Which Clans fought at the Battle of Clontarf?
The battle of Clontarf in 1014 has been immortalised as Brian's victory over the Vikings, although this wasn't the case the effect of the battle would be felt for centuries, So who fought at the Battle although many surnames didn't appear till after the battle using the names and locations of kings who fought at the battle we can have an educated guess which families ancestors and kin groups took part.

Oreilly
my mothers side are all obriens i wonder how they got that name
My surname is Nolan too. We come from Tipperary originally.
Mackinnon pride 🫡
I've always wondered about the origin of my last name brady
*MacKays* of Sutherland, descendants of *Moray* , were part of the Bruce revolution.
My surname is Byrne
As much as many may wish to romance about Irish heritage, the English population is significantly higher… we’re all a mix anyway!
My mother, and maternal ancestors, were named Diggin, from Cromane, in Co Kerry. My DNA is a mixture of Viking and Irish. I even have Dupuytren's contracture, the Viking genetic disease. Lucky me.
The Vikings conquered England. The Normans were second or third generation Vikings. They destroyed the Saxons before going into Wales and then later conquered Ireland. It wasn’t the English it was the Normans.
OH FFS FO With the Irish cobblers...........
Could you direct me to the history of the okenny clan . And I really enjoyed watching your video thankyou ❤
I’m English and my DNa test says Im more Irish
A lot of English have Irish ancestry and have Celtic Briton ancestry . The Anglo Saxons did not wipe them out they mixed with the celts. So English are more celt than Saxon
MAC IS Scottish Mc is Irish

Hello my name is Michael Russell just asking no or yes is the name Michael Russell of Fenian/Herbernian origin please respond thank you.
Mac is Scottish, Mc is Irish...
sound quality is awful
I have my fathers surname, which is English, but he is half Irish on his mothers side, she was born in Manchester to Irish born parents, she she was English born but completely of Irish decent and she was an O’connor. On my mum’s side I’m a Halpin (which was listed in this video, so, cool 😊, but I did already know of the connection, I did one of those DNA tests and I’m 15% Nordic according to that) and also on my maternal grandmother’s side they were from an Irish branch of the Donald family, which I know was first from Scotland, but close to Ireland so a lot of them migrated there very soon after the name was established, and we know both from tracing the family tree as well as stories my nana remembers from her grandmother that the family had been in Ireland for hundreds of years.
I'm so tired of all this misinformation.
This was truly excellent l- keep up the good work. In Northern Ireland a first name tells so much. Kevin, Seán, Liam, Seamus= Catholic Republican. Ian, Alister, Samuel, William, Graham, Nigel= Protestant Unionist. Roll on the happy day when no one looks twice at a Catholic Nigel or Protestant Liam. By the way, there are today Bodkins in deepest Connemara. And they're Catholic.
So fascinating! Thank you great video !
My dna is 97% irish,& 3% viking
My dna is 97% irish,& 3% viking
Halley family from Waterford. ( o'hailche) in the Irish.

My family said we were Irish McIntyre's originally who later moved to the Isle of Skye and then the Scottish Highlands
Either though I'm English my surna.e Scottish. I do have Irish ancestry
Mckay, mackay, same clan . Great vid appreciate your effort here brother.
Inaccurate to call some of these British Surnames, they are Norman French names, Hiberniores Ipsis Hibernis. Never knew the English called us old English Irish dogs, I love it :-)
My Grandfather name is McAdoo !! Looking for other McAdoos!! Would like to know what area this name came from? Thanks for sharing!! ❤
My surname apparently originates in Co Cork.
Heraldry shields are British symbols, not Irish ones. Come on, be smarter.
Heraldry is not British. I've a full video that explains the history if you wish to learn more, sources, as with all videos are in the description. czcams.com/video/LjFpeEfE3hE/video.htmlsi=hRX3y-S3765nXMvx
I’m from Manchester, my late mothers maiden name was Orange, she had a half brother called William, with a very large family in Tipperary, all Irish Catholics, some people don’t believe me, no way anyone can be called ‘Billy Orange ‘ in the south of Ireland. 😂😂
Gallagher
Clan Taggart
I hope my surname isn’t Irish I’m 99% sure it’s Norman Scottish anyway.
That would be a very Ecumenical question.
Mostly, every "Mc" surname is Irish, but some are also "Mac" to aswell as "O"
By English do you mean Norman Franc...Strongbow was French spoke French and his teal name was Richard Declare. He borrowed the money to invade Ireland from a French Jew called Josca..
I recently did a DNA test and found I'm about a quarter Irish (which I've always had a feeling I might be so it was nice to discover it ) but it seems to be on my Dad's side who was adopted and never bothered tracing his real parents and family. I'm more interested to see if there might be Irish on my Mums side, Downes. Gone back about 4 or 5 generations and there isn't yet :/
My surname is hughes they came from cork ireland. Whenever I have looked this up apparently it is was given to norsemen who are of viking/Scandinavian origin. The name is derived from the Old Norse name Húgsviðr, which was a given name used by the Norsemen who settled in Ireland. The name Hughes was first found in County Cork, where the Hughes family held a seat from ancient times. Weird as my family are from cork and Waterford. They was both also viking cities when I done a dna test I was 24.9% Scandinavian which is very high. My wife's family are from kildare in athy and loads of hughes there also its a very popular irish surname the name is even painted on the wall as the boats on the river was named hughes. Its a celtic surname found in Wales and Scotland also.
My last name is Ireland, so perhaps maybe definitely. ❤
The oldest name in Ireland is 0' Breasail whose mother was Eiru
