80 years old and homeless veteran in Los Angeles needs help
Help Wendell get an RV to go back home gofund.me/e55367c9
Wendell is an 80-year-old retired veteran who finds himself facing the harsh realities of homelessness in Los Angeles. After a life marked by service and sacrifice, including the heartbreaking loss of one son in the Afghanistan war and another in a tragic car accident, Wendell's challenges escalated when his beloved wife was diagnosed with cancer. Despite spending every penny on her treatment, she passed away, leaving Wendell without his life partner and financially devastated. Today, Wendell lives in a broken-down RV, a stark reminder of the cascading tragedies that led him to this point.
The crisis of elderly homelessness is escalating, with countless older adults like Wendell finding themselves without a safe place to call home. The vulnerability of this population is profound, as they face unique health and mobility challenges, exacerbated by the lack of stable housing. In urban areas like Los Angeles, where the cost of living is high and social services are stretched thin, the plight of elderly homeless individuals is particularly acute.
A dedicated street medicine team brought Wendell's situation to our attention, emphasizing his reluctance to ask for financial help. Wendell's humble wish is for a functioning RV, allowing him the dignity of mobility and the ability to relocate to a place he can once again call home. Understanding the improbability of such a donation, we convinced Wendell to agree to a GoFundMe campaign. Rest assured, this campaign is transparent-every cent raised goes directly to Wendell’s bank account to fund his new RV.
We have made sure that there are people involved to help Wendell drive to the location that he wants to go and that he will be taken care of.

About Invisible People
There is a direct correlation between what the general public perceives about homelessness and how it affects policy change. Most people blame homelessness on the person experiencing it instead of the increasing shortage of affordable housing, lack of employment, childhood trauma, lack of a living wage, or the countless reasons that put a person at risk. This lack of understanding creates a dangerous cycle of misperception that leads to the inability to effectively address the root causes of homelessness.
We imagine a world where everyone has a place to call home. Each day, we work to fight homelessness by giving it a face while educating individuals about the systemic issues that contribute to its existence. Through storytelling, education, news, and activism, we are changing the narrative on homelessness.
This isn’t just talk. Our groundbreaking educational content reaches millions of people every month. Our real and unfiltered stories of homelessness shatter stereotypes, demand attention and deliver a call-to-action that is being answered by governments, major brands, nonprofit organizations, and everyday citizens just like you.
However, there is more work to be done on the road ahead. Homelessness is undoubtedly one of our biggest societal issues today and will only continue to grow if we don’t take action now.
Invisible People is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit dedicated to educating the public about homelessness through innovative storytelling, news, and advocacy. Since our launch in 2008, Invisible People has become a pioneer and trusted resource for inspiring action and raising awareness in support of advocacy, policy change and thoughtful dialogue around poverty in North America and the United Kingdom.

Religion is manipulation and control, religion causes more misery than good. As for America it's had it, proves today's younger generation running the system have no idea, society will collapse fully never any signs of getting better. Donald Trump was born rich, he will never know what being poor is. Rich will always be there for exploiting the poor is what they do best. America is looking more like a communist country. Not worth having troops fighting for a country that's broken.

There are 2 sides to every story. When you're dealing with someone with mental illness or a drug addict, they often won't tell you the whole truth. Also, it's ironic that people get so angry when the city is forcing a homeless encampment to move, but if that homeless encampment was across the street from your house, you would most likely have a problem with it. Crime does increase where homeless encampments are. My husband is a Mexican immigrant and my mom is a Guatemalan immigrant that raised us by herself cleaning houses to support us. Nothing has been handed to us. We've worked over 20 years to buy a piece of property in a nice, safe neighborhoods so we can build a house. I would be devastated if I saw a homeless encampment starting to grow across the street. We worked 20 years for what we have and we deserve to feel safe in the community we live in. Homeless people are not the enemy and unfortunately affordable housing is only part of the solution. We need more resources for people with mental illness and drug addiction. However, we cannot force anyone to take advantage of these programs even if they're the best possible program you could offer. This is a complicated issue is some ways. Another big issue is the strict environmental laws in states like California make it impossible to build affordable housing for the homeless. We could have so many amazing communities with beautiful tiny houses for the homeless that's clean and they can have a home and their dignity, but the environmental laws block a lot of these permit requests and it's often for the stupidest reasons. It is a frustrating issue because it shouldn't be that difficult or impossible to build communities with affordable housing for the homeless where they can feel safe and have some hope. I do have compassion for the homeless regardless of how they got there and it's a shame that politics has made it impossible to fix the situation and if you think it's only the conservatives making it difficult to solve this issue, you are sorely mistaken. Liberal and conservative politicians are at fault. Again, the extreme liberal environmental laws is one of the main reasons it's impossible to build affordable housing. The blame falls on both parties.

Again last night while minding my own business inside my car, a cop came and began questioning me because "someone called and reported me as suspicious". Ended with 3 cop cars around me because I have no insurance and no plates. Hence why I stay parked in public but in parking lots on private property like a gym parking lot. Why would someone do this to me? I could have lost my car, my only shelter, and my cat! Do these callers not realize that sending a guy with a gun to harass me could result in making my life far worse and all because they are "concerned"? This is clearly just a polite form of swatting the homeless. And it is the result of being singled out because while all these cops were harassing me, a motorhome full of homeless and a travel trailer with a homeless couple were right in front of us ON THE PUBLIC street in Fort Collins Colorado famous for unhinged police and A CAMPING BAN! And announced yesterday, Fort Collins is now one of a couple police departments in the nation that has begun using AI. We already have cameras everywhere. Somehow being in a car is now just an open invitation to be harassed if someone has a "bad vibe". I've thought about this for years. I'm gay. We have a gay pride flag to identify. As a member of the homeless masses, I think we need our own symbol that identifies us as a homeless member of the community. A NEIGHBOR and not an enemy. The best idea I've come up with is a white flag with a purple tent, car, or RV. Cops say that this won't help because some homeless people are criminals. True. But we have to start someplace to get our fellow Americans to stop putting us into the "other" category like we don't belong around them simply because we cannot afford rent. I'm not sure what symbol would identify folks as allies to us, the homeless, but I might suggest a purple house for home owners that are allies, a purple church for congregation members that support the homeless community, and a purple "+" for allies that volunteer at shelters, food banks, etc. we need this to start making the homeless haters realize that they are a minority and that it is them that are the problem.... The housing crisis has reached the point that I no longer will settle for renting a bedroom.... Now I will settle for any piece of land where I can exist without fear of being harassed by cops. I am literally ready to build a mud hut in the woods if it wouldn't land me in jail for breaking imaginary rules.

They were about to start talking about Fort Knox and more particularly the gold standard and right after that, you started treating them like a child. That's extremely patronizing. Why don't you hear them out? You even snicker at him. I know why - you only want to spend the minimum amount of time with the people that you absolutely have to, and then you give them socks to make yourself feel better and get your 10 minutes or whatever CZcams's guidelines are for making a video monetizable, then end it.
