Building Better Wipers – Pro Touring V8 Powered Triumph Build – Project GT6R – Ep39
Today we're going to finish building our custom wiper system!
After the adventures last episode, it should come as no surprise that a very special drive system was in order for our new stainless arms ... why didn't we just use a donor system, or at the very least, parts of a donor system? Well, the closest parts I could find were old, expensive and gross... anything newer doesn't play well with the inherit design complications that the GT6 creates.
So we rolled the dice and decided to do what we always do, build it!
This concludes our foray into wipers though, so stay tuned to see what's coming next!

How Pedal Systems work (it’s complicated)
zhlédnutí 11KPřed 3 měsíci
Ever wonder how pedals are designed? Let's take a look! Our #GT6R project has required a lot of work over the years, but lately, we've been building completely bespoke pedals ... and who knew they would be so involved?! Drive by cable throttle pedals need an appropriate ratio to actuate the throttle body fully, whereas drive by wire pedals can be programmed to have "curves" in the throttle map ...

Today we're going to finish off our custom brake and clutch pedal setup! This all started as an off the shelf 90 degree pedal box (sometimes called an "under dash" configuration) though it's had a few dozen hours of alterations put into it, to make it what we have now! It's been a lot of work learning how to calculate pedal ratios, find ideal master cylinder sizes, and we've ultimately had to d...

Well it's been too long, but during our break, we've been working on... the brakes! So let's see what that looks like. It's been an answered question for a while now, but due to the size of our Crown Victoria and C4 Corvette brake calipers, we've chosen to add power assistance in an effort to hit our long term goals. That being, a balanced car, where the throttle, steering, clutch and (yes) bra...

Let's see if we can *steer* ourselves in the right direction today! After years of planning and implementing ideas, we've finally arrived at the point where steering is necessary... Harmonic balancers do not have a taper. They are bolted on with a key that holds the lower cam sprocket as well so a taper cannot be used.

    • @FanatikBuilds
      @FanatikBuilds Před 19 dny

      Keyways are not always used actually, they may be the norm but not when it comes to LS engines at least... ls1tech.com/forums/generation-iv-internal-engine/1860124-crank-snout-gouged-scored-balancer.html ... our aftermarket balancer has one, but the crank does not. The keyway for the oil pump gear stops short of the snout. You can drill and pin it in order to run a supercharger but that's not how these are equipped from factory. I did misspeak on calling it a taper though ... as another viewer mentioned, these use a press-fit connection. Apologies. ✌

House move, kiddo and a garage build have rather got in the way! Getting there on the last of those though and itching to get the Spit sorted after that. @@FanatikBuilds Oh, and if you hit 2500lbs then your power to weight (accounting for the driver) would be about on par with a MK1 Viper (or an E92 M3) with a totally unmodified LS4, a C7 Stingray (or F80 M3) at 350hp, or being very ambitious a Charger Hellcat (or a 991 GT3 RS) at 400hp 😳 Power-to-drag is interesting too as the GT6 is quite a slippery shape and small. 187mph estimated top speed at 303hp (again E90 M3, or a TVR Sagaris), 197mph at 350hp (again C7 Stingray, or a Ferrari F40), or 206mph at 400hp (997 GT2 or Challenger Hellcat).

Just nuts!

    • @FanatikBuilds
      @FanatikBuilds Před 18 dny

      Love the numbers, thanks Simon! With the mods we've got in store, I'd say it's got to be a very bad day for our LS4 to not make 400hp! 😬 It's honestly more than I was initially planning for, and the clutch is now our weakest link (rated 354lb/ft) ... I am increasingly doubtful that it will be an issue though, as traction in 1st and 2nd will be limited, and topping out 3rd will be excessive for the street. (5th is geared for 216mph!) If we ever plan on tracking it someday though, a puck style friction disk will be in order! I’m sure when this car is done it will be the baddest and best GT 6 ever built. But holy cow dude, it’s been nine years, it seems to me you don’t want to finish this project, you just want to keep it going forever. I know you want to keep your channel going, but you shouldn’t be afraid to finish this one and start another one if that’s what your motivation is.

    There’s a reason why so many people choose an LS for a swap. Actually there’s about a dozen reasons.

    The part that transfers the motion 90 degrees is called a bell crank. These are frequently used on clutch actuators on semi trucks. They’re about the same size in case you had any concerns about durability

    Ahhh! There's nothing quite like overkill, buddy!!! Looking pretty dang sweet there, Mike! I would have watched this earlier, but I have the attention span of a... ooh look, a squirrel! ...gnat 😅 Only if I don't control it, though!!! Cheers. Leigh.

      @@FanatikBuilds Ford! Vauxhall (GM)... there are a handful in Canada... they were marketed as Pontiac Firenza from 1972 to 1974, but rust & reliability issues saw them axed... Vauxhall products were never sold on that continent from that day forth 🤣🤣🤣

      The segment you're referring to was before the tubing was trimmed down to size, so the grounding clamp was actually on the backside of the headstock. Thanks for keeping an eye out for us though! ✌

    Awesome job!!! I have picked up an MX5 NC wiper assembly and I did not know why the connecting tube is bent, now I know. I'm building a Locost from scratch.

      I'm sure there's more than one reason to design it that way, but I'm glad it worked for us! Nice one! I love those cars, have fun with your project! 😎✌
