Its a shame that 98% of basketball fans won't ever watch this video or understand the true value a "Shane Battier" brings to any team, especially one with championship aspirations. Thank you for some great years in miami!
This man's my hero. He's the epitome of a real, classic underdog. He doesn't get as much credit as he truly deserves. But he had one heck of an NBA career, despite mostly being away from the limelight. Who's your daddy? Battier!!!
Wow, one of the most educated and articulate basketball players I've seen. You don't get a lot of Shane Battiers in the league today. A smart guy on and off the court.
I've never seen crowd faces listening to a pro athlete with such focus and emotions...i could feel the connection electricity in that room!!! Amazing! "Always ask yourself, what can i do to contribute" is the most important sentence of all imo. Ty for sharing! 🏀👍✌
You know for a few years in my life when my kids were smaller I helped coach little league football in our County. This is what I figured out about that game I played ball growing up and all that I figured out that if I'd spent most of my time working with my offensive and defensive lines and they blocked well and tackled well. Then it did not matter what the quality of my running backs or quarterbacks were. My boys on the line my bigger boys doing a really good fantastic job and enjoyed it they would make the running backs look like stars and we were a very difficult team to beat no matter who we played we were always either winning or in overtime. The coaches that was spent most of their time with their backs or quarterbacks running backs and those were the very ones that we usually took completely apart
as a Chinese guy who doesn't play basketball at all, I admire this guy a lot. I'm gonna use what he said here to put into use in my life, very inspiring and edifying.
A team full of Shane Battiers would win the finals year after year. He is a true professional and is someone I admire. Shane, if you are reading this, and you need legal counsel, please do not hesitate to contact me. The NBA needs professionals like yourself. You are my favorite player and clearly a true WINNER.
Shane Battier is a role model. I’ve been saying this since he arrived at Duke and is still my favorite all time blue devil. Have always known he was a true motivator. There’s a lot of great material to live by here. Well said, Shane.
People can say whatever they want to about the way you talk son I appreciate it I think you do a good job you tell the truth the truth is it's not the big thing that happens hit all the little tiny things that get you in the position to do the big thing. You can't be great at the big moment if you're not working hard and all of the little moments
I was a ball boy at Duke when Shane was there. After two free throws he would have a puddle of sweat 8 inches across. He would shoot around with us some and was always smiling and kind. One of my favorite players to watch at Duke. Got to hangout with his sister Ashley at Elon some a few years after that and she's dope too!
Smart hardworker great defender being a tweener by physical size between a 3 and a 4 he maximized his native abilities . Journeyman in it's best sense comes to mind . He saw team when others saw only self. A lesser rodman.
Compared to someone who's incredibly skilled, I find that the coolest guy is the one who sucks but still manages to keep up with the highly skilled playest. What an awesome player
I wish Battier did basketball commentary or something, he's pretty damn fun to listen to.
He is pretty intelligent cat, can listen to him for hours!

Very down to earth, honest, and wise. Congrats Shane.

Inspiring speech. Great NBA career. Yet, I believe Shane's best is yet to come.
A true pleasure watching you play basketball but I always knew you'd be very successful off the court once you retired. Brilliant humanitarian
Wow Shane Battier is an incredible public speaker.

He really is an incredible speaker! I would love to see him do NBA commentary or something else that keeps him in the public eye!

One of the greatest defenders to ever play the game! Glad he wore the right shade of blue
A politician in the making. He has all of the ingredients. I'm so proud of him.
Cool purple pants been weird you get those at. No joke my wife would love to see me wearing those
One of the smartest people, not just basketball players, on the planet!
"What am I doing to make my team this much better?"
Underated
So eloquent
He is one of the greatest defensive player

Small Forward is the equivalent of intangibles. This is how we are in life
he s one of the most clever player to hit the nba court, he should be a coach or GM , pretty sure he ll be successful especially on GM role
Compared to someone who's incredibly skilled, I find that the coolest guy is the one who sucks but still manages to keep up with the highly skilled playest.
What an awesome player
You are oolest 🌞🌊
he has been this guy for decades. i was suprised he even went to the nba. i thought he would leave duke and go to wallstreet the valley.
He was a really good all around basketball player. But he was a really good flopper too
it's just basketball IQ bro, flopping makes you look stupid but helps your team get calls xd
Son, it’s simple...you play defence, man like no other . You col
Robert horry big shot rob has low stats but like Shane he contributed to camaraderie and the art of the intangible in making championship.
:-)
