“The Pent Up Angler”. Hi! I’m happy to welcome you to my channel. Initially this was a simple idea to share a few fishing adventures with my elderly parents. Well, at least enough of you have enjoyed the action and have subscribed, so I have been motivated by you to make more videos and share as much information as I can.
I’m a long, lost Cajun from Lafayette, Louisiana. I moved away for Grad School at age 21 - thinking it would be two years & back home to Cajun land very quickly. Oops…life and work took me away for 30 years! I missed fishing every single day of those 30 years! I was a collegiate tennis coach and still love coaching and teaching, but now I’m so happy to be fishing & camping & exploring all of the beautiful nature in & around the coast of Louisiana & elsewhere. Hence the name of the channel.
First trout caught at age 51. Since then it’s been non-stop. Amen.
Thanks for watching & I hope you enjoy.

Great catches!
Thank you!! So much fun with those redfish. Anything over 20” is a great fight. Appreciate the comment! Cheers.
Dang man i was in Lake Martin Saturday, i must have just missed ya
@@CutDaOnions Hope you caught some! Regardless always so cool to be out there. I might try again this week despite the heat. Thanks for the message! Good luck ahead. Cheers!
What camping spot was this?
@@annfranklin1561 I believe this was spot 1 along the beach. They allow pretty flexible tent placement anywhere near the beach and close to the pavilions. No utilities. A lot has changed there since this video. They now have about 20 camper pads for full service camping with RV’s. Haven’t been yet, but can’t wait to go. It’s been popular. Great place! Hope you can get there and enjoy!
👍👍
Hey man you’re fishing my spot! For real though it’s so much fun to catch them on a little spinner- a lot of time i fish a little bitty grub with no spinner- watermelon red (yum brand). They can’t seem to resist it right in that same area.
Your spot produces some good ones!! I’m gonna try that small grub with no spinner. Some hot temps coming. Hope they will still be biting! Cheers!
Another great video ---- "THANKS"
Thank you!!! Very fun catching fish in that beautiful setting and always meeting nice people. Thanks for the view and comment. Cheers!
Beautiful lake
Never gets old!! So beautiful and full of nature.
Headed to Choupique Bayou in Oct and Nov. one of my favorite places. No boats and good fishing
Looking forward to getting back there as well. Such a good spot. Hope to see you out there. Good luck ahead! Cheers.
How do you steer the kayak? That was an awesome trip!🙏
@@1cleandude Thanks! The kayak has a little rudder steering handle on the left side. Trucker knob. Easy to maneuver and the rudder is solid in the back. And can keep the right hand on the rod and reel! Cheers!
You don't want to really hang your kayak that far over the edge of your truck bed. Told warping will happen.
Yep. Good advice. I was worried about that at the beginning. But the kayak is only 10’6” and is very thick. I also support it with a very thick pad on the tailgate that absorbs all stress and shock - and no movement. The pic is a little misleading - kayak is only about 3’ over the tailgate. Well over 50 trips and no issues. I think a slightly longer and less sturdy kayak would have issues. I’ll keep an eye on it. Cheers!
Did you happen to catch any bass at Reggio? I caught 2 or 3 the last few trips but have not figured out a pattern on targeting them. I caught them in same areas as redfish.
No bass! Thought for sure I would catch some. This day overall was slower than previous trips recently. I think too many storms. Still such an awesome area. And when I have caught bass down there, it’s been when I’m in the Schooner Canal and casting into the little cuts and ditches that go back into the ponds and marsh. Some of those little cuts are deeper and that’s where those bass sit. Seems also like further down the canal the better. But I’m still learning. Good luck and hope to cross paths again. Cheers!
Nice reds! Perfect day, that cloud cover kept the heat at bay. Really cool sight fishing on the way in also. Great video!
Thanks! Hadn’t been out there at dusk before. So good when everything calms down and you can detect it all on the water. Gotta get back there asap. So fun. Might try Henderson this week if water levels off and maybe starts dropping again. Good luck to you as well. Cheers.
The hooks on those spoons aren't the best either.
Yep. Once it was bent, I should have replaced. Love the smaller spoons, but they definitely need a beefier hook! All said, hope I hook into some hook benders like that again soon. Cheers!
100% agree on the drag setting. I like to say "Don't hoss him......"
