  • Here are 5 things I don’t like about the Kapex Extensions (Trimming Attachments). For the sake of being objective, and hopefully providing some purchasing decision power to anyone who is considering these attachments - I’ve come up with a few things I don’t like about them. To be honest, there’s not a whole lot I l don’t like about them - and had difficulty thinking of some reasons I don’t like them. These have changed the way I process project materials in my shop, especially with sheet goods, and I could not recommend them enough.

    Ben, well done and great info. I believe the information will be valuable for some and others could care less, but the important thing is someone got value out of your video... I did

    I have the full UG set up and mft3, and had the same issue with the attachment clamp to the mft. I took the clamp apart and elongated the hole, for the threaded bolt, which allows the retaining plate to slide in the extra distance to grip the mft profile. It doesn't affect the clamp in any way adversely. Hope this helps. Regards, Alan

      Thanks for the info! Someone else recommended a longer bolt, however I like how your way sounds - don't have to worry about buying anything extra to make it fit.

    Made the mistake of going with the Kreg system. Saw broke after using twice. Selling and buying all festool from now on. Looking forward to you videos. Thanks

      Yep, I've been burned by plenty of other brands before as well. I've been using Festool for the last 3+ years and I've yet to be let down. It's a great system of tools.

    Good on ya mate 👌 I feel like alot of kapex users buy the attachments because of the brand on it.. I personally use the dewalt stand which is a all in one system and it doesn't matter if the timber isn't straight. Also I use roller stands so I have 6m either side of the saw blade.

      At the end of the day, it's just a tool - person behind it is what's important. Every tool has it's advantages and disadvantages, it's the one that'll get the job done that matters most. I agree, that people get caught up in the brand - doesn't really matter. Whatever works for you, works for you. Appreciate you taking the time to watch and comment. Cheers!

      For me it’s not just the portability and taking up less space/weight but the integrated rule with ability to set end stops for repeatable cuts of varying lengths.

    • @BenMarshallDesigns
      @BenMarshallDesigns  Před 3 lety

      @@bugsysiegals Yep same here. Honestly there isn't anything, that I've found, that integrates so well with the saw that has ALL the capabilities here. There are better trimming attachments that have a better ruler, and aren't portable - or others that are really portable but don't have a ruler or flag stop. It's the best for everything it offers.

    On a sidenote, when I set up my extension wings the metal part underneath slides forward for a full grab of the wing under the v groove, and I learned this from watching your video, it literally needs to b manually pushed forward then it gets a full grab. If you have any questions on this hit me up on gmail. I thought the same thing you mentioned and as I was jiggling it, it just slid forward significantly. Overall good video and insights.

      @@BenMarshallDesigns What is really "crazy" is I accidentally discovered this cause I watched your video.
      Also, I just bought my second Festool Kpex mitre saw, you might want to look into the extra tall mitre fences from CFS Fabricating, link here below.

    Then there are 100 good things about it. I really don’t like one sided analysis of a product. Usually these analysis in CZcams are heavily lopsided. They may say it is pretty good. So I buy them only to be disappointed like Gen 1 Milwaukee nailer. Then people hate the cheap Ryobi nailer, and I find them extremely functional and overall great quality. Yeah, I was skeptical of its price. But it turned out better than Dewalt flywheel nailer or Gen 1 Milwaukee nailer. They’re absolutely a junk. But people praise Dewalt and Milwaukee gen 1 nailer.
    By the way, Milwaukee absolutely nailed the gen 2 nailers.

    • @BenMarshallDesigns
      @BenMarshallDesigns  Před 3 lety +3

      All very true. I made this video AFTER my video on why I LOVE them. I wanted to be objective about the product, and didn't want to chunk it all in one video. I think there is a problem with expectation management when it comes to tools - either that or people purchase them and it doesn't meet their needs. Tool research can carry anyone a long ways, but only if it's done with earnest. Hopefully you were able to get a return on the tools that weren't up to your standards/needs. Many times I've had to return tools for the same reasons you mentioned. I'm not much for nailers, so I take your word for it on the Milwaukee. I might have some house renovations in the future, will have to give them a gander. Which model do you have?

      True! Hate is a strong word - I felt that I needed to be objective about these as people spend some serious coin on them. I absolutely LOVE these and would not want to have a shop sans them!

      @@BenMarshallDesigns Thanks, but I'll pass on that. One thing I can tell you is I'm seriously considering buying the Kapex combo set, which is on sale until Oct. 31/2020 for $1995. It looks like the whole package including crown stops and an additional clamp can push the price close to $2500, plus sales tax. I'm having serious doubts the convenience of several very nice design features on the Kapex are worth the extra cost compared to a Dewalt, Makita, Bosch, or Milwaukee. That's not to say I won't buy a Kapex.

    • @BenMarshallDesigns

      @@stevew3978 I orginially purchased the complete set back in the spring - since it was never delivered I jumped on the chance to pick up just the saw and then later the trimming attachments. That bundle deal is a steal in my book - $500 discount!?!? I've not used any other compound miter saws (except a Kobalt years ago) - I've not regretted that purchase decision.

      @@BenMarshallDesigns I did end up placing an order for the Kapex combo package with stand and extension legs just before the sale was to expire on midnight 10/31. I ordered it from Highland Woodworking. The package will be delivered in Jan/2021. Festool is having me hooked (and I hope only for all the right reasons). Now I'm eyeing a Festool Carvex.

      @@stevew3978 ohhhh man!!! Thy slippery slope hath begun!!!!! I've got the carvex, love it too. Most of use Festool owners have yet to find where they hide the cocaine in all the tools!!! That's a long ways to wait, better man than me!! It'll be worth it though - I wish I had the stand now (or the MFT Kapex). What I have will do for now, but I'll get either eventually.
