Thinking only shapes, and thinking only red yellow blue when mixing colors are probably two of the most groundbreaking ideas. I actually wonder how many times I personally heard it from others before I realized on my own (of course) how critical that change of mentality would be.
I haven't listened to hardly any other creators on youtube or anywhere else, I kinda stay in my own corner so have no idea if anyone else talks about it. I would imagine it isn't mentioned a lot about the colors, most other artists use big sets and probably don't narrow down the thought process on what it is exactly that they are doing when choosing colors. It really is a simple way to figure out the right color for the job without over complicating it. When I first started getting into teaching about drawing, I had to really think to put words into what it is I do because for the longest time I just did it without any thought, kinda like walking.
@@jessicamatheneyfineart As someone who DOES overcomplicate, I have found it much easier to put into words the things I DON'T do. Haha.

I have been following many different people while I learn to draw realistically. I love your teaching, but I gotta ask…how do you organize your colored pencils? I recently purchased 2 Robax colored pencil trays and can get my 100 Caran d’Ache, 120 Polychromos, 24 Derwent drawing, 120 Pablo’s, full set Derwent lightfast, And a couple dozen random specific pencils from Derwent studio and magic fly and Rembrandt so now that I can lay out all the colored pencils onto small foot prints and I can see all the colors. Should I organize them by colors all together? Do I put all the yellows from all the sets together and cool, and then warm and then going to oranges and reds? I don’t know.

Hey there! I just recently found your channel and love your artwork, I just have a question.
I have invested in a 60 set of polychromos and I want to draw some realistic dinosaurs (some have scaly skin and some have furr and feathers) I also invested in Strathmore 400 series toned paper, and canson xl watercolor paper.
So is a set of 60 polys a good choice for drawing animals? And is the toned paper and watercolor paper any good for the pencils?
Please answer as I can find no-one that will reply to me 😅
Polychromos are some of the best colored pencils to use for detailed work, as for paper, I've done some previous videos on paper and what's going to be the best choice.
