Woodworking can be fun, exciting and challenging - and it can also be VERY frustrating. Most times, that frustration hits when our current skills don't match up to our aspirations and goals to make that next project. My channel is focused on sharing skills, tips, tricks and how-to videos. I look forward to engaging with others that love the craft of woodworking.
How to Cut Tenons with a Track Saw
In this video, I demonstrate two methods of how to cut tenons without a table saw. A few months ago, I made a post to the Woodworking for Beginners Facebook group simply saying "The track saw makes the tablesaw obsolete - change my mind". The amount of uproar and misguided responses were proof enough to me that I needed to demonstrate the versatility of a track saw and guide rail.

Systainer storage and horizontal workspace was an issue in my small workshop and not many designs I could find online met the functional features I needed. Festool Domino Layout | MultiMark Jig

In this video, I share a jig I made to help alight the festool domino on all my panels and carcasses. There's certainly nothing wrong with a good old fashioned tape measure and square, however I value my time in the shop. Small, minute tasks certainly add up over time, and if you have quite a few panels to join, having jig that saves time without sacrificing accuracy is always a win in my book....

How to Calibrate the Festool MFT3 with Trimming Attachments

In this video, I'm going to show you how to calibrate the festool MFT3 with trimming attachments. This is vital if you want to use the accurate flagstops when making large crosscuts. Accounting for the width of the blade on your tracksaw removes the need to add or subtract the blade width from your cut dimensions. Great thing is you don't really need many tools to set up accurate cuts. I hope t...

Thanks for your video is this setup can handle weight for put resin slab on it and do sled router system?
Thanks for sharing this. I'm new to woodworking and never considered breaking down materials at the lumber yard.
Glad to help
Ordered the ones on bangood, been a sponsor for festool way to long. I think other brands are way to expensive to. If i had the time i made my own guide rails
Good Video.. I want to say the following. You can buy them if ya want. I have found them to be no more accurate that what you can make yourself on a decent table saw and router table
That's true, but not everyone wants to make them themselves. I've gone through the stage of 'making my own jigs' in my workshop, and I just no longer want to do that lol. I'd rather just pay for some used ones and be done with it!
That’s so simple I don’t know why I didn’t think of that before thanks for posting this. I almost bought like $100 tool to do the same thing pushing the cuts out past the table and the other direction too though
Nice! Glad it helped!
Thank You Ben for this very helpful Video. You are Great Bro . Greetings from Wonderful Vienna . Thumbs up 👍and y follow your Channel .
Awesome, thank you!
Hello, do this method work for rips thick of 2 mm for example?
Technically yes
So happy that I found this video. I picked up a Domino XL 500 this past Christmas and this jig will go great with it~! Still getting used to it, but that's the fun of it, right? Thanks for this great idea~!
Enjoy!
You need to get more lights in your basement. I think I only see one!
I did
Guess what most production shops use. A table saw, it's not even the sliding table saw, just the regular cabinet type. Nothing beats a good table saw for repeatability and other types of cuts. Edit. You first cut to size and rip to precision. There's going to be waste irrespective of method used. Table saw is faster and involves no setup between very small and large pieces
not everyone has the space for a tablesaw. A track saw, guides, and track take up considerably less space and are more mobile than tablesaws.
The new connector is so much better
Toyota Prius ❤ love it. I feel so silly as I have the tundra and I was thinking how am I going to load it in the back with the tools 😂😂😂
lol
Maybe I’m overthinking this, but I’m having a pretty hard time getting my guides properly calibrated. For some reason I can’t just make the mark like you do on top and calibrate that way. I’m off by about 1mm. I take a square and match the line so that my track saw blade(in fast fix mode) is right off to the side of it. Yet I’m still off by 1mm. Do you think maybe I should draw 2 lines (2mm apart from each other) and try to set my blade right in between them?
Maybe? Usually these small issues are user error
@@BenMarshallDesigns I totally agree. Since then, I think I was finally able to dial it in near perfectly.
genious
Not a good video if you are looking for immediate and inexpensive options. . .
uh huh!
I found out that Ben is no longer doing woodworking videos and has moved on. Was wondering if anyone who has commented on Ben's video on his sysBench would happen to have Ben's plans for his sysBENch? I would pay for his plans if someone here would have them....thanks

Best method from all the ones I tried to square my MFT, so simple an dead on square after. Thank you.
nice!
That saves me a fortune in bags. I have to Festool dust extractors, one for workshop, one for site work. Whenever either bag is full I attach the dust separator and suck out the dust from a full bag. Then just dump the dust from the tub later. Nice video
I'd advise that you just shell out the cash for additional bags - over time it will clog up eventually and could put more strain on your motor.
When its fully opened out, os it the same height as the Mf3
Yes. Festool has all surfaces to 900mm
There set seems like a lot of work and very expensive to me
most are pretty pricey, no matter the brand
outstanding information to consider. and from a fellow Vet Thank you for your service

I'm glad i watched your video. I was thinking about buying a set of parallel guides, but your video helped me realize that while a set would be nice to have, they're not a necessity. Good job on the video.
Glad I could help. It's definitely something that fits if you're in a specific situation.
Thank you Ben, I just saw your video and like you I don’t have much room but the two extensions are useful and very practical. Thank you very much for your time for making this great video
Glad it was helpful!
Thank you for this! I work in a 120sq ft workshop and also can't fit a table saw. I use the MFT and have been trying to figure out an efficient way to do this. This video is a great help!

I have also ctl26 sometime full up quickly.my question is just change reservoir bottom reservoir change with 48 liter less cost than cyclone and more effective no?
You don't have to replace bags as often if you use the cyclone - over time it is cheaper
Hello, Ben! This one is a Masterpiece! Thank You!

Your video just came up on my feed. Nice job! You might take a look at an old animation that I made to perform this same task. If you do, please turn ON closed caption. What brought me here is I'm trying to figure out if/how I can transport a few 12' 2x4's in/on a midsized SUV without paying the guys that hang out in the Home Depot parking lot.
good to know!

Festool HL850 planer
Find a place to break down the goods at the local Lowes would be the hardest part. Especially if you have to plug in a track saw.
yep, I have a cordless tracksaw now - quite handy
Would love to see a video of one of your trips to the lumber yard with you breaking down sheets for transport in the Prius.
I have a story highlight on my instagram showing the break down of some sheet goods, should be on my account page

Thank you for your service, great insights
Much appreciated
Nice summary of ideas for hauling wood. One alternative approach to the on-site breakdown: instead of trying to cut precisely, use a cordless jig saw to cut to rough dimensions. This is quick and easy if you're willing to do finish cuts back in your shop.
Yep! I've done that before, just depends on the project and how much wiggle room you have with components

Just a bit of constructive criticism for your video. The first part where you were talking was soft so I turned the volume up but then the intro with your logo came in which was piercingly high pitched and loud.
thanks! this was early in my CZcams journey, audio can be hard to get just right in the beginning
How do i do this on the DF 700?
principle is the same, just with different pin locations
Had these myself for over 10 years and was unaware of the option to attach to other Festool stations. Obvious now you have pointed it out and all Festool units are at 900mm from FFL so why didn't I realise this sooner? The one disadvantage though is that the rail has its own "fence" and is not therefore completely flat and in the same plane as the Festool station that it is attached to. No matter, thanks for the insight and I will be making some use of the new piece of knowledge.
yeah they can get in the way, especially if your sheet good is wider than the MFT, still pretty cool they can be used on multiple tables