Yep! I know better. Darn. For the sake of filming I was trying to make the fight shorter. Not smart. Especially considering nothing much more fun than fighting those things out with lighter gear and medium drag! Not gonna let that happen again!
Love the video! If you ever wanna rip some lips out here in Vermilion Parish let me know🤙
Thanks a lot! And yes, Vermillion Parish is closest to me and I’m always wanting to search and learn more. Much appreciated. I will send over a message. Hope to get down there before summer is over! Good luck and thanks again!
@ThePentUpAngler Yeah man, hit me up on Facebook. I'm always on the water.
What a dream! When nay bitin, im pulling out that beetle spin!
@@thomashood5973 Thsnks for the comment!! I’m still hoping to find them stacked up like that late through the summer. Hope you get out there and catch some as well. Cheers.
Hey bud great video!! Where were you in GI? Thanks
Thanks. There is a kayak launch site right in the middle of the Island on the bay side. It’s next to the Wildlife &Fisheries buildings off of Ludwig Lane. Perfect spot with plenty of space, parking and safe. Safe and easy to fish before sunrise or after sunset as well. Can fish those rocks right out in front and also some marsh and also cut across the bayou to some cool islands. All very close. Those big reds and Jack Crevalles come running through there late summer and early fall. So cool. You will see them blowing up on bait. Usually early in the morning but some days it will continue all day. Highly recommend. Just bring a little more than 12lb monofilament and be ready for a fight. First big Jack I caught took me 44 minutes! Hope you get to do it. Cheers!
Nice video buddy, I got a few last week myself buddy
Thank you!! Glad to hear it. This weather making it tricky to find times to get out there. Hope again soon! Cheers !
Beautiful setting.
Thank you for watching. Hope you enjoyed. And can check out the scenery from previous vids at Lake Martin! Even more picturesque. Cheers!
Crickets are hard enough to corral. Much less out of a ziplock bag....... 🤦♂
Ha! That was a disaster averted. I was pleasantly surprised that those crickets couldn’t crawl up and out of the bag. Those crickets are indeed always a bit of a pain in the a**! Cheers!
Storms held back enough to find a bunch of nice ones. Nice job improvising with the cricket bucket, guess its time for a new one. Enjoyed the vid!
Dodged the storms for about 4 hours. All solid size bream. Cricket bucket was about 100 years too old!! Haha. Thanks for the comment and for watching! Cheers and good luck ahead.
The Bream Slayer strikes again! Nothing beats that scenery in my opinion
Hello Jared! Thanks for watching. Could sit out there under those cypress trees and on that beautiful black water all day. Just a perfect break from the extremely enjoyable redfish and trout fishing. Can’t wait to do more of that as well soon. Great job at your end! Some big big trout on your last video! Good luck ahead. Cheers.
I heard they been doing good near the blvd in henderson
Yep these water levels and the heat push those fish right along the edge of the Boulevard. Just difficult navigating these days due to all of the vegetation that has been blown in by earlier storms. Cheers and thanks for watching!
So many beautiful sounds. Great catches! NEW SUBSCRIBER!
Thank you very much!! Appreciate the sub and the awesome comment. I’ve been a sub of yours for a while and enjoy your videos!! All the best ahead. Keep sharing!! Cheers.

Always want to kayak fishing this places , but I hear there big alligators so I’m kind of scared
The alligators will not approach you! Always smart to keep a little distance, but they have no interest in attacking. Almost always they spook and go away long before you get close. I really hope you will get out there and enjoy!! There’s just too much beautiful nature to see and enjoy. And PS… today in the brackish marsh fishing for redfish, I saw no less than 30 alligators. Some were within 10 feet of me. No concerns or issues. Fun to watch actually.
👏👏👏👏
What bait are u using , I was out there a week ago , nice place to fish
Crickets under a slip cork. Only about 1 foot under. Water about 3’ deep. In the past I tried only artificial - mainly small beetle spins - and didn’t catch very many.
Hey man Hunter from the boat launch. Nice vid🎣
Hey Hunter. Thanks a lot. Glad y’all seeing the vid. Hope all good out there. Will be back soon. Off to chase some redfish first. Take care. Thanks for the message.
Mark, I’m supposed to be mowing grass but I’m sitting here watching you arch back on bream. Can you come mow my grass while I finish watching?
