6:55 I really like the "Bostitch Twist-N-Sharp" pencil sharpener for my colored pencils. There are several benefits to the sharpener: the BEST benefit IMO is that you literally CAN'T oversharpen the pencil. It has two sharpness settings: "extra sharp" and "dull." The sharpener is designed to stop sharpening the pencil once you've reached the one you selected.
The extra sharp setting gets the pencil - even colored pencils - needle sharp! I have never been able to do this with other sharpeners without a lot of breakage. And with other sharpeners, I rarely could get the tip actually needle sharp (which I like) on colored pencils.
I'm sharing this information after my own frustrations in trying to find the perfect sharpener that works as well for colored pencils as it does for graphite pencils. The sharpness tends to last longer using this sharpener compared to others as well, so I don't have to get replacement pencils nearly as often as I used to. Anyway, I hope this helps. 🤠
Could you say a little about sizes. Would you upscale 1.5 times from an A4 ref. Do you have a rule of thumb with sizes for colour pencils. Thankyou.
So what is your opinion of water color pencils
Hi Jessica - can you please tell me how you made these pencil extenders work with Polychromos? I got the set from Amazon and they're beautiful, affordable and practical but there's no way the silver part that separates from the body of the extender fits over the pencil. I tried all five in the set I received and they aren't even close to fitting. This is the third type of extender I've tried and still can't find one that works well. In the Derwent option the silver one was significantly too large and the black one was so tight it chewed away at the pencil and I could barely take it back off. The other was another no-name brand. I'm out of ideas. Thank you.
Would you recommend Arches for Polychromos (mainly landscape drawing) ?
Arches hot pressed watercolor paper has more of a micro texture than other smooth paper types, I have found it doesn't work the best for blurry types of backgrounds. Strathmore's Bristol vellum works best for backgrounds or landscapes where there is less details.
Could you please tell how to preserve the white spaces like whiskers, when using a solvent? I draw with burnishing method, so I usually indent the white spaces. But how is it possible to save those white lines if you blend with a solvent? 😊
I know you weren’t asking me, but after you indent your lines, take a really sharp white pencil and go over, or rather in the indentations. The white pencil kind of acts as a resistance to other colors going over it. Test it out on a scrap piece of paper.
@@melkmb Yayy thank you so much, it hasn't come to my mind, yet so simple! ❤
Pablo's are wax oriented and also professional, same as FC PC.
Great suggestion, thank you!
What about water color pencils which are they oil or wax based?
I'm not sure about that. Watercolor pencils are made to be water soluble, I'm sure they have a bit of both wax and oil in them, but the bonding agents are different than standard colored pencils.
@@jessicamatheneyfineart ok then witch is better oil and wax or water color
@@richardduvall6512 It really depends on what you want to do with your drawings. If you want a more painted look to your drawings, then go with watercolor, and if you want a more standard drawing look then go with regular colored pencils. If you want super fine detailed drawings I would recommend using oil based because they have harder cores.
@@jessicamatheneyfineart ok thank you for the advice have a merry Christmas
@@jessicamatheneyfineart I think their neither as water and oil don't mix. They're binders are usually different like watercolor paint using gum arabic.
I just bought Prismacolor 😒
