    Since Campbell holdings are mostly in Argyle, and at 01:26, the ancestral lands are said to be in Argyle, wouldn't that point to a Gaelic origin in Dál Riata, instead of a Brythonic origin in Strathclyde?

    • @Clans_Dynasties
      @Clans_Dynasties  Před rokem +2

      I used to think so too, I thought the Brythonic claim was just part of the 19th/early 20th Briton/British Romanticism and propaganda but it this one seems correct according to recent research and DNA studies so its more likely that the early Brythonic Campbell ancestors just adopted the Gaelic culture of possibly thier overlords for a time which to be fair was very common at multiple time periods.

    Please do one on the MacIntyre's of Glen Noe. They were driven out of Scotland by the Campbell clan during the Highland Clearances. There's a very good reason the Campbell clan is considered by most of the remaining Scottish clans as a "stain" on Scotland's history.

    • @TheDickPuller
      @TheDickPuller Před 2 lety +1

      The ‘Highland Clearances’ is really a bit of a misnomer in respect of the depopulation of the Scottish Highlands, many, myself included, take the view that most Highlanders were ‘economic migrants’.
      The Land of the Highlands is very poor & it was difficult to sustain a family. The Crofts were very small & the Taxes & Rents very big. Let’s not forget, many families were in servitude to there Clan Chiefs or Land Owners.
      For the most part, these migrants were educated, thanks to Parish Schools that were a big part of every Hamlet, Village & Town. These Schools were established & paid for by the British Government & the Presbyterian Churches. So you basically had educated individuals & ample opportunities in the New World.
      If you know the area, you’ll understand the close proximity to Loch Awe & Campbell territory.
      There’s never a justification for Landowners clearing their land, but the Legal implementation of removing people was brutal at times. However, history has proven that these migrants made the New World & indeed played a big part in the formation of the countries they settled in.
      Though like many, the MacIntyre Clan was displaced, many, many MacIntyre families still live & prosper in Argyll & Scotland.
      Please be objective in your views of these times & Clans. The Campbells, while less than squeaky clean, do get blamed for a lot of tyranny. The Campbells’ as our host has pointed out, know how to change loyalty for financial gain!!!

      Also, every time I hear "The MacCorquodales were one of the most ancient clans named for Thorketill who stealthily retrieved the head of King McAlpine from the Pictish." I never see MacCorquodales names pop up where lore says they should be and almost always the Campbell name is there instead until the civil wars of 1640's when McCorkle starts sprouting out of Campbell and boating across the pond to The New World in droves. I think it would make a great video if you can find out what happened there.

    Brilliant channels man! Can you tell me please what's the story there with McIvor-Campbell?

    • @Clans_Dynasties
      @Clans_Dynasties  Před 2 lety

      Thank you, i will try it's a long story, MacIvor is a patronymic name coming from the Gaelic 'Iomhar' with multiple unrelated branches the main lines lands in argyll were under the Campbell overlorship, The Campbells record that the line decended from the same line as the Campbells and MacTavishs which means if this theory is correct they most likely decended from the MacArthurs, often recorded as an illegitimate line of the family this statement is could be a latter ammendment as many parts of Scotland didnt follow traditional marriage and inheritance rights till the arrival of Norman/Flemish/Breton knights in the 12the century who brought a stricter version of feudalism than traditionally followed in Scotland this especially true in the Highland areas, Even if the origin theory is incorrect it was not uncommon for Scottish tennants to take the surname of thier overlord or if a Campbell took control of MacIvor lands or married an MacIvor heiress to adopt the name or double-barrell his name. As i said its a long one that i willl eventually do a video on, any questions i will try to answer it.

      @Clans_Dynasties  Před rokem +1

      I wouldn't say framed more like used as a political scape goat because they did have enough finger prints at the crime scene not to be completly blameless, Though to be honest noones familiy history at the top is totally clean and often the Campbells were called out by people doing similar things.

    Used the Bruce to gain power, then turned against the Scots in favour of English occupation.
    Severely weakened Scotland with their inability to fight when needed. Took the english kings silver

      Its amazing you have access to the information on your family, although its a terrible thought that any of our ancestors owned slaves. The likelihood is that we are all decended from slave owners just some more recent than others, Slavery has been around probably as long as warfare. With every culture on earth experiencing both sides of it.

    I don't believe in punishing someone for the sins of the father, so any Campbell living or of recent history gets a clean slate as far as I am concerned. But any Campbell tries to brag about their clan around me is in great danger of getting a foot up the ass. Turn up your sound, brother. I can hardly hear your audio.

    • @Clans_Dynasties
      @Clans_Dynasties  Před 3 lety +1

      Well id ask which Campbell they are, The MacArthur Campbells would probably hate to be associated with GlenCoe considering they to had it rough also, But i agree in clean slates, as for the sound i did upload it twice the first two sounded to loud and you say this ones to quiet, i may have to spend a day or two figuring the editing of sound, thanks for pointing it out.

    • @Clans_Dynasties
      @Clans_Dynasties  Před 3 lety +1

      I would say its not about forgetting but its about moving on, unless there is someone alive who commited the crimes , but i wont hold a family or country to account for something they themselves had no part in. But i do respect some families still hold the scars of past traumas and i wont be the one to tell them how they should deal with that either.
