- It is the last month of the year, which means it’s time for our final Clan of the Month episode of 2022, and for this very special episode we are talking about a Clan very close to the Scotlandshop team, Clan MacGregor. This is thought to be one of Scotland's oldest Clans, meaning there are a lot of stories to share, and plenty of enemies created. One of their most well known feuds was with the Colquhoun Clan, with it all beginning back in the 1300’s when the MacGregor lands were taken from them, meaning they became tenants of the Campbells and Colquhouns. Relations were stable for many years until 1592 when a member of the MacGregor Clan fired an arrow that ‘accidentally’ killed a member of Clan Colquhoun. This resulted in a full blown battle, but although this may sound like a disastrous story it is one that ends happily ever after with a Highland Reel. You will need to watch the episode to discover the full story! Of course we also delve into the Clan’s terrific tartans and famous faces.

Well done ladies. You look braw in the MacGregor red and green modern tartan scarves. Never heard of the MacGregor Royal tartan before. It's actually called the Cardney MacGregor designed around 1930 by the then Chiefs brother who wanted his own family tartan. And indeed, it is a popular and beautiful tartan.

Thank you for this. I am not a MacGregor; however, my great grandmother was a Gregory descended from Clan Gregor. Our ancestor apparently came out in second place in a battle with the English. He and other Scottish prisoners were sold to Virginia in the 1600s.
We are still here in 2023. "MacGregor forever".

I have ancestor who on the US documentation is listed as Mack Gregor. He was born in 1747 and married a Scottish woman which gave the clue that he was a MacGregor. He is my 4th great-grandfather. On April 3, 1603, it was decreed by the King that all variations of the McGregor surname should be “altogidder abolished.” Due to “barbarous and horrible” deeds the clan was to be “exterminated and ruttid out.” Anyone bearing the name from thence forward would suffer the pain of death.

Absolutely you can! You may find you have links to many Scottish clans going back this far.
Umm, enjoyed for a while. But then you skipped the Clan Campbell's complicity completely. The clan responsible. Why...?
Research it. It's very interesting and sad. I'm a clan member of both the MacGregors and the Campbells.
