    I am new to rowing (learned last year at age 60). I’m getting ready for my first race (a head race) in October. My coach referred me to your videos. They have been extremely helpful. Your last 10 minutes talking about shortening the catch was particularly helpful because couldn’t figure out why I wasn’t getting faster. Cheers, mate!

    Eric, just going back and watching this Q&A at the end again. Just saw you have a TV on the wall.... If you have room to set up the rower sideways to the TV, then you might be able to record you on the rower and the force curve mirrored to the TV. You might be able to use your phone instead of your camera to focus in on the force curve and then 'screen mirror' the phone to the TV. The screen mirror is pretty low latency.

    Is there any hard sessions you’ll find most clubs do as in 500s, 750s, 1ks with 1-3mins rests and a set rate. I thinking how to work out what splits to aim for set pieces you guys do in this app as rate varies a lot. The common 500s or 5mins etc are easier to know a rough split to hold?

    Thank-you for quick reply and info. I use ErgData and the C2 PM5 for all rows, then go to C2 logbook for the data. I think showing consolidated force curve info over time would be very useful especially as fatigue sets in. Really this would be great training tool.

  • @rickharkins1750
    @rickharkins1750 Před 3 měsíci

    Thanks Coach, good workout. I use the force curve for all my workouts. Is there a way to get more analytics from the force curve? There should be an equation that describes the "smoothness" of the curve, right? I enjoyed the time you took to show the curves that you generated, very useful. Thanks.

    • @asensei
      @asensei Před 3 měsíci

      You are correct. Currently there are some 3rd party apps that do it. I’ve asked C2 if they are able to do that and provide an “overall” shape for the workout. So you would then see a trend of what you did for the “x” time or distance. But I don’t think that is in ErgData at this stage. The he logbook decides a graph of the workout and shows rating/speed, so you can see the increase/decrease of speed.

    Thanks so much.. if I understand correctly developing power is the base to the higher rate race pieces. This time of year there is a clamour for ‘higher rate’ pieces with long rests but I think that misses the point that first higher rate without technique and power is not effective (causes injuries?). Developing power and have short rests develops Vo2 max, effective power and technique? Or am I wrong and if you want to race 1k in 5-6 weeks say just do lots of rate 34 etc 4min pieces?

    I have a waterrower with the old style monitor and the asensei cannot connect to it. So, it seems like waste of an app (which is quite pricey - incredibly pricey - for an app). They say they connect to WaterRowers, Concept 2 and many other machines. But clearly, not all! And if you have an older or different rower, you cannot even use the app in manual mode! Which renders it dead.

    • @asensei
      @asensei Před 4 měsíci

      Hi, the asensei app does connect to the S4 monitor with the Bluetooth ComModule attachment. We don't currently allow the app to work without the bluetooth connection because so much of it is built around monitoring your progress and setting you goals and challenges in real time. We're really sorry you can't use the app but if your WaterRower is not compatible then our CZcams channel is available to all for free.

    Excellent video and probably the gold standard in terms of bringing everything together on the what, why, how and when for warming up. The only question I would have is how you would use or adapt this to erg competition when for example the Aussie indoor titles when you have 3 races in the day being the 2km, 1km and 500m and you want to do all of them and the rest between races is 2 hours. Taking into consideration that post each of the first two races a solid warm down will be needed to push that lactate around and out. How would you amend the warmup in before race 1, between race 1 and 2 and then race 2 and 3?

    • @asensei
      @asensei Před 5 měsíci

      for multiple races, it would depend on the structure, 2km then 2k, then 500 or whatever order they have. You just need to be in the right place for "optimal" output. Most of the time its experience and finding out what works for an individual, but general rule of thumb, is the experience. know when you do trainings, how long in you start to really fire on all cylinders. At the end of the day, if your doing a 1k, its 3-4mins of work. so if you get close to youre spot of feeling comfotable with rate, speed, power, then thats your spot. But t does take 'time' to get to that point. With multiple races, fatigue is your enemy, so warming down properly with active recovery for 20mins or so after a piece is more important than doing nothing, then trying to 'warm up' for the next one. if you revoer well, then your warmup will be an adapiton of the first one, to get you into that same space. it could be more paddling and less building piece and almost quicker getting to race rate.
