      It's true, one time I grabbed an engine from a truck that had a smashed windshield covered in dried blood. I was in my garage working on it and something was just a little off. About that time the Brujo next door came over to drink some beers. While he took one look at the engine and started yelling in Spanish and making what looked like gang signs in the air. I don't remember what all he said except he kept chanting "Conductor Diabolico! CONDUCTOR DIABOLICO!" I threw that engine right in the trash can that night, made a pretty loud thump the next morning when they dumped it in the back of the garbage truck.

    I'm interested in your setup? Trying to figure out my options. I already have a Daikin mini split installation at my house. It has 2 internal units and one external unit model: 2MXS24RMVJUA. Unfortunately it takes 240V ac input power. The label says "compressor motor 15.5A" so 3720W I guess. I'm assuming I'll need a 4000W+ setup to power it once I add in the power consumption of the internal units. I don't know how much power is used when it is run as a heat pump vs when it's run as an air conditioner. If I got 400W panels, how many do you think I'd need to be able to run this year round. I'm in southern CA, so generally pretty sunny year round. I'm considering a 120/240V split phase inverter to give me the option of potentially powering other 110V things as well but I'm still researchign and learning. Another question I have is, what happens when the cloud cover is such that the panels don't generate enough power. If the battery runs low will it just underpower the minisplit system or will it shut itself off? Is that bad for the minisplit system? I'm currently on the grid and am hoping to set up a DIY solar system that never feeds the grid. Is there a way that the minisplit system could automatically be switched back to grid power if my solar/battery system isn't providing enough power? Do you have any tips for me as a noob? Thanks!

    I've watched this a few times a have 2 questions. Why not swap the hat from the S10 to the Silverado bucket? Are the internal connectors the same (looks like it at 2:00)? Reason 1 is that the float position to alignment tab looks wrong and at ~7:30 when you pull it out it looks like the float would be hitting the side of the tank, and 2, the seal would be a non-issue.

    This EFI stuff is out of my wheelhouse of expertise but I'm finally after decades thinking of messing around with this brand new EFI thing! Just kidding (I'm a shhhhh carb guy) but if you were going to try n make more power with factory parts would the flex injectors be capable of a bit more HP? I'm guessing they're larger for the ethanol? I'm one of those people that when they get interested in something I just absorb every bit of info I can do I was just wondering. Getting into boost is just so much easier with EFI and blow thru carbs are really expensive so I gotta figure this all out.

    • @wilsworkshop
      @wilsworkshop Před 14 dny

      The flex flow 36 lb/hr. Non-flex 24 lb/hr. I usually use the flex ones with up to a "stage 2" cam with regular gas. They usually work for about 6 lbs of boost also depending on cam. Beyond that you'll need de-caps or aftermarket injectors. Once you realize EFI is identical to a carb, but better, you'll never want a carb again. A carb can only be tuned for one tempature/rpm/altitude set of variables, but EFI is like having 100 carbs that get swapped out every time the rpm or other variable changes. EFI is max power at every step of the rpm range instead of a carb tuned for a narrow power band and "good enough" at the other parts. I swapped to EFI 20+ years ago and literally threw my boxes of carbs in the trash.

    • @MrBtchplz
      @MrBtchplz Před 18 dny

      A Vortec is essentially an LS. Just different branding depending on vehicle. (Truck vs Car) If u have a vortec, u have an LS.

    • @wilsworkshop
      @wilsworkshop Před 18 dny

      There's multiple versions of the Vortec engines going back to the 4.3L In 1985. the 1999+ 4.8, 5.3, 6.0 share the same architecture as the LS1 rpo code engines and most parts are interchange between the two. They have 2 different applications, truck vs car, but are extremely similar in design. It's more correct to call them "ls engines" then Vortec, since Vortec swaps always refered to 4.3s and SBC 350 engines with Vortec heads in the 90's. Even the L31 Vortec 350 survived in vans until 2002, overlapping the LS based Vortec engines.

    • @wilsworkshop
      @wilsworkshop Před 22 dny

      Yep. The wiring is really basic for the fans and power. What you would need is a way to trigger the two ground wires that normally run to the computer. A cheap electric fan thermostat like you would use on an aftermarket fan would work. All the 2 wires need are a ground connection for the fan relays to switch on.

    • @wilsworkshop
      @wilsworkshop Před 22 dny

      A 6.0L with a 4L80e is hard to beat for that budget range. Should be around 1-1.2k for a running 6.0L and another 1k for a good 4l80e. Nearly bulletproof combination and the truck would have a higher resale value then a 5.3L / 4L60e combo if you ever need to sell it.

  • @lchitman
    @lchitman Před 22 dny

    Your Pull a Part must be better than mine. I grabbed the fans and harness and they charged me $65 since they sell the harness separate. Heck, while looking online they have prices for airbags but you pull a steering wheel and the air bag and they take it since they have a deal worked out with a guy that buys them locally. Heck, any sets of wheels worth having they pull for sale or if they are aluminum they yank them and sell them to the recycle place as aluminum scrap. I snagged a set of aluminum rims off a AMG they hadn't been able to get off the car and I played hell getting them pointing out what the sits says and that I would call the corporation entity and report it. Instead of the quality grading they have listed on the site they made me pay the aluminum scrap value.

    Does the LS3 suffer from this issue as well..? I have a 2010 Chevy Camaro with a mid 2009 production date, so it probably has the pre-revised (driver’s side) valve cover if anything. My question though, is if the (older) LS3 (non-AFM/DOD) requires this? The manual/non-AFM/DOD LS3 engines don’t have the PCV routing that the L99 engines in the automatic/DOD equipped 5th gen (10-15) Camaro V8’s have. Instead of PCV routing all the way to the rear driver side valve cover, mine is simply capped off from the factory… On top of that, I was planning to swap out my stock valley cover plate and gasket for it, due to excessive oil blow-by. I noticed this issue after installing an oil catch can; where the catch can would fill up 70-75% of the way, with every ~200-250 miles of driving or so!

      A 1999 3500 should be a 6.0L if it's a LS engine. The only downside is the 99-00 6.0's usually have cast iron heads instead of aluminum. Just extra weight and less desirable is all, doesn't really hurt the horsepower.
