. Very upsetting that this happens.

This movie is great! The 2006 remake is great, if you get the chance to react to it on your channel and let us know which movie you liked better.

Interesting that no fireman or architect mentioned getting out of the building before it collapsed into its own footprint. They even detonated the water tanks on top of the structure without worrying if it would lead to the whole building coming down.....

There's an irritating know it all kid in every 70s movie

Marjoe Gortner, known professionally as Marjoe, who plays the psycho pervert Jody, was trained from toddlerhood to be a revivalist evangelical preacher. This was AFTER he had left that life and renounced it, writing a memoir about it and becoming a musician and actor. He did not return to that life and become a preacher after this movie or any other time as of now (2023). He is now in his late 70s and still does some acting gigs.

Quite funny watching you get so into this film, I watch it in the 1970s and yes enjoyed it , this "raise the Titanic " or "the great escape"were Easter films in the days when we only had one channel on the TV and no video recorders here in Scotland . Thankyou that was lovely to watch you and the film again
