I don't understand how so many people hold their pencils so weird. That just causes cramping in the gand and wrist

Maybe a silly question but I’m a new colored pencil artist. How do you know when your picture doesn’t take color any more?

Do you think mineral solvent will discolor the paper and pencil marks over a long time? Have you considered using water soluble Faber-Castell Albrecht Durer pencils for underlayers you want smoothly blended and then Polychromos on top for detail? Also, re the plastic pencil sharpener, perhaps after 4 years, it was time to get a new one rather than keep replacing blades. Using hairspray actually started many many years ago in school when the teachers didn’t know any better. I know this because I’m old enough to know it happened in my art classes. Hairspray can contain additives like fragrances and oils that will damage artwork and it yellows your paper.

wow, i cant believe you put those crappy zenacolor pencils on your list, but didn't mention any of the brutfuner/kalour/shuttle art/soukolour pencils, which are so much better than zenacolor. huge disappointment this video.

Size of paper

Have you tried using artist's gloves, or half finger summer gloves? I find them easier than using something under my hand

A question, other colour pencil artists I have watched place enormous emphasis on having really sharp pencils with very long leads. Do you not agree with this? You seem to use quite rounded pencils. Would you please talk about this?

Most classes I've seen teach lighter to dark values. It will be interesting to try your method instead.

I've just started my drawing life and I'm now on my 5th picture and I'm finding I like pastels..as I'm just starting tutorials are the way for me and horses are my thing.. this drawing of the palamino is beautiful and will definitely join your pateron page.. will you be doing more pastel drawings as I'd really like to try and get better with one thing than try turn my hand to different mediums.. and will you be doing more horses..I have Clydesdales and shire's if you could incorporate either of those breeds it would make my year.. thank you for sharing your talents you are amazing.. So basically the best way to simplify values is to go light to dark? I know that might sound silly but I have a hardtime finding mid tons in my drawings.

This paper may work beautifully for Polychromos but for a more waxy pencil like Prismacolor, you need a paper with more tooth. I found that when I use smooth paper, my Prismacolor layers are less saturated the next day.

The FaberCastell Classic are awesome pencils. I’ve had them at home for years and never tried them because they children’s pencils. You can layer with them to the moon and back. After I realised how wonderful they are, I searched for and found them in 100 set as water colour and regular colouring pencils on Amazon Japan or Aliexpress.

I like to draw animals but I like to draw realistic and I like to draw what I see and I just never really think my drawing is good because it don't look real to me because it don't have color and I see artists use color pencils and I just think it's look hard but I think with help from youtube and maybe some music I can at least try what I got to lose?

Fabriano Artistico Hot pressed, Arches Watercolor Hot Pressed, Hahnemuhle Dessin 150gm/2, are the 3 BEST drawing papers, for either Color pencils or graphite, charcoal etc. Best of the best non toned papers.
