So what I learned: Go to junkyard and grab Gen 4 4.8 and 5.3. Swap 5.3 crank/rods into 4.8 block. ???. Profit. End up with DOD delete, 243 heads, and flat top pistons for like $300 or less total.
Yep, I thought the same thing. Cheaper to get a 4.8 then swap in a used 5.3 crank and cam, instead of the $500+ DoD kit into a 5.3. I'll defiantly be on the lookout for more of the IV 4.8's.
I got an L33 core for free from work. Have not cracked it open yet. It was running when pulled from a 06 silverado. I do know it had run low on oil in the past. Replaced it with an LM7. Hopefully, it's not too far gone. I pulled the valve covers, vally cover, and timing cover. It's way cleaner on the inside than the LM7 im using in my swap. Plan on going through it for future use. Your videos have been very helpful in my swap. LM7 into a 94 S10. Very similar to what you did. Have the motor and trans in the vehicle. Factory engine harness is installed. Currently working on vehicle side wiring. Not sure if i should tackle exhaust or fuel next. Have a new pump and tank to install as well as run new fuel lines.
Worst case the L33 just needs crank and/or rods replaced if a bearing spun or other low oil damage. Aluminum blocks are usually worth fixing. Good score for sure.

Interesting! I picked up another LC9 5.3L this weekend. I am trying to figure out how to use the factory harness,ECU to run on a stand.

Over the weekend I scored a 2011 LC9 with the 243 heads as well.
