rp daily: a conversation that will blow your mind with Daniel Schmachtenberger
RP Daily is part of the neighborhood project tnp.us/gather/my-neighborhood/. We believe in the power of conversation to unify individuals across the globe as we continue on the journey of learning together. Our team has created a digital community where you can let down your guard, open your heart, and have the kind of honest conversations and connections that just may change your life.
What does an anti-fragile civilization look like? Daniel Schmachtenberger thinks deeply and broadly about building resilience in a world faced with inter-related challenges across technology, media education, politics, economics, and culture. Daniels' work with the Consilience Project is a vision for a more perfect union that we want to get behind.
About Daniel Schmachtenberger: civilizationemerging.com/about/
Daniel Schmachtenberger’s central interest is long term civilization design: developing better collective capacities for sense-making and meaning-making, to inform higher quality choice-making…towards a world commensurate with our higher values and potentials.
He has an eclectic educational background, mostly from outside of institutional settings, in the natural sciences, social sciences, and philosophy…with an emphasis in the epistemics needed to better approach ‘wicked’ problems, and the ethical considerations to inform the design criteria for adequate solutions.
Daniel has participated in projects to survey the landscape of existential and catastrophic risks, advance forecasting and mitigation strategies, and develop capacities for the kinds of multi-agent coordination needed to implement viable solutions. Associated work has been done to synthesize and advance civilizational collapse and institutional decay models, insofar as they are useful in both scenario modeling and designing more resilient systems.

    After he said David and Jonathan are gay icons I checked out. That old slander? He came loaded with an agenda. And most Christians do NOT point to Leviticus to show homosexuality is condemned by God but to Romans 1. Okay, he's an Old Testament scholar, I get it, but if he's going to bash on Christians, he should at least cross the great divide into the New Testament and inform himself on the texts Christians use.

    I don't think i could sit silent if i were in the audience. I very much like Baden's lectures when he "stays in his lane." Admittedly, I only watched a few minutes of this before i had to bail. But for him, a professed Jew, to criticize Huckabee, a devout Christian, about Huckabee's interpretation of the teachings of Christ, is more than i could stomach. And i don't necessarily agree with Huckabee. Then Baden essentially says we can't pick and choose from the bible; instead we have to take the overall principles or moral teachings of the bible. Personally, I think the bible, on balance, should be thrown in the trashcan. Nevertheless, what believers pick and choose is their's to pick and choose. Who is Baden to say differently? Baden is a scholar of the bible. Does that mean he is also a theologian? I thought he wasn't.

    What the Biblically illiterate will miss is the false or misleading claims of Joel Baden, despite all of his education at "Ivy League" schools. He said, starting at point 2:45, that "The Bible is a book that treats women as property, that advocates polygamy, that supports slavery..." Yet the Biblically informed know that those are lies or misrepresentations. We have women like Esther and Ruth with their own books showing them as people of heroism and faith. How is that treating them as "property"? The Bible RECORDS polygamy, but to say it "advocates" it is a stretch to say the least. Joel apparently doesn't know the difference between what is descriptive and what is prescriptive. In the beginning in Genesis it says this about marriage: [Gen 2:24 NKJV] 24 "Therefore a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and they shall become one flesh." This is clearly not "polygamy" being advocated, right from the gate. And then there's slavery. We have an entire book called "EXODUS," which is all about a people being set free FROM slavery. We have other passages such as Deuteronomy 23:15,16 that clearly speak of not returning runaway slaves to masters and giving them freedom to live among the Israelites. Yet Mr. Baden falsely claims the Bible "supports" slavery. No, it does not. Of course the issue is somewhat complicated regarding slavery and what the Bible says, but to simply say it "supports" slavery without qualifying the statement is a form of deception at worst, or ignorance at best. This is why I advocate people doing their own homework and not blindly accepting what these "educated" people say because oftentimes they are either lying or being deceptive or misleading in their claims.

    through the points did you pay mind to the focus or structure of everything and relative to each other thing to provide the emergent reality that is reality or rather did you just decide that you were gonna go against what you know and create something converse to what your heart perceives. you're a deceiver but one is wittingly so as one is deceived so you liars can congregate and it will realize nil. one could give ten different scenarios to explain away problematic structure or one could pursue the Truth or one could initially reject it like you do. live your life with no hope and a seared conscience serving the devil and waiting to die and then even having the ambition to seek it for another and all while opposing Jesus that is the Embodiment of love. only an unclean animal can accept the role of opposing the God of the little girl but none are forcing you but you have long since lost your spine to appeasing those that are fundamentally exactly the same as you. we will run out of days though. though you are still here and that means you can turn.

So there are 'natural' contradictions and oddities. It combines history with fairy tails and personal opinions and experience. Is there also a word of god? Who knows?

    So many words, spoken with so little meaning. You read the Old Testament in English and proclaim "contradictions" all the while joking about them. I think you forget that the Old Testament was not written in English but is rather a translation from Hebrew. But not once do you mention this fact or look at what the Hebrew says. because you are not truly interested in what the text says but rather proving a point. If you did you would quickly realize that much of this confusion is simply the very clunky way English puts things. If you take plants as one example and dig a bit deeper you will find the plants being talked about in Gen 1 and 2 are different types of plants. In Gen 1 it talks about grass (deshe’), seed-bearing plants (‘eseb mazria zera), and the fruit trees (ets pariy). Plants that grow in the wild, that care for themselves. In Gen 2 which is looking at just the garden of Eden, it says God created cultivated plants and grains. Which is why it mentions there was no man to cultivate or care for them, because the plants requiring cultivation were created on day 6 and only inside the garden. There is no confusion or contradiction. The text isn't saying "Plants were created on day 3" and "No, plants were created on day 6" It is saying one type of plant was created on day 3 and another type were created on day 6. Far from contradicting, chapter 2 is giving us more information. Two things can be true at the same time. If someone at your talk says "You wore a jacket" and someone else says "You wore a shirt". Both statements are true but different. When we combine the two statements we get a fuller picture that you wore both a shirt and a jacket. This is what chapter 2 is doing, adding further information to give us a fuller picture.

      You missed his whole point. You apparently also don’t know who he is. He’s a professor at Yale who has read all the versions of the Bible even the Hebrew 11th century text. What he’s challenging us to do is to realize that each version of the Bible is slightly different and that there are inherently flaws to it because it is a translation. And even the translation that all bibles are from is considered an interpretation from thousands of years before it. He doesn’t discount any version. Each version is a truth to someone and is valid. The real problem today is that certain people twist the words of the Bible saying it is the only truth and it isn’t. The underlying message is to have compassion and understanding.

    • @noworries137
      @noworries137 Před 3 měsíci

      @@caseyshammons I don't care who someone is or what letters they have by their names; anyone can be wrong. I don't assume someone is right just because they hold the title of professor nor do i assume they will be wrong because they are a simple man. I see if what they are saying aligns with the word of God. The Bible holds those who would be teachers or overseers to a higher standard. Of course each Bible is slightly different, they are as I said a translation into English. which is why I also said the Hebrew and Greek should be looked at. Some translations tried to be truer to the original text, some tried to be clearer to modern speakers, and some have used words in certain passages that change or muddy the real meaning.
