Mate you did it all wrong, in the wrong order. First, I would have painted the board, then I would have put the sanding coat on. Sand it down, then layer it with fiberglass. And I mean LAYER IT. 3 layers of 6oz on the whole thing. Then I would have put more fiberglass on where your feet go for better grip. Sand the fin down until its a stump. Then cut off the dinged up part of the nose. I've been surf repairing for 3 months now and I am happy to share my opinions with so called 'professionals' on the internet. Your welcome

Don’t use a big blob of epoxy and Q-cell on a styro core, if it gets to hot it will melt the foam, you won’t see the melted hole as it will be under the filler, use expanding foam, it will be just as strong as the styro.

When automotive paint guys have to colour match on a car, they get the colour as close as humanly possible, then they blend (fade) that colour into the surrounding paintwork over a large area. They do it because it's impossible to get a perfect match, even when they buy the same colour from the manufacturer. And that's because paint fades in the elements over time. Look into paint matching on cars. There's plenty of video on YT covering it. I've found the automotive paint industry very useful when doing colour/paint work on my surfboards.

This might be a tip.. my brother in law repaired a broken stone deleo thingy he had. He did it some Japanese philosophically adroit way or some shit. But the jist of the process and technique was to embrace the repair. Highlight it. I thought perhaps you could incorporate the inserts into a graphic design maybe? Make it a highlight and an obvious celebration of the repurposing of the board as opposed to trying to make the plugs invisible. Just a thought

I don't know why more guys don't use carbon fiber rods for snap boards. its super strong and very light.

may I ask why you used joint compound rather than pour foam? seems the joint compound would be heavier and also harder to sand? would you still have used it if raising a compressed deck by half an inch?

Hello brother! Greetings from Costa Rica (but Im argentinian 😂) here is a sugestión: in argentina is very comun go to the paint shop with a sample of the paínt (in this case a piece of the broke coat) and in this way they recreate the same colorway, i hope that can help you!

I found one at my workplace, so I had the idea to restore one-no idea how I'll restored the bumps and chipped fiberglass though. I'm first trying to remove some residue that was left on the board, I don't know what it was.

Can you still buy Reichhold glossing resin in Ca? Has the EPA stopped that one as well? So glad I left So. Cal at the end of the 80’s for a more tolerant board building Country.