Hahaha! You and me both. Mowing never stops. And yes, I’m still not at my quota of strong hook sets in life, so I will continue to treat those bream like 10 pound redfish!! Always such a feeling. Save some for me over at your place!
Great video! Good to see all those big Chinquapin out there. Btw I think that insect was a Mole Cricket, it kinda looks like one. Weird looking bug for sure.
Thanks!! Love those big chinquapin! So many out there. Will keep trying it. Not sure about those bugs. Sure is cool all the nature out there along with the fish and alligators! Cheers. Glad you got your cables fixed. Well done.
Beautiful place, thanks for the video
Thank you! Love that place. First few trips actually trying crickets instead of artificial. Going to keep going hopefully at least once per month and study what happens to the bite as the seasons change. Cheers.
Looks delicious. Fried to perfection.
It’s a very good, ‘bad’ habit!!! But too hard to resist. Cheers!
👍👍
Thanks!!
Looks like a great time
That was an awesome day. I’ve been back to that spot several times and no luck. Pretty sure the water needs to be about 10’ or lower at Pelba gauge for that area to load with fish. South Flats area of Henderson. Hoping to get out there again soon. Cheers.
👏👏👏👏
Thank you!
Great video buddy
Thank you!! Hope to get out there again soon. Cheers!
How long does it all take to set up?
Basic set up only takes about 25 to 30 minutes max. I add a few touches with the insulation and the big ice chest and adjust the kayak in the bed of the truck. 100% done easily in 45 minutes and I get the AC running as soon as possible to keep the inside setup cool. Some days better than others, but overall it’s not too bad and can actually be fun. Sure is awesome once all set up. So much more space than most people expect. I love it. Cheers!
So want to make a trip down and Yak for Reds. Let me know if interested in a collab.
Will do! Not sure when I’m going to have a good, long trip again. Definitely all Fall I hope and will message. Good luck ahead and nice videos at your end!
Great vid! Caught a few bream there this morning.
Awesome. Hope you got some of those big chinquapin as well. If not, good reason for another trip ahead! More from this end soon. Thanks for the comment. Cheers!
Can you send me the supplies and tools used. Great video by the way, thanks.
Check out the 5:30 to 7:20 mark on the video. All of the tools shown and explained. And the wood used is discussed throughout the video. Very few supplies. I re-used almost all of the original screws from the rails and brackets. Cheers and good luck!
Nice relaxing day out in lake Martin, with a good mixed bag, a little bit of everything. A good amount for a fish fry! Thanks for the video
Thanks a lot! Definitely a fun, relaxing day. Haven’t seen as many gators as in the past. But so much wildlife out there it’s awesome. And some good fish especially those chinquapin. Good luck ahead!!
How does Lake Martin compare to Henderson Lake for catching Bream?
I’d say Henderson better during the spawning months (May through August if lucky) and a better chance to catch larger numbers of bream. I’m learning Lake Martin with crickets for the first time, and fishing there more due to Henderson being so high water and choked with vegetation. Also Lake Martin so close and just incredible beauty all around. One thing for sure, the average size bream in Lake Martin has been BIG, and the bonus is you catch equal numbers of chinquapin and they are usually even larger. Very fun!!! Will learn more ahead and another Lake Martin video coming soon. Thanks for watching as always!
@@ThePentUpAngler Might try and get out there. Thanks!!
@@todd1808 Awesome hope you do! And enjoy!! I usually go to the right side of the lake into the trees down at the end of the lake. Good water movement and bite seems to be better there. That said, the left side of the lake (when exiting the launch) is so cool looking. More swampy. But less water movement and fish I find.
👏👏👏
If luan plywood isnt available near me would it be okay to use regular plywood and just coat it with something to help it not collect moisture?
Also, do the lift supports just screw right into the plywood or is there another part that they go into first?
Absolutely. Regular plywood actually probably stronger, but just slightly heavier than luan. I agree coating it is well worth your time. I didn’t even replace the thin fiberglass shell on the inside due to coating the boards and making them waterproof and looking good. Good luck!!! Happy camping ahead!
Awesome work my camper don’t need side work but awesome to know for the future
Thanks!! Happy camping!
My husband and I fished out of Coco Marina many times, and enjoyed every single trip.
Such a good place. They have really done a great job refurbishing it after Hurricane Ida. Some nice folks there. Hope you get to enjoy it again!! Cheers and thanks for the comment.
