- Kevin, a devoted single father, is diligently working to provide for his four children, all while navigating the challenging circumstances of their life in a weekly-rate hotel. Initially, the family found temporary respite in a program for homeless families, which covered their stay in a different hotel. However, as the program's six-month duration drew to a close, Kevin and his children faced an uncertain future, teetering on the brink of homelessness. In their dire situation, Kevin reached out to Paul Kruse, whose assistance proved indispensable in securing them another hotel room, preventing them from ending up on the unforgiving streets.
Imagine the daunting task of raising four children as a single parent within the confines of a single, cramped hotel room. Sadly, this is the harsh reality experienced by countless homeless families. Weekly-rate hotels, though a meager refuge, often serve as the last line of defense for individuals and families trapped within the relentless cycle of poverty. These individuals grapple with the formidable financial hurdles that stand between them and a stable home, such as the daunting upfront costs of first and last month's rent and security deposits.
While weekly-rate hotels provide a makeshift roof over their heads, they fall woefully short of offering the ideal living conditions, especially for children. These establishments frequently lack the essential amenities, safety features, and stability needed for a healthy upbringing. Although it represents a step up from the grim alternatives of sleeping on the streets or in a vehicle, this reliance on such accommodations perpetuates the grim cycle of homelessness. It underscores the pressing need for comprehensive and affordable housing solutions that can empower families and individuals to break free from this arduous predicament, fostering a brighter and more stable future for them all.

This isn’t just talk. Our groundbreaking educational content reaches millions of people every month. Our real and unfiltered stories of homelessness shatter stereotypes, demand attention and deliver a call-to-action that is being answered by governments, major brands, nonprofit organizations, and everyday citizens just like you.
However, there is more work to be done on the road ahead. Homelessness is undoubtedly one of our biggest societal issues today and will only continue to grow if we don’t take action now.

@@kandy777 I believe he said his wife walked out on the family and had some mental issues. If that was the case, he lost a partner to care for the children and possibly she had income that is now lost so he couldn't manage to pay rent on his own, cover day care costs and work a job. It quickly becomes a downward spiral. Older kids are probably out of school for holiday break so now what does he do? Now he is in crisis mode to just keep a roof over their heads and food in their tummies.
Its really pathetic of our country to give millions in aid to another country but cant even take care of our own! Embarrassing!

My heart breaks for kids and teens who don't get to be just that.
Focus on school, keep their rooms clean and clean up after themselves, enjoy spare time because you're only a youth until the night before 18th birthday. Then you got forever to be an adult with adult responsibilities and less free time.

People lose their jobs and can't find one that pay as well as the previous ones due to a lot of factors. A 53 yr old man can lose his great job, maybe due to downsizing, business may not be pulling in enough money. At least he didn't abandon his kids to the foster care system. And it case y'all didn't notice, rents and utilities can use up more than half of your income. Especially in NYC and Los Angeles. A studio apartment in my NH can go for at least $2,000 a month .

There are no men shelters period. Domestic violence shelters, pregnancy shelters, homeless shelters, drug treatment facilities, all exclusively for women, there are ZERO men shelters. If you are a man, and struggling, you best figure it tf out cause nobody is there to help you. It is entirely on you, and only you.

And girls have such a hard time homeless too: everything that comes wirh the woman experience (personal hygiene and safety from predators). Dad is doing the best he can. Praying they get a break soon.

I grew up with a single dad. His 7th kid. I still remember the shelter. He did his best. Hang in there brother.

As someone who was forced into a parent position of younger siblings now as an adult I see how that completely robbed me of a childhood and made me never want to have my own kids. I feel for your dad but making you the de facto mother to your siblings isn’t right either. He needs to get some help from someplace even if it means moving to a state with more aid.

His oldest daughter deserves a medal for bravery. She captured my heart with how responsible and patient she is. I would give this man my house because they need it. My kids are grown up. And I have 2 daughter's myself so I know how hard it can be. I wanna help these people. It would be the best Christmas ever. It's more important to give than it is to receive.

yes and also when he said "God takes care of him", it made me teary. I remember when I live in a home with sheltered and fed well yet my life was in chaos and I wanted to die yet God took me and cared for my soul, took me to heaven for a moment, I begged him to let me stay in his kingdom because earth was too cruel and he sends me straight back to my body and let me know I still have work to do for him.

I will NEVER ever again judge anyone homeless or down and out! My husband worked his butt off making really good money and in a blink of an eye he got stage 5 kidney failure and was in a bus accident and has TBI. We have been so lucky to barely pull through but let me tell you, we were steps from being this family. Everyone can be this family, Period.

I feel so sorry for this man. I grew up with very giving Christian parents, who always had a room open for someone in need. Those memories of what good my dad and mom( may she rest in peace) did by helping a homeless single mother of a very young son off the street an helping her to get back on her feet. My parents showed me that it can definitely be done, you can help a stranger an help them back up. We weren't rich growing up but we were happy.
People deserve better, people deserve a chance. I wish them well.

This is why as a oerson who has grown up poor and always struggled to keep a roof over my head I decided not to have kids, kids are too expensive and they are a hook the system uses to enslave people.
If social services can pay for a hotel why can't they pay for an apartment and child care while he gets back On his feet?

We have a lot of resources for single parents, as well as low-income two-parent families, but unfortunately, the number of people who need those resources in many cities outnumber the actual resources offered. It doesn't help when so many illegal immigrants are coming here tapping into assistance, which is further causing the shrinkage of help available.

As a Dad myself, I had the support of my wife and extended family when the kids were that little, I can’t imagine doing that solo. That level of anxiety of constantly being on I remember as being the most intense experience. I pray for this Dad, I sympathize with him and finally hope he gets some help to improve his situation

I’d screen the kids for neglect, not because the father is a bad person (in fact he seems very kind, loving, and patient), but because it’s just too much and too overwhelming to handle 4 kids on your own. Trust me, I know the signs because I’ve lived through it. This father is trying his best but he and the kids need more support, and the kids need to be screened for neglect & receive intervention. Stressed, emotionally dysregulated parents are vulnerable to snapping on their kids or shutting down and ignoring/neglecting their kids because it's just too much.
No judgement, just care and concern and love. When I was a kid living in distress and darkness, no one came for me; no one rescued me; no one saw what was going on at home behind closed doors. I want it to be different for these kids. Kids need sensitive, attuned parenting, but an overstretched parent cannot provide that. The father is definitely also dealing with his own traumas. My heart goes out to them all. This father seems like a kind man, and he clearly loves his children, but he's just going through too much to meet the kids' emotional needs (kids need a lot to develop healthily and not become broken adults).

As a low income property manager for over 10 years, my property tends to move people like this. These housing programs will pay for their security deposit, assist with their rent for 6 mths. and get them furniture too.
Unfortunately most of these cases they end up getting evicted for non payment of rent or breaking the lease policies.
This dad should’ve thought before making kids and/or should’ve stopped after kid #1. Tired of adults not taking accountability!
